Admittedly this is a biased review because I am very familiar with these folks. More importantly,…read moreI believe in their product. As a director at a university, I try to book these guys as much as I possibly can. This division of Monster, known as Making It Count Programs, hosts free presentations for high schools and colleges about educational and career opportunities. The presentations are all designed to give students success maps for surviving high school and college as well as managing their career options. The schools pay NOTHING for these presentations because the company gets sponsors for their programs. The high school programs are: Making Your College Search Count, Making College & Career Count, Ultimate Money Skills: College Funding, and Ultimate Money Skills: High School. The college programs are Monster College Advantage and Ultimate Money Skills: College, both of which we have hosted on my campus. The speakers are trained to deliver dynamic, engaging, and interactive presentations. The best thing is that the speakers are diverse and very much down-to-earth. Students, therefore, are entertained by and learn from people to whom they can relate. The presentations serve as terrific reinforcement of what schools teach or they help schools streamline valuable information within a 45-minutes span. MIC is a valuable additional voice for academics and careers. One of MIC's sister companies is FastWeb, which offers the largest free scholarship search on the web; and both are part of a collective called Monster College. So this group really offers students great opportunities to not only gain knowledge via the web but also to hear another voice deliver great information about what it takes to get from point A to point B (as they say in their high school senior program) in school and in life.

Crystal Clear Science - Another great end of year at St. Ignatius. 10 years in a row

As the teacher who runs the science festival, I work first hand with Crystal Clear. Michelle, the owner and the one who runs the program at the school, is the best! All I had to do was contact Michelle and she took care of everything! She gave me explicit directions on the set up that I needed for the big day and how many volunteers that I needed. Michelle came to the school the afternoon before and set everything up. The day of the science festival she gathers the entire school in one location and gets the kids pumped up with science terminology, experiments, and great rapport! She really gets the kids excited about science and the day they are about to have. She calls kids to the front and gets them involved in the learning. Then each grade comes back for 30-40 minutes to complete science rotations. Each rotation allows the kiddos to get hands on and explore science in a fun way. She keeps things organized by playing a chime to indicate that students need to rotate to the next rotation. At the end of the day, Michelle cleans up her stations. I would recommend this outreach to all as the kiddos not only learned but had a blast!

I stumbled upon Granny's Garden school through a Yelp service event we were doing and instantly…read morefell in love. Now Granny's Garden school is actually part of Loveland Elementary school. We looked and looked and could not find it because the place itself does not exist. Granny herself runs this nonprofit as more of an educational giving back kind of initiative. As we were moving piles of mulch to the garden beds we met her in person and wow what a special person! She explained to all of us the history of how she got started and it was basically to teach children early about how to eat healthy and that healthy eating can be fun, and delicious! She also said that each classroom of the school has a plot that they are responsible for growing during the season. The class then harvests the plants and they are used for the school's lunches!!! How cool is that? We had processed patties of who knows what slopped on our trays. She even said that kids will eat raw veggies right out of the garden. And when I say raw, some of the kids just take bites out of tomatoes and eat them whole! What a great cause. I would have never even known about this place, but if you are looking to volunteer or just have fun giving back this is a great great place. There were even some high school kids earning class credit on the day we went.
