We had dinner here tonight because I had heard it was really good. I beg to differ. I looked at the Yelp reviews and decided on the stuffed Avacado before we went. Was disappointed to find out that I could only get it on Mondays. It's Thursday. I settled on the fajitas combo. Soooo disappointed. They had no flavor whatsoever. Ordered guacamole on the side and it had no flavor either. I'll give it 2 stars because our server, Andrew did a good job. If you are looking for a bland, tasteless Mexican meal, head here. Chuy's catered our wedding this past weekend and WOW. Danny , the manager made our experience absolutely amazing. The catering staff was very presentable and respectful, on time, and brought all of the supplies we needed for dinner, serving and cake cutting. The guests would not stop raving about how good our nacho bar and tacos were. They were very affordable and were really a pleasure to work with. It's obviously Americanized Mexican food and the prices are more than your local mom and pop but they are still really good. They have a great selection of margaritas; I just tried a pink grapefruit one I love. They also have a variety of salsas and tres leche cake for dessert. read more

I have not been here in some time but we have eaten here several times in the last few weeks to make up. My co-workers order takeout weekly so thought I'd give it a try. Happy hour 4-7 with a free taco bar, The chips are fresh and the salsa has a fresh made spicy flavor. The Mexi-cob salad is a favorite with chicken, green chiles, cheese, avocados and the Creamy Jalapeno Ranch DIp. That dip would go good on anything here. I should hate this place. It is the exact type of restaurant I despise: one filled with ridiculous, over-the-top decor meant to amuse and distract families and crowds with its carnival-like atmosphere. A restaurant where parents bring their 50 screaming children and just let them scream. A chain that focuses on theme first and food never. But wait, what is this? Tortillas being made fresh right in front of me? Light as air tortilla chips with chunky guac? Delicious food? What??? Yeah, as soon as I had my first bite of the macho burrito filled with house-roasted pork and rolled in one of those fresh tortillas, I forgot about everything else. Seriously, this burrito could have been served in a high-end Mexican restaurant (yes, those exist, just not in KY) and I wouldn't have batted an eye. And because we were in a cartoon of a restaurant, I ordered a frozen blackberry margarita and it was good too. It even had some booze in it. I am going to have to come back here. I had never seen a Chuy's before, so I was skeptical of how good it was going to be. They had pretty good old school rock playing and the interior was crazily decorated. There were too many people on the floor because the restaurant is new I guess. People milling about chatting offering chips and soft drink refills. We've been here several times and honestly, I'm surprised I haven't reviewed them yet. So, here goes. We went on Sunday afternoon and were seated promptly. Staff was very friendly. We placed our orders - I chose the Combo Fajitas (one of my favorite choices here), my wife ordered the pork tacos (one of the weekend specials). Our orders were out in record time... We only managed to eat 1/2 basket of chips! And with the creamy jalapeño dip flowing, that's really saying something. Her pork tacos features slow-roasted juicy shredded pork dressed traditionally with onions and cilantro, wrapped in warm freshly-made tortillas. Beans and rice on the side looked good, but the tacos were so filling she wasn't able to even touch them. My combo fajitas were huge and delicious. I particularly enjoy the side-bowl of rice and beans along with the cauldron of toppings (pico, sour cream, lettuce, cheese, etc). The tortillas of course were also fresh and still warm. After sitting down for 5 minutes, he came back to get our order. We weren't ready. He maybe gave us another 5 minutes. We ordered tacos and chuychanga. The food came out very quickly. The server would check on us every 10-15min. We stayed about 30 minutes after we paid the bill. He didn't come back after he got payment. Didn't bother coming to see if we needed refills on our drinks. We felt like we were being rushed out of the restaurant. Other servers around us seemed more adequate with their guests. The chips are warm, the salsa hot, and the creamy jalapeño dip is my favorite part of any visit. My future mother-in-law loves Chuy's, so I have come here several times since my last review and had great experiences. I think the visit I had on my last review might have been a fluke. I'd like to start off this review with the declaration that I'm not a fan of Tex-Mex. Growing up in Los Angeles, I'm used to and prefer the taste of a Baja-, Michoacan-, Sonoran-, and SoCal-style Mexican food. That being said, Chuy's ain't bad. I've tried Tex-Mex many times over the years, having spent a couple years in the DFW area for college, and really don't prefer it. Too much cheese sauce (kay-so) for me and not enough flavor for me (chili, spice, etc.) My first exposure to Chuy's came from a trip to this location with my in-laws. I've been back multiple times with them and also with my wife. Here's what I appreciate about Chuy's: The chips and salsa are excellent. Great flavor, fresh and constantly being brought to our table. The tortillas - homemade and very good. Here's what I don't care for: Most items on the menu are Tex-Mex options. They do offer items that are not Tex-Mex, but they are limited. I end up ordered something and don't realize it is bathed in cheese sauce and muscle my way through it. That being said, Chuy's is decent food if you have to go for Tex-Mex. Maybe even more than decent, but I must admit that I am biased. LOL read more

The only redeeming quality of my visit is that my server, Stephen/Steven, was a very attentive (but not overly attentive). First time back in years, I sit and drank for a couple hours, I tip 20% on a to-go order because, again, my server was ideal, yet Chuy's forgot the tortillas on my fajitas order (which was only one order of fajitas by the way). Amateurish; I will never go back considering all the options for food in this town. Lastly, the menu has what feels to be 3-5 options max but that's more than likely COVID striking again. Positives: Can you say FAJITAS!! Comes out sizzling every time and honestly a serving for one has served my husband and I two times over. The steak fajitas are my fav, the meat is so tender and flavorful. I'm a fan of spicy (like crazy insane spicy) and while the hatch chile sauce isn't melt-your-face-off spicy, it's pretty darn delicious. The salsa is super citrusy with a strong cilantro taste (sorry to all those cilantro haters, you all are missing out) and the chips are thin, salty and crisp. Pair this all with a Dos Equis and you are in Mexican food heaven. Side note: If you really want to experience heaven on earth, have their Tres Leche cake. It's a huge portion usually can feed 3-4. So moist it's almost like drinking the cake! The caramel drizzle and pool of cream sauce on the bottom is beyond decadent. Not a fan of the strawberries on top but I'm weird so don't let that deter you from this gem. Negatives: The wait can get out of control on the weekends, although it's well worth it. I'm seriously trying very hard to think of more to say for this section but drawing a blank because.......IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!! The Vibe: From the cool portraits on the walls to the ladies making fresh tortillas, this place is an oasis for Mexican food lovers in Lexington. We just moved here from out of state and was so excited to see a Chuy's. However, I think this is possibly the worst Chuy's that I have ever been in. 50% of the tables were covered with dirty dishes and had not been bussed; The management was hanging out at the front check-in counter with the host and hostess laughing and cutting up; the wait staff was back in the bar area chatting and flirting with each other; and the women's restroom was filthy. When the hostess seated us, she did not say one word to us, but walked towards the table and threw the menus on the table and walked back to the front hostess stand. The food was mediocre - had to ask for non-greasy un-soggy chips twice - and the stacked enchilada's chicken was so dry I almost choked on it. Management, please do your job. I saw the reviews for Chuy's so I had to give it a shot. I was not disappointed! The decor and atmosphere offers a "fun" vibe. My server explained many of the menu Items I asked about. The salsa was outstanding (it had a little kick to it). The server informed me that their salsa and sauces are made daily from fresh ingredients. I could definitely "taste the freshness". I ordered the guisada tacos and got my food with little wait. The tacos were amazing and the amount of food was beyond my capacity. All in all, it was a great dining experience. OK, so I am writing this review after eating that Chuy's only once, but my first impression with the restaurant was not impressive. I had several friends and family members eat there before I tried it and they told me it was an excellent place to eat. So on my first visit I could not decided on what to eat and wound up ordering the Elvis Presley Memorial Combo. If you know me, you know I love food and have no problem eating (it shows too), but I struggled to finish eating. Portions are generous, chips and salsa are really good, but the food to me was lackluster. It was kind of a letdown. Maybe Tex-Mex is not my forte, I love Mexican food, but Chuy's just didn't do it for me. Now would I be willing to eat there again: probably. Amazing experience after my initial thought of the restaurant was an under expectation. Had seen many of these in California, but never went to them because two of my favorite Mexican restaurants that my parents would only go to were El Torito and Baha Fresh. The atmosphere was great with music and a place to sit with television to watch football games/news. The food was fantastic and the timely refills of chips and salsa is amazing. You can tell a restaurant puts its best foot forward when they try to give you something out of courtesy while waiting for your original entree. Waiter was very friendly always calling my friend and I "amigo". Generally, it had taken away any unsure thoughts I had. Never judge a book by its cover or never think a place cannot be good if you have never been there yourself. Finally, the last thing that I use to grade restaurant criteria on is the price of the entree vs. portion ratio. Big portions at a very cheap price = awesomeness. read more

This is our favorite restaurant in Lexington. We go almost every week! Chuy's margaritas are hands down my favorite margaritas from any restaurant. Period. They'll even bring you samples if you want to try different kinds! The second thing you'll learn is that you can order Boom Boom sauce on just about everything and will want to as soon as you taste it. And I can't post a review without mentioning their creamy jalapeño sauce. This stuff is amazing. If I could order it in gallon form I would. I should say that it's not for everyone. My fiancé prefers to dip her chips in their amazing queso, however I should warn that it does cost extra. The last thing is the service. I have never had a bad experience at Chuy's. Even when they're packed. The staff is always friendly and fast and very down to earth. We're even having our rehearsal dinner for our wedding there!! We had a poor experience yesterday at Chuy's in Hamburg and I wanted to share with the group. I met my girlfriend for lunch, as we are huge fans of Chuy's and have been since they opened the first location off Nicholasville road. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress with hot chips, homemade salsa as well as the creamy jalapeño dipping sauce. After eating about half the salsa we notice some unidentifiable items in the salsa. Upon further investigation, it turned out there were two large pieces of cardboard in our salsa bowl (pictured). When the waitress came back by I asked to see the manager, as our salsa (and likely most other's salsa) was contaminated. She apologized and took the bowl and immediately returned with another bowl and stated that she went ahead and dumped out that pan of salsa. No one ever removed anyone else's salsa and we never got a visit from the manager, although she was right beside the bar sampling each of the frozen margaritas. We had two burritos, one ice water and one Diet Coke and our total was $35. We barely ate any of our food as I was pretty grossed out and upset by the end of our meal because we never got a visit or even a glance from the manager. I would like to clarify that I waited tables and worked in the food industry for most of my younger life and in no way blame the waitress. We used to love this place and visited weekly for months. The free nacho bar on weeknights was a nice benefit. We noticed many of the familiar faces were leaving, and service quality dropped. The final straw for us was raw chicken. We stopped one Saturday evening and ordered the fajitas for two, combo chicken and steak. After an excessively long wait our food finally arrived. I quickly made a steak fajita. Luckily my wife stopped before I took a bite. The chicken was barely cooked on the outside, and it was completely raw in the middle. Did they use the same knife to cut the chicken, steak and veggies? Not a risk I was willing to take. We didn't have any more time to invest in our dinner that evening, so we told the server to just take it back. He sent the manager over who made like she was doing us a huge favor by not charging us for the contaminated food we didn't eat. She recognized us as regulars, and said we should know they usually do better. Needless to say, that was the last time we went to Chuy's. read more
