My wife and I stopped here for lunch Saturday 04/11 just before noon and it was a lovely day so we sat on the patio outside. We have been to this chuys many times and always had good experiences, that is until this visit. We were seated quickly and noticed multiple carpenter bees enjoying the wood structure. They didn't bother us but unsettling anyway. We were there about 8-10 minutes when a waiter headed our way unfortunately he went to the table next to us which arrived about 3 minutes after us. He had chips for 2 tables so we received ours after he left their table, we'll take that as a win. We ordered our drinks and also our lunch while we had him at the table. Our food came out quickly and as always very good. We did request when the food came out to please bring more napkins and salsa. That was the last time anyone came to our table, no napkins no salsa no drink refills and then we sat 10 minutes after our lunch waiting for a check. Finally I went inside and told the hostess we sitting out there waiting for a check for 10 minutes and the service was horrible. Instead of an apology her answer was yes there is only one server out there. Well you know what, stop seating people outside if you don't have the servers to accommodate your guest. In summary the food is always good but the service was unacceptable and with so many dining options available in the area we will be expanding our dining options in the future. read more

I am disappointed to learn Chuy's discontinued their chili relleno. They prepared it in a very unique way. It was fried in a very crispy and crunchy breading. I hope they will bring it back. They still have a variety of tasty dishes including fajitas, enchiladas, burritos, and flautas. Also, they have a large variety of top quality sauces. Our table ordered beef fajitas for one, a combination plate that included flautas and quesadillas, a salad with chicken, and a giant steak burrito with hatch green chili sauce. My husband and I split the burrito. It was so huge that there's no way either of us could eat a whole burrito by ourselves . Everyone else at the table took home at least half their order, but Dan and I don't like leftovers. Loved that hatch green chili sauce. I am intrigued with their happy hour ad. It's 3 to 5 and includes several $5 dips, beer, margaritas, and a Big Texas Tini. Floaters are $1. I can't wait to check that out. read more

We had a group of 8 adults and 1 child. The waitress really kept our drinks full and she kept track of all of our orders. The food, as always, was excellent. I love their salsa and chips. Chuy's is a restaurant that is always great, no matter what part of the country you eat at. I got the Steak Burrito with the with the Hatch Chili Hot Sauce on the side. I wasn't sure if I would like the flavor of the hot sauce. And while there was some definite heat to the sauce, it was still extremely flavorful for a green sauce. Maybe I'm just new to Tex-Mex but it sure didn't seem authentic to me. Never seen tortilla chips with ranch dressing and the boom boom sauce was quite bland and believe it's one of their favorites. I know it's just a chain, but I would definitely recommend a different place for Tex-Mex cuisine. Chicken Was dry in big chunks and tasted like it had been pre-baked hours or days prior. I thought I had reviewed this location years ago when it first opened, but I guess not. I haven't gone back because, well, although it has some good qualities, it's limited menu doesn't contain several favs I have at Mexican restaurants (best example- molcajete). I first went to Chuy's in Texas (where I'm from). Fun vibes, some good features (the salsa and the other cream sauce served with complimentary chips are both good). I do love their basic cheese enchiladas....it's not something I'd even order elsewhere, but they are such classic examples of the basic cheese enchiladas I knew growing up. There are just too many other good Mexican restaurants around (including basically across the street) to find much reason to come here. Three stars; it's OK and no problem with it; if friends ever suggested we go there Id agree readily. But I think those friends might be those that don't really eat much Mexican food or don't know the variety of dishes available at some other places. read more

Yesterday was the last day of their seasonal chili rellenos specials and am I ever glad we got the chance to try them. It was the best I've ever had! I'm not a big fan of the typical tempura-style batter, so their version using Panko breadcrumbs is my new fave. My group and I waited about an hour to get seated to a table with no reservation. Mind you it was Cinco De Mayo so wait times were to be expected. The food overall was standard to what you would normally get in a dining Mexican restaurant. The service was good as our server was attentive and ensure my water cup was always full. Parking is easy as the restaurant is near an establishment of other businesses and the parking g lot is quite large. Went to Chuy's with some friends. I am still sad they don't have the whole menu/are still using a limited menu due to COVID and they still don't have the trunk with free queso. My go to 2 favorite things to get are the old Wednesday special: the stuffed avocado and then shrimp chilie relleno but those are both gone. Nothing else is as good as those two items. I got a steak burrito and it was okay. I would give them 5 stars if they brought back my favorites and the queso trunk! For now it's just ok. We're a mixed race couple. The waitress on the floor refused to serve our booth so the bartender had to come over and serve us instead. The waitress however, continued to serve EVERYONE ELSE and passed by our booth several times without ever acknowledging us. We feel like we have time traveled back to the days of great customer service and family friendly atmospheres. Allie was an outstanding waitress and took care of our kids as her own. Her husband also brought us our food and ever so tactfully asked us if he could bring our kids ice cream without them knowing what he was talking about. We have eaten here several times and I must say this was the worst experience we have had. The service itself was very good, but the food left a lot to be desired. Let's start with the drinks. We ordered a virgin daiquiri for our little one and when it came out it tasted so bitter that neither she or myself could drink it. Our server was very accommodating and took it back. For the food, the little one just wanted fries and they came out crispy, but cold. I ordered the Elvis combo which was the first time I have tried it. BIG MISTAKE. The Tex Mex sauce tasted burnt on the ground beef enchilada in addition to the beef being old, the chicken on the chicken enchilada had Zero taste, plus there was less than a quarter of the tortilla with chicken on it. The cheese enchilada also had zero taste and there was less than a quarter of this tortilla filled with cheese. The upside was the wife's taco was good and the service along with the queso dip were really good. I'm not sure if the manager of this establishment is trying to save on their food cost, but only filling the tortillas a quarter or less full is absolutely intentional. It's been years since we've gone to Chuy's and I honestly don't know why. Evan our server was great! He was super attentive. Food was hot, very flavorful, and the portions are plenty. The group I was had fajitas, tortilla soup, boom boom enchiladas and a fajita chicken burrito with boom sauce. The kids had a burger and chicken tenders (they have great kids options). They bring you their creamy jalapeño dip and salsa with chips to start off. I personally love the vibe of Chuy's, bright colors, good music, and lots of cool decor. This Chuy's is sorry. They never have Chicken Tenders. They didn't serve Chicken Tenders for like a year during Covid. Now they are running out of them again. I went here on Tuesday February 4th 2025 at ordered Chicken Tenders and Fries. Waiter comes to me and tells me they are out. I gave them a warning and just ate fries. There fries aren't the best. Today is Tuesday April 1st 2025. BRAND NEW DAY that hasn't came on Tuesday since 2014. Same thing happens. I held a grudge on them for a month. Finally making it back on April 1st and ordered chicken tenders and fries and the waitress comes to me and says " Alright so unfortunately we are out of chicken tenders " this time I just left. 2nd time in a row. Walking in, it feels like you've found a whole in the wall place, but you're in the middle of a popular shopping center. Gives me old dive bar vibes - very unique! On to the food! The menu has all the basics that you'd expect from a Southwestern restaurant. Being Mexican, I don't know that I'd call this a fully Mexican restaurant. Nonetheless, all their basics - rice, beans, tortillas, meats - are spot on! The beans are amazing. The texture is soft and they're rich in flavor. The green chile sauces are also great and pretty authentic to New Mexico. The tortillas used for the chimichanga and nachos are definitely homemade and made very well. Food - 5/5: better than great! Insanely busy place. Please please please try and give them the time they need. The poor bartender which was my server was just at her wits end trying to serve everyone, keep up with drink orders, AND help with the huge amount of take out orders. The bartender told me that their take out orders are as much or sometimes more than their dine in. Which must be insane considering how crazy busy their dine in always is! I normally LOVE going to chuys. It's one of my favorite places to eat in Knoxville. Tonight was the worst experience I've ever had here. First, the hostess asked how many and we said 3, me, my husband, and my little girl. She asked if a booth was ok, which is normally a great idea because our little girl is too big for high chairs but too little to stay seated in a chair for a whole meal. We got seated in a two person booth, so there wasn't really any room for our kid to sit with one of us, so we tried a high chair but that ended up not working. We squeezed together and made the best of it. Then after 10 minutes of sitting there my child was hungry and there was no "hello" or any chips or drinks so I looked around trying to decide which waitress or waiter was ours. When she finally came up we ordered our drinks and she tried sprinting away, and my husband politely asks if we could get chips and the jalapeño dip. She basically rolls her eyes and says "yeah I was going to get that I just haven't a chance". We waited another 10 mins and finally got drinks and chips. Then we ordered our food. The food came out sooner than the drinks and chips did, but we ran out of chips while waiting and drinks. They bring out the food and I glance at my plate and there's this green chile rice....my face is clearly disgusted but the man who brought the food just quickly walks away without asking if everything looked alright or if we needed anything like sauce. Then the waitress comes by and asks how everything is and I ask for a refill on drinks and chips, then ask why we got this green rice..she answers that she just heard someone say that they ran out of Mexican rice. Well wouldn't that be nice to know, I normally mainly eat the rice and chips. If they had told us and gave us a choice of what to do I wouldn't have ordered what I did because I tried something new and hated it and had nothing to eat except chips (which at this point we are still out of). Then she bring a refill and more chips and she says "these are the last chips by the way". Now, this was about 30 mins til close. I understand everyone wants to go home, I do too after barely eating here tonight. It's not like we showed up 10 minutes til close and expected 3 full meals and to stay for hours and hours. We arrived over an hour before close and were hardly taken care of, the food ran out by the time we got any service, and no one alerted us about it. Then, no one offered to comp the meal or anything. She did offer more beans, but I don't like their beans. When she took my plate (after I already told her I won't be eating anything on my plate) she said "are you going to continue poking around on your plate?" No mam. I will not. We still left about 20 til close, so maybe staff need to slow down and actually take care of their customers before closing the store before it's even time to close. It's actually crazy how much waiting we had to do when they are quickly trying to close the store with people still inside.
