Well this all started with a bit of a dilemma here, our favourite curry provider in northfield…read morehappens to be take away only so we thought we'd venture onto the high street and try Omar's after receiving a pretty good takeaway from them previously. Why did we wait so long? The decor insode is flush with blue and purple soft lighting and drapes, the waiters were very polite and straight on hand to help with your every need. The menu, well, we'd promised it was a quick bite but starters, mains sides and a forced down desert argued with that one (doggie bags for the left over mains were a life saver!). A range of unusual chefs specials suitable for both veggies and meat eaters alongside the standard brummie curry choices (dopiaza, rogan josh, tikka, bhuna etc...) meant we needed an extra 10 minutes to narrow it down from one of everything on the menu to what we actually wanted! As a sample menu example my choices consisted of: poppadums with mango chutney, mint yoghurt, lime pickle and tomato chilli mixed tikka starter for one Keema meatball curry with extra green chillies (just wow!) garlic pilau rice cheese and chilli naan and a pistachio kulfi to finish (only because we could, there was no room left at this point!) Cobra and Tiger beers were readily available alongside a small selection of spirits. A repeat trip may well be needed to sample the mango lassi here (I'm sure there will be no complaints if the rest of the experience is as good as this vist was)

Birmingham is one of the two capitals of Indian food in England (the other one being Bradford). It…read moreis home to Balti dishes, and Balti houses abound all over the city. With so many great-tasting and reasonably-priced Indian food options around, it is quite impressive that a higher end, pricier Indian restaurant like Pushkar has established a loyal clientele. Pushkar sets itself apart from other Indian restaurants in the area due to its upscale setting, the high quality of its food ingredients, and especially its creative dessert offerings. My first dining experience at Pushkar was purely by chance. I was staying near Brindley Place, and happened to be walking past the restaurant, when I decided to stop and check out the menu. The duck masala sounded interesting, so I decided to try it, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The thick tomato-based curry had a fantastic flavor profile that consisted of garlic, ginger, black pepper and red chilies. It paired well with basmati rice and a side of raita. Since my first visit, I have dined at Pushkar a few more times, and have always enjoyed everything I have tried. The murgh korma stands out as a rich, creamy, nutty curry dish that is perfect for you if you are in the mood for something less spicy. The innovative desserts at Pushkar are a major draw for me. The gajar ka halwa tart with pistachio ice cream is my personal favorite. The garam masala brulee sounded interesting, but didn't taste too different from regular crème brulee; the garam masala in it was really only a hint of cinnamon. It still was pretty tasty. The chocomosa is a filo samosa filled with chocolate and roast almonds, and is served with a scoop of cappuccino ice cream. Why had nobody else ever thought of creating a chocolate samosa, and if they did, why had I never eaten one before? Friends, if you find yourselves in Brummy, you must treat yourselves to a meal at Pushkar. It is truly deserving of all of the awards that have been bestowed upon it, including the 2015 British Curry Award, the 2015 Best of Broad Street Award, and the 2015 English Curry Award.

Rocky was our server and was excellent. I was a bit miffed that they didn't have any Rieslings or wines that pair well with Indian Food. Jivan's is the bomb…read more I spent much of my college years partying in this horrible town and I never once thought to visit this place. Then one of my good friends in my later years promised me this would be a great place for a curry. So initial thoughts is it definitely looks outdated outside and in but surprisingly it is not all that uncomfortable with the old wooden decor. I will admit in around 20 visits here I have only ever order the one dish and that is the minced lamb curry with naan, it is that good! It is a family run restaurant and they are very awesome folk who work here. I have only ever been during the week so not sure what the weekend rush is like.

Great tasting curry and a good portion served in a balti dish. Their chicken tikka sizzler starter dish is great too (£8.00 but can serve 3/4). Take-away also available. Look on the W/ton council website for the environmental health scores on the doors and Jivans scores one of the highest (4 stars) in the town for excellent food standards and kitchen hygiene. Better score than places that charge twice as much! Its only a small place with formica tables, so its not the sort of place for a special meal, there are far more swankier places to visit - but for a quick curry in a hurry after a real ale session, or a curry before the theatre this place can't be beaten. Great food, good portions, great prices - my favourite place.

The restaurant itself is on the Hagley Road just a little bit up from Five Ways in a large white building. You walk in and are instantly hit by the grandeur of the place with marble, statues and artwork all over the restaurant and reception areas. We needed to wait for a table so were given a buzzer and were invited to take a seat at the bar. We were quickly seated and shown the food menus after about 10 minutes.....when you don't ave a reservation I think thats pretty good! The food is very much what you would expect from a curry house with a huge list of classic curry dishes and starters. We went for popadoms and dips to start....I then went for chicken pakora and shish kebabs as my main.....I had already eaten before I left the house so was just being greedy at this point....this was my attempt at having something healthier haha. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious and the prices were really reasonable! Both starters were only around £3.50 a plate and were a good size portion! I was going to be super harsh and give this place four stars due to a slightly dirty menu and the fact the tables are pretty close together but can you really mark somewhere down for being busy and popular? The staff here cannot do enough for you and I think its a great touch that the chefs bring out the food! If you want a curry....at a reasonable price.....in an interesting setting...why not give this place a go.
