Your kids could be out for a week or a month, as long as he gets his monthly membership fee you'll never hear a peep. " Hey is your kid ok? Haven't seen them in a while.?"... Nope. Classes are chaotic and undisciplined. Says "he's not there to discipline but to teach jiu jitsu". I call bullsh*t! As a teacher and coach you ARE supposed to discipline students or players that are being disruptive or not doing what their supposed to or not showing good sportsmanship. With regard to coaching, he is completely disorganized in that new students are not taught basics and fundamentals effectively before being other techniques, ie trying to build a house without paying a foundation. One would think or hope that a coach and school would care more about it's students, especial when we brought more people and families to train there. But I guess as long as they are paying their monthly fees that's all that matters. Our previous coach in Los Angeles cared and provided continued discipline with high expectations of students and parents. Miss a session you'd have a call or text to see if things were ok. If someone was late or disrespectful, push up, sit ups, drills. Our girls knew to work hard and that their coach cared about them beyond just jiu jitsu. They trained hard for him because they grew to care and love the sport... Because he cared! That is lost with "coach" Jerome. Save your money! Find a different studio.

This happened a couple years ago, so I can't speak to how things are handled there now. But I had a…read morenegative experience trying to contact the Westchase flagship location about a serious concern connected to my experience at another affiliated location. The concern involved safety, conduct, and how issues involving staff or members were being handled. I made four separate calls to four different people, was unable to get a hold of anyone, left my callback information, and explained generally that I was trying to raise a serious concern that I believed warranted awareness or oversight. I did not receive a callback or meaningful follow-up. I am not reviewing any one person individually. My concern is that I attempted to raise a serious issue through multiple channels connected to the flagship location and was met with silence. With time, what stands out to me most is not only the original situation, but the lack of meaningful follow-up when I tried to raise it through what I understood to be appropriate channels. That kind of non-response leaves things unresolved. It also leaves the person who raised the concern carrying the consequences alone. In a martial arts environment, especially one involving physical training and close contact, trust and safety depend not only on what happens on the mat, but also on whether concerns can be raised and handled responsibly. From my experience at the time, I did not feel there was a reliable process for escalation, accountability, or member support.

Girls excel at this sport and actually out-perform boys until they are at least 10 years old. Start them at 6, and maybe add some muy thai or boxing etc at 9 or 10 too. Do not try to coach. Do not offer advice. Support without opinions, and maybe try it out yourself. Sit back and watch the magic happen... it will. Don't care if it actually helps in a self defense situation? Want your kid to be a pretend martial arts master? Become a "black belt" after 5 or 6 years? If that is the goal, you can get your kid into karate or tae kwon do or kung fu or whatever... Just make sure they don't try to use it in a fight with someone who can actually fight. And do not expect them to get the same lessons in humility and respect that they will learn first hand in bjj. Head instructor was technical and broke things down well . The sense of humor and banter here made me feel very comfortable. The also have Muay Thai.
