This is one of my favorite restaurants...ever :)…read more The thing I particularly loved (and I think they're famous for) was the Kasesuppe, or beer soup. It was so rich and flavorful and cheesy and delicious..unlike anything I've ever tried before or since. It's hard to describe exactly what it's like (since it's different from any other soup I've tried) but suffice it to say we both (my boyfriend and I) absolutely loved it. This was on a road trip my bf and I took to Portsmouth btw, and I want to come back to the city just to go to this restaurant again! :) We also got a Croque Reuben (sandwich for me, large portion), Pork Belly (for him), Manniere Moules et Frites (mussels dish - Classic moules with garlic butter, white wine and parsley, served with toasted sourdough), Brugse Zot Sport (beer for him), Kwak (Kwak amber beer, cream, orange and fennel for me) and Orangina. The main dishes of pork belly (Pork belly slowly roasted in Lindemans Apple beer, served with Stoemp and seasonal vegetables, finished with apple beer and mustard reduction) and Reuben sandwich (Grilled sourdough sandwich with Gruyère and Cheddar, sliced pastrami, sauerkraut, gherkins, Emmental and Russian dressing) tasted great, and portions were really generous! Staff were friendly also and it was just a great time :))

"Hoe gaat het?"…read more You'd be forgiven for thinking that a question like this would be greeted by a fond response in a Belgian bar, but, alas not. The Good: The beer is authentically Belgian/Dutch. The nibbles too. The bar staff are friendly. The couches are comfy. The Bad: The bar is a little bit Disneyland Antwerp. The staff aren't equipped with any Dutch. The French radio piped in is very annoying after an hour or so. The Ugly: There is a God awful high-pitched whine when the beer is being poured from tap. So if you're Dutch or Vlaams and you're missing some home comforts stop in, bud don't expect this be become a home away from home.

Lin's Thai Cafe is a diner style authentic Thai restaurant that serves traditional english…read morefavorites (chippy and bangers). Stumbled here on a Sunday afternoon after finding Tang's (to be reviewed soon) was closed until dinner hours. Quick summary: Food: Thai - 4 out of 5 for authenticity and flavor. English breakfasts and chippy meet the standard and is offered to cater to the less adventurous. Of the 4 dishes we tried, the Pad Thai stood out as the dish of the day, made with the right balance of tamarind and garlic; we ordered two portions to start and an additional third after my family devoured the first two. Springs rolls were crunchy, even with the chili sauce it was served with. Ambiance: Simple diner style. Ask to prop the door open for ventilation. Although I don't mind, coriander, garlic and curry can be sometimes overwhelming. This place does not have a liquor license, but it is BYOB so hop on two doors down and pick up a Hoegarden Heff to tame the spice. Customer Service: A bit of a language barrier, so keep your special orders to yourself. I requested to add beef to a particular menu choice and ended up with a completely separate beef dish. Price is fair - for a family of six we all left very satisfied for a mere 40 quid.

Was stuck in an assignment in southern UK and found this place 2 days before we had to fly out…read morewhich was early last year (2010). Picked 3-course menu. Can't remember exactly mini starters we had which were served in sequence but they were delightful to our palates. Similarly with their desserts. As entree, I picked duck and my co-worker pork belly. The duck was juicy, tasty and tender. Just right. The pork belly was basically a block of fat. It was out of this world amazing. Served with a piece of fruity jelly (peach?) which sourness gave a very nice contrast to the pork belly. Easily the best dish I ever had. It was sooooo good, we came back on our last night there to get the 24-Hour Pork Belly again. This time I gotta have my own. We chat with the chef and he gave the recipe to my co-worker. Told us that pork belly is not a common French dish and probably something he was experimenting with. He was very friendly and service was great. I noticed that they change their menu and didn't see the 24-Hour Pork Belly anymore. This place is still 5 stars to me without it and 6 stars with it.

I took her here for her birthday and our anniversary and it was perfect. The manager gave us some excellent advice on wine and the food was all incredibly well done. It doesn't look like much from the outside but I was so happy I chose this place. Pretty reasonable price for the quality of food and service.
