So far my experience with this school has been positive all the way around…read more My son loves it here. He's made so many new friends. When it's the weekend, he tells me he can't wait to go back! I mean, who says that if coming here is really so terrible? His grades can be better however; and the after school tutoring has been of great help. And if this school is "ghetto", you must be walking around with your eyes closed because this is one of the nicest neighborhoods I have ever seen. If the previous reviewers are talking about the other students, on the other hand, well, I can't make any judgments on them. Yes, parking when dropping off and picking up can get crowded and frustrating, but I find that if you can arrive a bit earlier than most, it won't be that bad.

Only teacher that was helping was Mr Godwin but eventually I got taken out of the school. And before winter break the principal was supposed to call to enroll me back in and he never called so we have to call him after the break so i could get in rolled not to me too. The P.E teacher didn't care I was about to pass out i to,d him I needed a break he didn't care. So I don't recommend this school and the office has a bad attitude. Don't recommend

Currently my child is struggling in school. I have not always liked how some teachers and…read moreadministrators can be at schools. This school so far has been exceptional in how they are taking care of business for my child. There is no sugar coating of the situation, the teachers are hands on in helping my child and I get through this tough time and I feel blessed to have them as my village helping me right now. I think that Anna Pedroza, who is the current Principal is amazing as a leader to her teachers, her students and their parents. She is to be commended for her job as being in "charge" of so many students and faculty must be a hard job and she works her job to the core taking care of it all. Thank you Rancho Del Rey Middle School for helping my child out in her time of need for her education.

(forgive me for any writing mistakes. either way, my point stands.)

Like with every other of my school reviews, I am reviewing this as a substitute teacher, not as a…read morestudent or a former student. A little over a year ago I began my search for a school t do my student teaching at. When I was assigned to Hilltop, many people told me that I scored. Truly, this was a good school to do my teaching. Now, even with my students graduated and moved on to high schools, I love coming back. The students here have a real respect for their school and are happy to be here. The campus is clean, the students are nice and the teachers respect substitutes by actually acknowedging them in the halls and lunchroom. This is a school that I will come back to in a second. If you like teaching good kids, then you will have agood day of subbing here.

I was very disappointed with the way Spanish was taught at this school. Both of my children…read morereceived C and B- grades in Spanish, despite being excellent students in other subjects. The main problem was that many students in the class already spoke Spanish or had Spanish-speaking family members, giving them a significant advantage. My children had no previous knowledge of Spanish and were there to learn the language from scratch. Unfortunately, the teacher made no effort to accommodate students who were complete beginners. Everyone was held to the same expectations, regardless of their previous experience with the language. When my children entered high school, I switched both of them to German. The results were completely different! Both earned A+ grades in German, enjoyed learning the language, and plan to continue studying German in college. This clearly demonstrated to me that the problem was not my children's ability to learn a foreign language, but the approach to teaching Spanish at this middle school. I believe a foreign language class should teach students a new language, not simply reward those who already know it. Students starting from zero deserve proper instruction, encouragement, and a fair opportunity to succeed. I hope the school will reconsider its approach to foreign language education so that future students do not have the same disappointing experience.
