Short Version: See Dr. Christopher Hodgkins if you have a foot or ankle problem. Don't think twice, just do it. I say this for your benefit, not his. Take it from me, a medical professional who recognizes one who truly takes pride and genuine concern in their craft. This, unfortunately, is becoming increasingly rare these days. He is highly trained in this specialty, and board certified, receiving two courses of additional training specifically in this area. He is also innovative, meticulous, responsible and shows a focused interest not only in his patients but also his practice and its efficiency and efficacy.
I saw 5 surgeons, so obviously I do my due diligence, and he was the best choice; this was confirmed not only by my research and subsequent experience, but also by my second option who spoke extremely highly of Dr. Hodgkins. He was the only doctor who chose to employ a nail, which is an innovative procedure, to repair the fracture. After researching this option, I am convinced this was the best approach as well.
Dr. Hodgkins took steps others did not to insure I would have a successful recovery from my trimalleolar fracture, which was so bad the doctor at the ski resort's clinic raised his eyebrows in shock when he first saw the x-ray. Dr. Hodgkins acquired a CT Scan prior to surgery, rather than resorting to a simple x-ray, which was the route some of my other options. He provides a packet with all the information one needs to navigate their part in the procedure, a step we are all trained to take in health care, but so little of us do. This is important, as we patients are inundated with so much information and are so concerned with our malady that we never can take in all the information. No other doctor provided this to me.
I am now 15 months removed from my surgery. I write this after coming back from a cabin trip where I traversed mountain trails and creeks with unsure and rocky footing. I play badminton, and weight train, leg pressing over 540 lbs, I also have a six-year-old and run around playing with him, and despite all my activity and all the strain I put on my ankle, I think about it maybe 3-4 times a week, on a BAD week. When I do, it is more soreness than pain, maybe a 2 in the pain scale, and I had a really bad fracture. My dexterity is at 85-90% and getting better, as my 50-year-old body heals more slowly. I could not be happier with my outcome. Kudos, Dr. Hodgkins!
Dr. Hodgkins is not only highly trained, he is also very empathetic and personable. He is affable, clear and has a great bedside manner. His staff genuinely seem happy to work for him and his office is efficient and well-organized. Everything is top notch. He also believes in his referrals as I spotted him doing rehab in the same facility to which I was referred. He also practices what he preaches as I saw him giving true effort during rehab. True integrity with skill, attention to detail, empathy and personability, what more can you ask for? I cannot recommend him strongly enough. Do yourself a favor and see doctor Christopher Hodgkins. You will not regret it! read more
