KINK Hair - Scabbing from pulling and scalp tension from extensions being installed too heavy

I paid $780 for extensions + $700 installation and left with the wrong curl pattern entirely. My…read morehair is 4A, the extensions were 3B (a noticeable mismatch) that the stylist and salon owner insisted "blended well." Rather than fix it in the salon, she told me to wet and scrunch them at home. They did not improve. When I had dinner with my grandpa the next day and he saw how awful my extensions looked said my hair looked like a "mop." Everyone who saw my hair was appalled at how awful they looked. After sending photos, neither the stylist nor the owner could acknowledge the obvious problem. The owner admitted the curl pattern wasn't an exact match but offered only a perm + reinstall, no refund. I was never shown the extensions before they were ordered, and Michelle the stylist told me that she had the "perfect extensions" to match my curl pattern. On top of the wrong curl pattern, the extensions were installed too heavily for my fine hair, leaving my scalp red, irritated, and scratched by sharp adhesive edges of the k tips . Given the damage, I declined further work and still received no refund for either the hair or the installation. No one at Kink Hair salon took accountability. If you have 4A curls or tighter, please save yourself some money and go to a curly extension specialist. I ended up buying 4A clip in curly extensions myself and they look like a perfect match, proving there's no excuse for licensed cosmetologists to not be able to find the proper curl patterned hair for my extensions.

She took a look at my hair and checked out how I had been taking care of it and gave me some tips on how to untangle the existing strands. She was so laid back during my visit with her and I am loving my hair. She is by far the most open and understanding stylist I have had in many years. I dig her vibe and the relaxed atmosphere. Grace is the best!

I saw Abby twice. The first time was a color and cut. The…read moresecond time was same but I wanted to go darker instead of lighter. I showed her pics of what I wanted. She proceeded to say it's not a problem. Here comes the problem:I was not impressed when I left the salon because it looked nothing like what I asked for and she knew that as I brought up my concerns before I left. She said the lighting in her loft might be throwing it off. So I left hoping once I got out it would be better. Nope. The color was not very nice and the cut was just ok. Uneven and didn't fit my face right. I let the weekend go by as to get used to the new look but I just couldn't live with it. I reached back out to her explaining my concern again and we set up another appointment for her to correct it. So now, after going in today to correct her mistake, she made it better but still not 100% in love. But it's close enough so I'll keep it. After the appointment was over I got a text from her saying she can no longer see me anymore. Like what? I'm confused. I wasn't planning on going back but the fact that she said " recent problems and complaints" is what pushed me over the edge. The audacity. I complained once. Was polite about it and treated her with respect even though I was concerned about her skill level. So I felt the need to share what kind of person she is in case you were planning on seeing her. I guess It's become too much to pay for a service to be performed and to actually receive the results they said they can deliver. Who knew?

I have been going to Mandy Morgan for a few years now and she is amazing. When I first decided to…read morestart using vivid hair colors, I went to 3-4 salons and could not find anyone that could get them right. I met Mandy at a nail event and she told me she thought she could give me the color I wanted so I gave her a shot. She was the first to finally capture it and I have been going to her ever since. Mandy is definitely a perfectionist (which is good for a hair professional) and is very friendly and personable. I would know since I have spent hours and hours getting my hair done with her. She is very good at being gentle with my hair and also giving me the colors that I want. She is also a true artist with the highlights, lowlights and balayage. I have awesome looking hair every time! Recently after changing jobs, I had to go with a more subtle look. Mandy has helped me keep some uniqueness, while not being too over the top!!! If your looking to change your look, or even maintain and are looking for an amazing hair colorist, I would def recommend Mandy! Mandy's loft is very nice looking and comfortable to spend time in. Mandy also does make up and although I have not tried her services for it, her makeup usually looks fantastic so I m guessing she is amazing with that too!!! I have recommended her to several friends and will def keep recommending her!!!

This review is for my girls with thick textured hair like myself. I am a mixed race woman with…read morethick curly hair. It can be difficult to find a stylist who can straighten my hair without excessive heat, resulting in a strong smell of being "burnt". I was very specific about my hair type when I called to make this appointment and I was assured that they had Stylist who knew how to work on textured hair. When I arrived for my appointment, I met Alli and after a conversation I felt comfortable that she could handle my hair and give me what I was looking for making me feel very comfortable. The shop itself is bright and clean and the splashes of yellow from the styling tools just made it feel refreshing. I was surprised by the fact so many hairdryers were being used, but it wasn't a smoky air. I took a photo as a reference of what I was looking for as the end result, and Alli did asked me to leave the photo open so she could reference it as she styled my hair and she did not disappoint. After a shampoo and a gloss treatment, my hair felt and smelled amazing. Her blow dry skills were excellent leaving me with the light and fluffy hair that I was looking for. She then took the curler and gave me a head full of curls, giving me the bouncy flowy head of hair I so desired. I was amazed at the outcome, completely satisfied with the style, service and the price. The entire experience was wonderful, and I highly recommend Alli and the Drybar in Clayton. I failed to take a photo as I was in a rush to get home, but trust and believe I will definitely be back.

They were running behind, which was totally fine, so I waited. This was my first time coming here and I was excited to try it. When I got to the chair around 5:10, I clearly asked for a blowout with big volume, pin-up curls using a round brush and rollers. I only ended up with about three rollers in my hair, nothing was pinned up, and my hair kept getting stuck in the round brush. My hair ended up very flat, which was the opposite of what I asked for. She then started curling random pieces with an iron, which confused me because I specifically asked for a blowout style. The whole time it felt like there was confusion about what service I wanted, even though I explained it clearly. I left feeling disappointed and like I didn't receive the service I asked for, especially for my first visit. I wish I could of got a complete refund because It was nothing I had asked for and honestly I could of done a better job myself with just a blow dryer and brush bc it looked like no one touched my hair.

Yeah it's a 5 star for me. I'm lucky to have Gidget to take care of my stylish man-do, (and that's…read morea joke as a bowl over my head with scissors would work) but Gidget is skilled and I always appreciate her expertise and attention and leaves me with an excellent experience. Please don't call and get her schedule tooo busy as it will make it more difficult for me to schedule my short notice appointments! The salon is nice, they have been there a while. Gidget is my second person I've seen while attending the spot. And I'm obviously speaking only of a man's perspective on the salon services, but they are consistently busy. Who wouldn't want a skilled, experienced, CUTE, conversationalist named GIDGET cutting your hair? Life is good.

I discovered this wonderful establishment while in a state of frustration because I could not make…read morean appointment with the other salon I tried out last month and my hair was starting to look slightly bad. I called Clare's thinking they will turn me away and tell me the next available appointment is not for another week or two but I was truly surprised when the receptionist told me someone could fit me in the very next day! Yay! I was also nervous because I felt like I was comfortable enough with the other salon that I would have liked it to be my regular place but I went and tried out Clare's. I got there and parked at a garage a few buildings down the road. There were plenty of parking and it was only $1/hour (and no it's not one of those permit only lots which is great!) There are some parking spaces on the side of the street as well but I was getting a color change so I didn't know how long that will take. When I came in, the receptionist greeted me and had me fill out some information on a sheet then I waited for a little while. My appointment was at 3 but I like to be early so I had some time to kill. The waiting area was nice and cozy. The place is well-lit and had a nice overall feel to it. When Alysha finally came in, she took me to her station and I told her the dilemma of having really dark hair and wanting something lighter. She offered to bleach it first and then dye it the color I want. She took almost 4 hours to do my hair and I love the color! Oh my gosh, I didn't even know it was possible. I had it done 5 weeks ago and had just accepted the fact that my hair will just be a slightly reddish color in this sunlight but never in normal lighting. Anyway, I am very happy with the change. She changed my bangs a bit and trimmed some parts of my hair a little. While I waited for the color to develop, I enjoyed a glass of cabarnet while I surf the web on my phone (I forgot my kindle!) It was such a lovely experience, I can't wait to go back! UPDATE- 5/24/15 I don't want to write an actual update to this review because I want people to know how I happen upon this place and how I came to know true happiness because of my stylist but I do want to add a few things. I've been coming to this salon regularly for about 3 months now both to do colors on my roots and get the rest of my hair freshened up since red does fade fairly quickly, and get my bangs trimmed. My stylist (Alysha) is still keeping me really happy when I come to see her: 3-4 weeks for bang trim and 5-6 weeks for my color. Also, there was a time when schedules got messed up and my poor stylist was running around like crazy but was able to accommodate both clients which was great! Other than that, this salon is still topnotch and I don't see myself going elsewhere.
