(Please know it breaks my heart to have to write this type of review.) In general, Dr. Schmitt was lovely. Easy going, knowledgeable, and addressed my issues quickly. My gripe is with the front desk staff/billing. I visited in early January 2022. Went to pay my bill right after seeing Dr. Schmitt and the credit card machine was down. As a Healthcare IT professional, I can undestand that. Things happen. I was expecting a charge for $124.32, as this was what they asked for on 1/11/2022. They couldn't process it so I informed them I'll just wait for the bill. It's now 3/1/2022 - and I still do not have the bill AND now I owe $180+! Where did this additional $60+ come from? Their statement: "You recieved skin tag removal - that's a cosmetic procedure. We don't send that to insurance." WHAT? You should have disclosed that at the appointment! You don't send everything to insurance? Why not? Who cares if its covered or not - let the insurance decide that. That's their entire job. This screams lack of transparency, shadiness, and overall a negative experience for patients - as now the bill is $60 higher than anticipated. Overall, just terrible billing practices. SHADY. Lastly, whoever was answering phones on 3/1/2022 @ 1PM needs a lesson in empathy. You may want to look at another dermatology office. read more

I found Dr. Schmidt on here. I'm so glad that I did! I had issues with a red rash on my chest & the back of my neck & itchy skin all over my body except for my back for over two months. We have no insurance, so I was waiting for the rash to clear up with the use of OTC cortisone. It helped a little, but it took forever. I think that some perfume made me break out as well as heat & excessive stress. The first visit was inexpensive. It only cost $79 online. They're trying to see paitients online now for safety reasons. The lady on the phone was nice & she told me how to do everything as I never dealt with an online Drs. visit before. It was easy. All I had to do was upload pics of my rash & create a free account. He got back to me in two days or less with his diagnosis. I was told that it's probably eczema. He prescribed me some medication & an ointment. The medication worked! Neither medications cost more than $12 each with my goodrx coupon. Its free btw. Just go to goodrx.com, type in the exact name of the medication, exact number of pills, dosage, and a list of prices from various stores will come up. Then show that to the pharmacist to get the discount. It's good for a few months & discounts can be used over again. He answered my messages quickly. The reviews about him were right, he's great & he knows what he's doing! I'll definitely come back to see him again the next time I have skin issues. read more

Do not go to this doc at all cost! #1- He prescribed a medication that I am allergic to even after telling him that i am severely allergic. We discussed about this and he gave me another drug that is in the same family. #2-fraud- they charged me $100 in addition to my copay. Called my insurance and they confirmed everything was covered other than copay. Called the office and they refunded right away. They knew they were doing fraud. #3- extremely money minded. Schmidt said I can talk about either my scars or acne in one visit coz insurance doesn't cover. When I scheduled my appointment I made it clear about the 2 issues. #4-Service was rushed and not thorough. #5- extremely rude front desk- The front desk person, the thinner one was super rude. I simply asked about insurance coverage question (like very nicely). Her response was like what do you want me to do? Give you what the doc gave? You want the prescription? I want to start by saying I have no complaints about Dr. Schmidt's care or abilities and have had a good experience seeing him. However I will be finding a new dermatologist due to their office policies and staff. I saw Dr. Schmidt right before the holidays (12/22) for some mole checks because I have had a previous Basal Cell Carcinoma. I realized the next day that I forgot to have him check a large one on my back. I did wait over 2 weeks to call them back, because I assumed they'd be closed during the holidays, and asked if I could email the Dr. a photo of it to see if I needed to do something about it. The office staff refused and stated I needed to make a completely new appointment. I thought they were also quite rude about it too. I doubt my insurance will cover 2 mole checks within a couple of weeks of each other and it seemed like a $$ thing and not about patient care. read more

Great doctor. Staff is really helpful and very friendly. I had a question about my bill which was correct, but they jumped at the chance to adjust it. I told them no, but what a nice offer. My FP, Dr. Melissa Wu, recommended Dr. Schmidt right down the outdoor hallway from her office. My mother is Australian and had several basal cell and melanoma removals after a lifetime in the sun. I have my skin checked at least every six months since I now live in California. Dr. Schmidt office doesn't make me wait more than 2 weeks for an apt and is always professional and assuring. I recently had an liquid nitrogen treatment and healed in a week without scarring. I can just point to an area and he can diagnose each condition without hesitation. Dr. Schmidt is very personable, listens well and answers questions. I never feel rushed even though his office usually has several people in the waiting room. The office staff are very friendly and always offer samples which are great for traveling . There is a parking lot but access can be tricky. It is easier to come down Los Gatos Blvd, turn into Good Samaritan and immediately turn onto to National Road by the nursing home facility. The other way is to come down the street behind Ace Hardware and turn left onto National but it is difficult to see cars coming down the street on the corner. read more

We were looking for a dermatologist to help us with a pathology I'd been afflicted with. Most of the help you'll find when you look up dermatology is cosmetic, so more clinical help is harder to find. He came in with his nurse-practitioner (at least I think that was her role) listened to my case intently, asked a number of questions, and then gave me a detailed diagnosis, based on his years of experience and number of cases he'd worked on. I just paid my first visit to Dr. Schmidt to have my eczema examined. I am very impressed with his overall manners. He is friendly and approachable, yet knowledgeable and professional. His personality is very well balanced that as a patient, I felt extremely comfortable trusting his advice and expertise. I guess I don't have too much to say about my treatment experience with him, seeing as how I just had common and mild eczema. I was prescribed an ointment and left the office. This my second time visiting Dr Schmidt. I have to say he is a very nice doctor; the reason for one star is the way they charged me. The visit took only 10 minutes and they billed my insurance for $265.00. I called the office, and they told me this is how they can make more money from the insurance company, and if I would have paid cash, it would have been cheaper. i hate going to the Dr. especially the skin Dr. My sister and I lost our dad to melanoma a long time ago and with that comes a lifetime of check ups and monitoring of keeping ourselves healthy. Dr.Schmidt is worth the wait for an appt because he is so sweet, comforting, understanding and never makes me feel totally weird when he has to see me in my underwear. The assistants are always quick and funny and always offer up free samples of lotion at the end of a awkward mole check. I appreciate that he is always sensative to my family history. I have been seeing Dr. Schmidt for years for regular checkups. He's really great - personable, easy to talk to, actually listens to you and doesn't make you feel rushed. My husband and I both are his patients and we have even had him take a look at our young son when he had a skin-related issue. I have recommended him to friends and they like him too. Dr. Schmidt comes across as a very caring position that shows empathy towards his patients. I moved away from that area a couple of years ago, and had a situation where I needed to get in to see a dermatologist. Neither my insurance company nor I could find eye doctor in San Francisco but had any availability to see me in what was an urgent matter. I came in for Dr. Schmidt to look at what I was told was a cyst on the bridge of my nose. I was told by another doctor that I would need surgery and it would be a fairly big procedure. Dr. Schmidt looked at it and said he could shave it off right away and he did not think it was a cyst. My husband encouraged me to do it then so I did. The procedure took less than a minute and was not very painful. I healed in two weeks and now I am enjoying my bump-free nose. He is wonderful and his office has a retro, simplistic feel. Found his site via Yelp. It has a Iderm.net to take photos and evaluate with an online form/process. Did that. First off, I should have known when NO WHERE there is a price for services this is an easy money grab. Received a response within 24 hours (I guess good?). Asked to charge my CC first (I get why). Received a 43 word response for $65 (I'm sure logging in took longer). and the ending response "use as needed." Not sure what I was expecting but I feel I got snookered at that rate for very little "work" performed. I get you have to make money on the transaction, but $65 seems a bit excessive. Also the easy to follow "prescription" lets you find pharmacies but doesn't give any details in regards to phone numbers or the ever-needed fax number to proceed. Also no email address to contact. This doctor is just amazing! Very professional and well mannered. Unlike other dermatologist, he is a REAL doctor and focused on getting your skin healthy, and not selling you a bunch of temporary treatments. Knowing he doesn't sell you on cosmetic treatments or other snake oil should make you trust him even more. In my past experiences with other derms, they just kept selling me useless and expensive products all the time and spent 50% of my visit selling and not taking seriously what I was trying to discuss. Dr. Schmidt is totally different. He takes the time to understand what is going on, and then explains the science of what he is recommending. His office is pretty clean, and his staff is very polite but can come off as cold on the phone. I am guessing its based on the number of calls they must get, but regardless if you have anything on your skin that is bothering you find a way to get an appointment with him. read more

Just saw him this morning. Really nice waiting room - vaulted ceilings, mid-century modern furniture - even a fireplace. The staff was friendly and super helpful. There is a basket of samples of lotion in the waiting room too! I had never been to a Dermatologist before but really needed to get this dark colored bump on my head checked out - as my Mother had melanoma cancer and therefore at risk for this sort of thing. SO Happy to say, he took a close look - NO Cancer!! He was so friendly and patient and answered all my questions I had about skin.
