We will never employ the services of Chris Linback again, nor recommend him. If we ever see him again, it will be in Small Claims Court. We hired Chris to tile the counter tops and backsplash of a large U-shaped outdoor kitchen. We provided him with detailed CAD drawings of the design and specifications, plus all the tile required. And, had our cabinet maker on site to assist if so needed. First. Chris ignored the tile design and patterns for the top of a two-tiered bar. We came home to find the decorative tile intended as a border treatment missing, and called Chris. Second. Chris was on his way home from our job and could not be bothered to come back and pull up the base tile to make room for the missing border treatment. My wife had to pull up the tile herself before the adhesive base hardened. Third. Chris ignored my verbal and written request to carefully sort the accent tiles as some had a slight curve. We wanted the flat tiles as border treatment on the bar top. Curved tiles could be used on the vertical backsplash. Instead, Chris used the best pieces on the backsplash. So when he came back to fix the missing accent borders, the bar top has all the curved pieces. Plates, glasses and platters wobble due to the uneven surface. Fourth. Chris did not seal the grout. We had to do it. Fifth. Despite all the mistakes, Chris billed us for an amount 30% higher than the estimate. My wife paid him before I discovered the increase. I demanded he give back the overage and he refused. The fact that we didn't pursue the matter legally still bothers me. read more

We wanted to remodel a bathroom, including replacing the shower, bathroom floor, and countertop. The project started because the shower was leaking. We have had trouble with contractors not responding or being very slow to respond. They would return a phone call or email in 4 or 5 days with no apologies as if having a customer wait that long is perfectly normal. Chris would always return calls, texts, and emails promptly. Chris was extremely knowledgeable and never had to guess at an answer. After talking to him we realized he had done this many times. He also never asked for money up front. Both of these factors helped put us at ease. When the work began he was very neat, laying drop cloths on our floors. He also had this giant suction device/blower that blew the dust that was created from the demolition out the window. We were very surprised at how efficient he was at work. He didn't waste any time and always had whatever tools or parts he needed. He would just go nonstop until the project was done. Everyday we could see good progress. It turned out that the grout color we chose for the floor didn't look the way we expected. In a panic, I called him that evening after he had finished the grout to express our concern. He said he could come back to dig the grout out while it was still fresh -- this was nearly 7:00 pm! After a discussion, we realized we just over-reacted and we turned down his offer. Now all is fine and we actually are very happy with our design decisions, as well as with his professionalism and the whole experience. read more

We have now hired Chris Linback twice to do tiling work. The first time, he built an entire shower in the master bathroom, using white subway tile and colored-glass accent tile. The second time, Chris placed large tiles on the floor and along the wall of our front bathroom, as well as installing a sink and cabinet/vanity. We are very happy with both jobs. The craftsmanship is extremely professional and looks really clean and modern (I'm sure Chris can work in other styles as well, of course). From talking to Chris Linback, I have learned that he's been doing tiling jobs since, if memory serves, the 1980s. He's done just about every kind of tiling (and related work), and he is no-nonsense about everything. He works alone, works fast, and works quietly (though he does bring a small radio to listen to the local jazz station). For the 2nd tiling job, Chris completed everything in one day that other contractors told me would take two, three, or even four days. I must admit, I was (and am) a relative novice when it comes to hiring contractors to do tiling work. It's a nerve-wracking process because people will tell you entirely different things and of course I have no idea who is right and who's full of it. My final conclusion is that there are a lot of B.S.'ers and bluffers out there, and Chris Linback falls squarely on the "NOT full of B.S." side of that equation. He communicates very clearly and his bids on the projects turned out to be not only competitive, but in some cases HALF as much as other contractors had quoted me. (Note: While some contractors might want to negotiate prices, Linback's quote was already very competitive and he is not the type who wants to haggle -- his quoted price is already a great deal.) read more

I used Chris for our bathroom remodel. We used large format tiles (36x18 and 24x24), which many installers struggle with. The custom no step shower with linear drain was tricky to do, but Chris totally got what I wanted to achieve and did a fantastic job. He communicates well, and is very pleasant to work with!
