The portraits and the random signs..everything just makes you think of the history that this place has seen (over 300 years!) The pumpkin soup was great. Since we were such a large group, we ordered ahead and had several great options to choose from -- a smart move that made everything run smoothly. I had the salad with chicken, and it was absolutely delicious -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Others in our group were equally happy with their meals, and the portions were generous all around. The beer was also excellent -- crisp, well-crafted, and a perfect match for the food and the setting. You can tell they take pride in their brewing. What really stood out, though, was the service and atmosphere. Despite the size of our group, the staff was efficient, friendly, and totally on top of things. And the interior? Absolutely gorgeous -- warm, historic, and full of character. It's the kind of place where you instantly feel like you're somewhere special. The Inselhopf is maybe the best Helles lager I've had in Germany and I have tried quite a few. We had the Brägele mit Münsterkäse überbacken which was delicious although the münster cheese was a little bit more pungent than I am used to getting back in the states. A little bit closer in flavor to Swiss cheese but very good. We also had the quarck with herbs which, if you've never had it, is close to a cross between ricotta and sour cream or Greek yogurt but with onion mixed in. It came with bread and onions and it was excellent as an appetizer. I also had the fried Nürnberger bratwurst which was on special and it was some of the best Nürnberger sausages that I've had on this trip to Germany. Highly recommend this place!

It gets crowded but you can often find a spot at the bar. If you want to sit in the beer garden, you can swing by the main restaurant to get pretzels. The beer is light, crisp and refreshing. It was slightly sweet and citrusy for a great hydrating drink. I'd definitely stop by again. Cash only.
