I am a new patient to Dr. Kirchner and so far I have had a great experience. Dr. Kirchner is very thorough in explaining things and procedures. She makes sure to go over everything thoroughly when suggesting a procedure or doing a consultation. I felt very welcomed as a new patient. She is the best dentist in West Seattle! The staff is always kind and nice to me and treats me well. They are very professional in their actions and mannerisms and have good customer service skills. The office is very clean and I love the vibe. When I had a suggestion about how they should update their forms, they took the suggestion and did it. That was appreciated. Warning: Don't go there unless you have deep pockets. The routine checkup/cleaning is ok. Nothing very bad, nothing exceptional. The main issue is that they force you to " purchase " expensive services besides the standard, fully-reimbursed cleaning. They check you and claim that you need some deeper cleanings or advanced treatments. And then they don't want to even do the routine checkup unless you pay for these expensive services. Also the lead dentist doesn't seem to treat her assistants well. She was complaining about one of her assistants' work right in front of me and her assistant. I personally don't want to support a bad manager. read more

Dr. Kirchner created a treatment plan that was unnecessary and exorbitant in cost (several thousand dollars). I went to another dentist in the area who didn't make any of the same recommendations. I see the dentist faithfully every 6 months and have had no major issues for years. I will not be back. read more

There was a gap in communicating the out of pocket expenses for 2 routine treatments. The response from the business manager in addressing the situation was unacceptable and lacked customer focus. When I told Areesa that I need a provider who can proactively communicate the financial impact of various treatments and help me optimize for my insurance plan, she recommended that I see a new provider. Poor business management in terms of a) not catching or communicating the out of pocket expenses in advance of the treatment and b) recommending that we move to a new provider instead of providing a concession for the communication gap. Very happy to take my family elsewhere. read more

The Best! I have been avoiding the the dentist for years, because of several different dental mishaps. My anxiety and fear got the best of me, and I knew it was just going to get worse. Dr. Kirchner was recommended by someone who had similar situations happen and swore her and her team would take care of me. My friend was absolute correct and I can not emphasize enough at HOW HAPPY I AM. I look forward to my visits, and my teeth and gums are even more excited. My dental health is on the mends and I can not thank the staff here enough. I started seeing Dr. Kirchner in 2015, and over the past few years my anxiety and fear have almost completely diminished. Diminished enough that I have started Invisalign in Dec. 2017. I have never thought my teeth needed alignment for aesthetics, in fact a lot of people are surprised I am doing Invisalign. But my bottom tooth is forward enough to be chipping my upper front tooth, and Dr. Kirchner explained that as we get older it will continue to move. She also pointed out that aligning my other teeth will make it easier to clean and keep clean, resulting in a healthier mouth! The whole process was explained and has been much easier than I expected. I can not recommend Dr. Kirchner and her staff enough. They are gentle, caring and they listen to me...and I have never felt judged for my years of missed visits! If you are looking for a new dentist for what ever reason...you must give this office a try. read more

I have been to this office for the past 8 years and have enjoyed great service. Three years ago they got a new front receptionist that mars the whole experience. You put up with her because you like the office. It has become to much to handle she has a way of dealing with patients in a flat condescending tone that becomes aggressive if you ask questions. Trust me it is not conducive to a good experience for the office overall. I am finally leaving for good too much time with her has put me in a bad mood. Once she even came back while I was getting my teeth cleaned because she heard me talking to the hygienist, just to let me know if I asked questions I would be charged. Where you go to see a dentist is a choice, no need to tolerate being rude to. When you call and hear her voice you will know exactly what I am talking about. There is no escape from the front desk. I am a young women with generally pretty good dental health, history of braces/ orthodontics, and recently some small cavities as a result of poor dental health in college without an electric toothbrush and flossing. Let me say this about the dentist and hygienists at the office: They are great! Everyone I have worked with is wonderful, knowledgeable, and are just generally nice to be around. The doctor is VERY good at always checks you for oral cancer and other issues which not all other dentists do. She doesn't charge for this and it's simply included in her excellent preventative service. The hygienists are excellent too and I always feel respected, welcomed, and taken care of here. I disagree with the few people who have said they feel "scammed" and definitely don't feel that way here. So why the low rating? The business manager is a huge pain!!! She is very rude and does not try to build on the rapport that the others obviously care about. She's harsh, and hands you a huge bill the moment you step out of the office. It's not that I think the rates are unreasonable but rather that she's TERRIBLE with customer service. For example, I asked for a copy of something she had (not very well) explained to me. Instead of being communicative she said "it's in your packet" in a flat, rude way as she ripped the copy out of my hands. Dr. Kirchner- your staff is wonderful EXCEPT for this business manager! Had a terrible experience here! I had to find a dentist in West Seattle because my previous dentist would no longer accept my insurance. After my second cleaning, she recommend that most of my silver fillings be replaced because there were becoming too old. Really? My old dentist didn't say anything and my orthodontist, who I just finished wearing Invisaligns with, did not say anything either. But I thought, "She's the professional, I should trust her." So, I scheduled an appointment to replace a couple fillings. On the day of the appointment all her staff reassured me you will not feel pain from the novacane needle. They said she's SO GOOD at it you won't even feel the prick....ummm, YES I DID and she was a bit rough! And during my visit I had to stop her to re-numb one spot because it started to wear off. Then she put too much and my mouth was numb the whole rest of the day. After several hours of lying in a dentist chair being drilled on, I was ready to go home. I was a little "out of it", but the receptionist made me pay the balance that my insurance did not cover. Really? I'm uncomfortable, foggy, and in pain and I have to whip out my wallet to discuss charges? You couldn't bill me? Then, a couple days pass and I started to experience sensitivity in my teeth. I went back at least 6 times for her to fix the fillings because they were causing sensitivity. She finally then suggested I go back to my orthodontist because the issue should no longer be because of her. I was shocked. So, I go back to my orthodontist for help. He was surprised to see me again because my services with him were done (I was done wearing Invisaligns). And, he was now shocked that I got new fillings because he did not think I needed them. He had to alter the bed-time retainer I was using until the sensitivity went away. Then after 2 months, I had to get re-fitted for all new retainers because with the new fillings, my old retainers no longer fit properly. Dr. Kirchner reassured me that my new fillings should NOT affect my retainers...well they did! Thanks, that cost me $300!! My orthodontist recommended a different dentist in West Seattle and I went there. On my first visit I was REALLY nervous because of the bad experience I had at Dr. Kirchner. I told the new dentist my whole story and he also thought it was unnecessary to change out my fillings. The fillings I did not have changed out by Dr. Kirchner, this new dentist said they were FINE and did not need replacing. I feel scammed and went through a whole lot of unnecessary inconvenience. read more

I love Dr. Kirchner & all of her staff! I recently became a patient after several years of neglecting my oral health. I was nervous, scared & filled with anxiety. I was almost immediately put at ease upon entering her office! I have had several procedures done over the last 3 months and the staff here have been so friendly & helpful that I no longer need to take Valium before my appointments! The business manager, Areesa, helped me figure out all my billing and is so sweet to me that I actually look forward to seeing her! They are outside of my insurance network but Areesa helped me come up with a payment plan that was totally affordable and won't break the bank of a grocery store employee. I honestly cannot say enough good things! Dr. Kirchner and her team have restored my trust in dentists! So much so that I was inspired to write my first yelp review! read more

I've experienced almost exactly the same situation as Brendan S. below. I first want to say how wonderful the techs and hygienists are, and I almost always had very good interactions with Dr. Kirchner. Those members of the staff are all cheerful and a pleasure to deal with, especially the hygienists. My problem was with the office manager. When a mouth guard was recommended, she looked up my insurance and told me that this was not covered. This seemed strange to me, since it was medically recommended by Dr. K., so I went and looked it up myself in my insurance materials. I found that in fact, my insurance *does* cover a mouth guard. I took that information back to the manager, expecting that there was simply a misunderstanding. She said no, they were recommending a special kind of mouth guard that I was more likely to use regularly, and my insurance didn't cover that special kind. She told me it was only a little more expensive, around $50, and they knew what was best for me. I pointed out that no, because insurance wouldn't cover the special kind, it was $250 additional out of pocket, which was a *much* greater cost. She kept insisting that their option was the better one. I wouldn't at all have minded her explaining all that at the beginning; I expect good practitioners to explain to patients what our options are, then let us choose what works best for us with all things considered. But initially she only told me about the higher-cost treatment, then told me I was wrong about what my insurance covered, then told me I was wrong about the cost, then told me I was wrong in my judgment about the medical treatment I preferred. While in the waiting room, I've also overheard her explaining things wrong to other patients, and not understanding why they didn't accept her explanations. I finally took my business elsewhere. It may be that that office manager no longer works there, in which case I would recommend Dr. K.'s practice without reservation. read more

I had Dr Kirchner fix my front tooth with a partial crown. She did an awesome job! It took several visits but in the end she made my smile great again. There are some reviews on here about a mean office manager but I didn't experience any bad service. I wouldn't say she goes over the top to be nice but that is okay with me. read more

Like others, I am leaving this dentist office primarily because of the office manager. This dentist was recommended to me by a friend and I saw her for several years. She's a good dentist, with gentle hands and lots of patience. She and her hygienist staff explain everything they are doing, which is really nice. The hygienists are amazing here! However I am getting sick of dealing with the office manager. She is rude, condescending and unhelpful. I won't go into personal stories but I have several. I wish Dr Kirchner would get rid of her, but hey, maybe she's exactly what the doctor wants. I'm going elsewhere. read more

I started going to Dr. Kirchner shortly after I moved to Seattle from Arizona. I never really could find a dentist I liked in Arizona in my 5 years of living there; I would go to a dentist and decide I didn't like them and just not go back. At this point I was in some serious need for some dental work. I'll say this, and I'm probably not alone; I'm very skeptical of dentists and sometimes put them in the same class as chiropractors, meaning that I think they will conveniently find problems and create a sense of urgency.. "this oral problem needs to be fixed today, and by the way that will be $800." and I've had the dentists who just make you feel guilty about your oral hygiene, which to me is just another used car sales tactic. Sometimes the dentist isn't the bad guy, Sometimes you get a nasty hygienist who just hates their life and wants to take it out on some poor soul sitting in their chair that day by putting them through excruciating pain, which they might use a term like "deep cleaning" for, but don't be fooled, it's really just another form of medieval torture. And watch out for the scheister dentists who want to sell you expensive laser gum surgery, because that's a bunch of bull shit too. I like going to Dr. Kirchner because she's thorough and she explains the problem and talks about the solution. In my case of my particular oral condition, it would be easy for her to try to sell me on some expensive solution, or just send me off to the periodontist for $3000 implants, but she doesn't do that. She provides a comprehensive exam, a good cleaning, and evaluates the changes over time. Her staff is really great too. The hygienists aren't butchers on your gums, they will tell you what's going on and give you the option to get numb for minor procedures like rooting and scaling. I definitely like Dr. Kirchner's office because I don't feel like I'm on a used car lot for my teeth. I will definitely keep coming back to Dr. Kirchner. read more

This was by far the best dental experience I've ever had. I recently moved back to West Seattle so wanted to find a dentist closer to home. I schedule an appointment for my annual cleaning, x-rays, general exam and to have a TMJ issue looked at. I have been going to Dr. Kirchner's office for the past 9 years. I have always found her to be a thorough and caring dentist. All the staff take time to answer questions and explain everything they are doing and why it is important to your oral health. As far as her front office staff, I think the topic of prices and payment is a delicate manner, but they've always treated me with respect when explaining my bills, and try their best to explain what your insurance pays and why you have to pay. Dr. Kirchner and her staff are also great with kids! My kids (7 and 3) love visiting "Dr. Christy" and usually pretend to be her for several days after their check-ups. Everyone I met on my first visit - medical and office staff alike - was warm and welcoming, cheerful, respectful, friendly, and clearly experienced and very good at what they do. Dr. Kirschner gave me a play-by-play explanation of the routine exam as she administered it. Both she and Sam the hygienist were very encouraging about all the things I was doing right in my home care routine, but not at all critical or condescending in suggesting what I might do to improve. They both went to great lengths to respectfully explain most of the medical jargon they used in my presence so I wouldn't feel like they're talking over my head. I have had a problem tooth for the past 8 years. I had a bad crown from an old dentist in California, which has been replaced three different times with different dentists. When it came loose, I went to Dr. Kirschner and she is the first dentist who has been able to alleviate the constant sensitivity I've had on this tooth. She took one look at it and said, "I can see where it's hitting high," and was able to file it down perfectly. I am SO RELIEVED! This is the first time my mouth has been pain free in years. There are some dentists who just have an extra ability to really understand and solve their patient's concerns, and she is one of them. read more

I have been going to this office for over 10 years and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My prior dentist would check in for a minute and put most things on a 'watch status'. This process resulted in increased sensitivity over time as small issues were not fixed. Dr. Kirchner has taken a proactive approach, addressing issues when they are small rather than watching them grow bigger before taking action. The procedures have been pleasant, the staff is friendly and Dr. Kirchner has taken time to explain any issues thoroughly and educate me on what is happening and will be done. I literally learned more about dentistry at my appointment with Dr Kirchner and her awesome staff today than I have in all my previous 42 years of dentist appointments. That may not seem like much, but my past experiences have always been sort of like a conveyor belt -- you go in, wait a while, they rush you in, polish you up, and ship you back out. Job done, but with little thought or care. Today, I didn't wait. Not 1 minute. I went in, went back, and Meagan gave me a tour of the facility (seriously!), introduced me around, and then explained everything in great (but fascinating) detail. Now I finally have answers to a lot of questions I've always wondered about with my teeth. As if that weren't enough, they have all the latest dentistry tech - you wouldn't think that would be a high tech industry, but digital x-rays and no metal hooks scraping my teeth off? Yeah, I'll take that deal all day. Dr. Kirchner came in and explained not only things I needed to take care of, but we talked about other things that I'd always wanted, but just assumed I couldn't afford. Further to that end, I actually got to sit with Areesa, the business manager, who printed out all my insurance information, and a list of everything I'd ever wanted and how much it would cost me after insurance. Now I literally have a menu to pick from, and I know what to budget. Real facts, real numbers. Who can honestly ever say they look forward to going back to a dentist? I can! read more

I do not reccommend this dentist. Her front office staff is rude and unfriendly. She did not help me with my dental insurance. I also sat in the chair waiting for Dr. Kirchner for over 20 minutes while I heard her chatting away in the next room over. I was not impressed with the doctor or her rude staff. read more

I have had a couple of experiences with Dr. Kirchner and am not planning on going back for a couple of reasons. First, and primarily, the business manager is really a piece of work. I wasn't notified that they don't take my insurance until AFTER my appointment, even though they asked for the information in advance. I guess in retrospect I should have pointedly asked, but I just feel that offering that information demonstrates a courtesy that should be extended by any health related business and some degree of honesty. Not offering that information seems deceptive to me. Second, the hygienists are nice but when the dentist was doing a filling for me, she and her assistant had what seemed like a really inappropriately casual conversation about Walla Walla etc as they worked in my mouth while I was awake but just ignoring that I was there at all. It was a little off-putting. They do use tons of anesthetic, which I did really appreciate and ultimately did good work and had me sold on returning since it is very convenient to my house etc. However, and finally, I'm going to be leaving this practice due to my most recent experience with the front office manager. I needed to reschedule an appointment that I made and had gotten busy at work and asked to reschedule when they called to confirm the appointment. I was asked, in a really nasty tone, if I was aware of the cancellation policy, and was then told that I would be charged a $50 cancellation fee since I had given less than 48 hours notice (this was Thursday morning for a Monday appointment - apparently it's a 48 hour business day policy...). I questioned this since I was asking to reschedule and told them that I certainly was not going to be paying them $50 to reschedule. I was then chastised by the front office manager and rescheduled. I just called again, because I had to reschedule again and asked to move the appointment to later in the same day (busy working mom of two kids...got called in to work for the morning and trying to do my best here...) and was told that they schedule cleanings 6 months in advance and that asking to be rescheduled for the most popular time of the day was just absurd and that the office manager was going to "waive the fee for me AGAIN." Good grief. I can't believe this place is still in business...or maybe they're just surviving by harassing people with condescension and threats of $50 cancellation fees. read more
