First of all, this school basically says "Screw you AND your kids" to everything. Being late due to traffic counts as a unexcused tardy. "Screw you and your kids, if somebody died from a crash. Its your fault". Secondly, for the upcoming missions week, they are STEALING 3 days from the students march BREAK. "Oh yeah, after weeks of school, full of homework that exausts the kids. Lets make them waste their break to go somewhere else." Thirdly, this school wastes all their money on activites and gives it all to the church. This school is VERY unorganized. Barely any P.E things to use, seems like they just hire teachers instantly because some of the teachers here SUCK at teaching. For example, the bible teacher gave the STUDY GUIDE for the first FINAL a DAY BEFORE the final. Also, this school says its better then every other school but is not. A student got detention for four hours for being on their phone AFTER school hours, and they try to force your kids to stay an extra hour for three days a week after school for band. (Band is also terrible here and is quite boring to the students). Do NOT send your children to this school, consider something else. read more

I have sent all my kids here since 2015 and every administrator and teacher has been outstanding from day one. I'm addition to being a diamond in the ruff, they have exceeded all my expectations even though it's a very small school. They are not only amazing role models, they are personally invested in all the kids. I personally feel like their second parents to my children. The reviewers make it seem that this school is a self-righteous, money-hungry school, that uses GOD to come down on their students and parents if they don't comply. They must keep in mind that we are all human and will make mistakes, and please don't use God to guilt families to do what you want them to (control). The reviews below don't look good for your school and business. Please work on making your school and business a better environment, and Parents will trust to enroll their children at your school. Christian Academy is a great school! The teachers are loving and kind. My children have been attending this school for 4 years and I appreciate all the time, effort, and love their teachers have poured into their students. During Covid -19, the school teachers took the initiative and challenge to make sure students had the opportunity to continue their education online. It gave me peace of mind to know that my child had some great teachers and even managed to stay on top of the kids even from a distance. My children were also able to continue band classes, art, and library. At the end of the school year, I found letters of encouragement and even a gift from the teacher's to the students with their belongings. Principal Rebecca Furuhashi was also an amazing leader before and during the time of Covid. Her performance as a principal and leadership of the school is outstanding. She is a very hard worker and firm when she needs to be, but she is also very kind and fair. She's actually a great person. I'm glad we sent our boys here. read more

After graduating from this school in 2016, I believe that Christian Academy is a private Christian school unlike any other. I've been attending here since preschool and I am happy to be considered a Christian Academy alumnus. Through their approach in reading the Bible, understanding and applying scripture to every subject, and actively pursuing an intimate relationship with God while incorporating all of this with academics, sports, and everyday life, I believe that Christian Academy has propelled itself far beyond comparison with other private Christian schools. Sure, we are small in size, however, the spirit and heart of this school is bigger than any other school I know. This school has really groomed me into becoming the man I am today and I will always eternally grateful. Now even with all the good that Christian Academy brings to the table, no school is perfect. No private Christian school is perfect. I think that for some students who might've had bad experiences at CA, their expectation of what they wanted to get out from this school wasn't what they wanted nor what they got. Also, being there for like 16 to 17 years, I've seen my share of imperfections in this school and the areas that there definitely needs to be some growth. However, this school, just like every other school, is growing and learning how to be the best they can be with what they have, and I think there needs to be more grace given, especially in the areas of academic growth. And these areas of growth does not at all take away from all the good that Christian Academy has done and is currently doing for its students, staff, and society. Overall, this is a great school. It is definitely a school built upon the support of families, friends, church and good community. Given that it's a small school, there is no excuse in not getting involved because there are always roles that need to be filled at CA. You'll definitely get a lot of playing time with any of the sports team that you may participate in. Me and my sister are part of the basketball society at Christian Academy and it's safe to say that after a few consecutive divisional championships in both volleyball and basketball, we are climbing up that Hawaii athletics chain. My best advice that I can give to any future student, parent, investor, or supporter of Christian Academy is to understand that while there is much more growth that needs to be done, this school's heart for God and how it affects everything and everyone is what truly makes this school great. I wouldn't trade this experience for any other Christian private school in the world. read more

We all know that negative comments made by individuals are usually based on their highly subjective experience and we need to be aware that there are always two sides to a story. My experience with Christian Academy has always been pleasant. I can say without a doubt that we have one of the best Principal and VP any school can ask for. I can also say that my opinion is highly objective, as I know many parents would agree with me. Every student is unique and special in our Principal's eyes and she takes each of them very seriously. This school is more than just academics; they teach life lessons, guide and have a sincere care about each student. With the way the world is now and the many influences that can easily influence a student, I am glad I have been rooted with a strong foundation. I attended and graduated from Christian Academy but before that, I attended public school. My family where not Christians nor went to church before sending my sister and I to Christian Academy. We first attended their summer fun program and my parents loved what we were being taught and the general environment of everyone at the summer fun, that they decided to send us to Christian Academy. The school is really small but that didn't hinder the way I learned nor affected my future education in college at the University of Washington. Learning became very personable and the teachers had more time to spend with me and really explain things to me that I didn't understand. The teachers knew each student and understood how they learned. Not every person learned the same and the teachers were able to spot that and alter some of the teaching styles to make sure everyone was able to learn and understand what was being taught. Everyone in my class built a trusting relationship with their teachers which made it easier to ask for help. Education: There is not a wide range of electives or optional classes to take, but being in a small school allows you to be a part of almost all the electives that are available. This also helps when looking into colleges because not many students can say that they were involved in....journalism, yearbook, student government, choir, band, volleyball and basketball, all while managing your everyday student homework. This school allows you to be a part of many things that you may not have been able to do in a big school setting. Everyone that I graduated with all went to college and have graduated. Character: Over the years there has been a huge decline in respect for others. Being at this school really taught me about respect and having a Christ like character. I wasn't always the best student, almost getting expelled and some detention time, but with the guidance of teachers and staff, I was able to get back on track and really shape up. If it wasn't for the guidance and the care this school had for me, I would not have the success I have today. I didn't always agree or get along with the teachers but now looking back, there is a lot of things that I see now that they only did or said because they truly cared. This school didn't just prepare me for higher education but for life. They helped shape and mold me at a young age so that when I went off to college in Seattle, my parents didn't have to worry so much about the choices and decisions I would make. Attending Christian Academy was the best decision my parents made for my sister and I. When you're at Christian Academy, you become family. The school is small where everyone knows everyone and you grow up with the same classmates and parents grow together too. Even after graduating high school, the parents in my class still kept in contact. They all have been involved with the same kids for years that it's like they have grown up together too. You will definitely have your ups and downs with this school but the person your child becomes, the life lessons they will learn, and the relationships they will build between parent and child, teacher and child, and classmates will all be worth it. read more

This is a great school. My child has gone to both public and private schools. Since going to Christian Academy, my child has been more disciplined and has made many good friends here. She is happy at this school. The staff and Administrators care about the students and families. It is a family atmosphere. The curriculum is challenging with many reports, debates, quizzes, and tests. There's also many opportunities to grow in other areas- robotics, foreign language, sports, etc... I was impressed that they teach the students etiquette and speech. We are planning to send our second child here also because she wanted to go here after being in the summer fun program. read more

Both my children have been attending Christian Academy from the ages of three years old, enrolled as "Little Lambs" preschoolers and continuing on now as a high school student (my son) and as a middle school student (my daughter). This school is truly a "CHRISTIAN" school, a faith based school, standing on the truth of God's Word. As Christians, Jesus should always be first and foremost in EVERYTHING that we do and Christian Academy does that in their academics, administration, events, sports, and everything else God leads this amazing school to do. There are no perfect schools to say the least BUT Christian Academy endeavors to be lead by, guided by and directed by the Spirit of God who IS PERFECT in Jesus name! I have experienced and witnessed up close how Christian Academy has taken steps over the many years for improvement, growth, and change where needed. Christian Academy is an accredited school and has a strong Christian based curriculum to help the students prepare and be ready for college and life thereafter. I can truly say that Christian Academy is a "City on a Hill" and a "Beacon of Light" to all seeking a school who is not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and who seeks a school that will help children be educated both academically and spiritually through the truth of God's Word. I hope it has changed. But my experiences at Christian Academy in Japan was not great. Asian people are far too trusting. Especially when it comes to this kind of case like having our children at CAJ. I have nothing to do anymore with CAJ. I am happy and my kids are thriving at their new schools, and I am thankful for all happened that we are not at a much better place. God has worked amazingly for us that includes our nightmares at CAJ ( sorry). I am guilty if I am quiet though. Just thinking of parents and students there. I am not asking that CAJ teachers must be replaced. I know it is their whole life there for them and most of them would not have any other places to go. At least, some sorts of parents and students advocacy system would help if CAJ is truly to shine the light of God amongst non-believers. read more

I've waited in hopes that this school would get it together. My daughter is 5yo and type 1 diabetic. The staff there refuses to comply with federal law and provide reasonable accommodations for her. The principal here Rebecca Furuhashi is the most insensitive, unethical, hypocritical I have ever met. She has given the staff directive to not help my daughter with counting carbohydrates. Apparently this takes too much time and effort from the staff to help my kid. My daughter's emergency med bag is kept upstairs from where her kindergarten class is. They refuse to allow her to keep in in her cubby. Did I mention the word Emergency?! The staff here were educated in August and I was assured they would get a registered nurse, obviously not the case. Her A1C has gone up consistently over the last 7 months and it is a direct result of the inadequate staff and poor leadership from the principal. I'm pretty sure Jesus say's take care of the sick. Not take advantage of people's hard earned money. There are many many more instances of poor staffing decisions. A few weeks ago my daughter dropped her glucose monitor. That receiver is extremely important and I thought deemed a phone call to the emergency number. The sun was going down and time wasn't on our side. I called, got the pastor on the phone, told him exactly where she was last playing and if he could please go and look before the sun went down. He said he was in a meeting and wasn't able to help me. Why is this number listed as the emergency number? And what was he really doing that he couldn't walk outside and look before the sun went down? This school is money hungry and has absolutely no regard for the health and safety of anyone but themselves. I really wish we weren't told false promises, but what really sucks is that we are financially committed to this hole of a school until May 24. I hope the staff here sleeps well at night knowing that you continue to dis-obey God's word and everyday that my kid has to come here, you contribute to the big lack of the health and safety for my daughter. Shame on all of you! I would give this school negative stars if i could, but 1 star reflects my kid being a straight A student. By no means any credit given to the staff. read more

I spent a good portion of my school years at Christian Academy. In fact, had things gone off without a hitch I'd have probably graduated from here as well. But things didn't, and I can't say that I'm all too regretful especially when I think about the thousands of dollars my parents wasted on this place in order to give their daughter a "good education." If you're looking to place your child in a good private school, Christian Academy is not the place you're looking for. That is, unless you wish to train your child to become an arrogant, narrow-minded, overindulged imbecile. Take it from someone who has been there and done that, and paid more than her fair share of reparation for it. I cannot stress enough how there is too much focus on Christianity and not enough on the actual academics; it's a wonder why parents are even paying at all when all their kids are being taught is that Jesus is the way, and the rest of the world will eventually burn in hell with Satan (a lesson taught for free at Sunday school FYI) unless converted. Sure, it's a great lesson--if you're into that sort of thing--but there's a right time and place folks, and a school is a school for a reason, even if it's closely affiliated to a church. But perhaps the worst damage is the fact that they don't practice what they preach. It's preposterous how they teach the Ten Commandments, the Beattitudes, and all of these other Biblical principles, when the moment they turn around, they are gossiping about students and their family situations, or treating people they consider beneath them like dirt. Or better yet, telling people what they're doing wrong to have caused certain predicaments or circumstances. Perfect example was when I was in my freshmen (and final) year at Christian Academy and had been going through a rough time both physically and mentally, and had missed so many days that my mother had asked to meet with the principal in order to see what my options were. Instead of listening or even taking into consideration what had been going on, the principal proceeded to ignore my mother and randomly asked whether or not I'd been praying every day. I'd replied with a no, because at that point and time, I'd not had a relationship with our dear Lord and Heavenly Father for quite some time. We were separated if you will. In any case, I don't know what I'd expected as a response but it was anything but this: "The reason you're sick is because you don't pray enough." I'm sorry, but regardless of whether you're part of a religion, professionally, that was the wrong thing to say. It just goes to show how they can't even comprehend that they've overstepped their boundaries because they don't consider themselves to ever be in the wrong. So instead of an apology, the principal had told us that we'd needed to leave because she had another appointment coming in and should consider transferring to another school. And that's exactly what I did. I learned more in the short time I was at Kalani High School than I ever did at Christian Academy. I became both more aware and much more respectful of the choices and lifestyles others had chosen even though perhaps they were not things I'd consider for myself. My best friend was even gay, and he was one of the nicest people I'd ever met. If it weren't for him, I don't know how I would have been able to adjust to Kalani. He was just one out of many that I'd had the opportunity to meet at the high school, and each and every one of them have impacted me in ways that I'd otherwise would not have even bothered to regard. This would have never occurred had I not been more or less asked to leave C.A. The bottom line is that if Christian Academy understood that it's possible to have differences without being disrespectful or condescending, the school would be much better off. Before teaching your kids to become good Christians, you should consider teaching them how to be decent human beings. read more

I am writing this "review" for the parents that are thinking about enrolling their child or children. READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO ANY FURTHER. In mid May 2018, I contacted Christian Academy to ask about enrollment information. I was directed to download information/application from their web site, so I did, I completed application for admission, emailed it, and dropped off the original on May 22nd @ their admin office, I also gave them a $50 non-refundable check for administrative processing fees. On May 24, 2018, I received a letter granting admission of my grandson. In that letter it stated a "$250 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT" is needed by June 14th to secure a space in their program. It went on to say, "the deposit will be refunded upon completion of the preschool program less early withdrawal fees applicable." I gave them a $250 check on May 29th. NOTE: On the instructions for application for admission, in the section of Notification and Other Enrollment Information, it ALSO states that, "if an applicant is accepted, a deposit of $250 is due immediately in order to hold the applicants space. This deposit is fully refundable upon leaving Christian Academy Preschool if all accounts are current. (In cases of early withdrawal, only $200 will be refunded if 30 days' written notice is given.) Start date for preschool was to be August 13, 2018, On July 10th I phoned and left a message w/the woman that I had been helping me throughout the process and, I sent her an emailed to let them know my grandson was not going to be attending Christian Academy, and if she, (who shall remain nameless) could give me direction as to what to do next. My email went unanswered. I called AGAIN, a week later, and actually got her, "she" said, "didn't you get my email?" I received noting, there was no response to my email. She then told me they needed a letter from my grandsons mom telling Christian Academy my grandson was not going to attend the 2018-2019 school year. I emailed the letter to Christian Academy on July 17, 2018. Still, nothing from the Academy, until I went to the admissions office, on July 23rd. When I got there, I asked the admissions clerk, ( I gave that clerk both of my checks) if I could speak with her, (still nameless) about my $250 deposit. The clerk then phoned the woman and passed the phone to me. I asked her how do I go about getting back my deposit, she said, "it's a non-refundable deposit cause it was used to hold a spot for your grandson." There is nothing in the forms stating ANYTHING about the $250 being non-refundable. So in the application what does, "This deposit is fully refundable upon leaving Christian Academy Preschool if in cases of early withdrawal, only $200 will be refundable if 30 days' written notice is given" mean??? I sent an email to "her" (nameless) about early withdrawal July 10, 2018, sent the letter the she requested, from my grandson's mom, July 17, 2018. Preschool classes were to start August 13, 2018. Remember now, getting through the admissions part for my grandson was very quick, and efficient. Emails were responded to as soon as I sent them, especially because we had a scholarship, and payments were going directly to the Academy. Now, trying to get my deposit back is not going to happen? If you go to their web site it says, "There are usually more qualified applicants than space." So I know, the "$250 to hold the applicant's space" did not cause another student/child to be turned away because of availability. There's also a banner @ the entrance of Christian Academy that says, "We are still accepting applicants for preschool." I just drove by there yesterday, July 30, 2018 and saw it. So, I ask AGAIN, why am I not getting my REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT back? This is the first time I have ever encountered a business that says one thing, IN WRITING, and does exactly the opposite. Kind of like the "bait and switch" act. Everything is all good until, the business has to return the "REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT." If someone from the Academy is reading this, (which if I had a business, I would have on staff checking any and all sites that had reviews of businesses) and want to contact me, please do. Now I know and, have stated this, in the future, Christian Academy WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED as a school of choice. Rebekah L thank you for sharing your story, it makes my decision easier to live with. BTW, how can part of Christian Academy's mission statement be, "a mind for truth and a heart for God" when this kind of thing happens? I wonder if this happens often? A heart for God? This school is my alma mater, and while as aforementioned in the other reviews, no school is perfect, there are a lot of good aspects about this school. The faculty and staff here truly love the Lord and care about the students, and I have grown a lot in my years attending here. I have made lifelong friends, established warm relationships, and I have also learned that God is truly good. When I was in school, to be honest, I didn't realize the impact that going here could have. I also realize that the criticisms given to the students (especially my class) were done in love, and they were meant to help us, not harm us. Christian Academy is located in the First Assembly of God church on Red Hill, next door to Kaiser Hospital. It is tiny, not many people know the church houses a school. There are about (I'm estimating) 200 students from the preschool to the senior class. The school is very clever about utilizing rooms, and even has small classrooms downstairs, also. The facilities are beautiful, the courtyard has a fountain, tables, chairs and is air-conditioned inside. There are 2 rooms used as the cafeterias, one is upstairs and the other is downstairs. When your child first signs up at the beginning of the year, they send you a uniform catalog. The uniform consists of a polo shirt with the school's logo, and for girls, a pleated skirt is worn, and for boys, tailored pants are worn. Your child also has choices on a variety of colors for their polo shirts, and I recommend they have at least one of each color. They have choices where you can also order a jacket, and as aforementioned, the facilities are air-conditioned, so I highly recommend you purchase a jacket from the company too. The facilities are also closely-monitored. The First Assembly of God church, and also Christian Academy itself monitors who enters and leaves the premise. I think compared to public schools, and even other larger schools, where it is harder to do this, this makes one feel very safe and secure. As far as the classes go, they are the same as a regular school, with your college-required math courses, English courses, history courses and economics classes. So that's why, I'm not sure what the other reviews mean by "the students are not properly taught and prepared for college." In fact, most of my highschool classmates are VERY successful people right now. You also have a Bible class, and the students are required to attend a Chapel once a week (the same as other religious-based private schools.) The Chapel is a good thing to have, it's like churchtime, and it does help one grow and it is very powerful. Altar calls are done, and it allows you to reflect on yourself and be able to get a bit closer to God. Also, aside from Project Graduation, the seniors are treated to a "senior trip" at the end of the year. This is a kind gesture from the staff, that not many other schools do. Looking back, I am very appreciative that the teachers and parents took their time to organize that for us. The tuition is not high here, either. If you're looking for your child to have an education that is based in the Lord, and also to have teachers who do their best to make sure your child grows up to be a well-rounded individual (one thing about here is that the teachers genuinely care. Your child is also THEIR child, and all of them are always open to talk and pray with you, if you have anything weighing on your mind). I have a lot of classmates who are resentful of attending here, and I may get criticism for this review. But as a Yelp Elite, I am honest. And this is my honest assessment of my Alma Mater. But I want to reiterate: Nobody is perfect, everybody is human. People make mistakes. However, everybody truly loves God, and will do everything in their power to uphold that. In a world where everything is becoming so upside down, wrong is right and truth is so distorted, it is absolutely wonderful to find a christian school that has its priorities correct; wisdom first and than knowledge! You do not send your child(ren) to a Christ loving school (after all, that is the definition of a true christian school correct?) and expect for God and His ways to be last on the curriculum. Absolutely not! If this is the kind of christian school you are seeking for your family, than Christian Academy may not be your best fit. This is our families second year at Christian Academy and words cannot express our gratitude to everyone there; for the love and individual attention that is given to our son. We value a strong biblical foundation, which is the reason we chose Christian Academy. Our son is growing in his relationship with God and is excelling academically far beyond our expectations. As parents, we are growing and being challenged spiritually & academically through activities like chapel, the various community outreach events, and of course those at home questions & discussions that we have to research on the internet. CA is an extension of our family; the teachers, staff, and even the parents. The care that circles around just makes for a safe and loving environment. Financially, private schools are expensive. Academically, any good school will strive to stay competitive. The difference with a true christian private school is the level of reverence and love for God as well as the leading of His Holy Spirit. Based on these three, I would highly recommend Christian Academy Red Hill. Please however, just don't take my recommendation or become disheartened from other reviews, do your research. Find out the number of graduates that go on to college or service related outreaches; stop by the school, take a tour, sit in on a class; and/or better yet, attend one of the three services at First Assembly of God Red Hill and experience the root of Christian Academy. I cannot stress enough, that if you are looking for a solid biblical based education and a competitive academic curriculum for your child(ren), Christian Academy is it. read more

This school earned its full ACSI and WASC Accreditation and I had the opportunity to give parent feedback to the oversight committee when the school was seeking its accreditation which I would like to also pass along in this review. As a parent, when paying for private Christian schooling, I expect the following: solid education based on a Biblical foundation, exceptional dedication of teachers and staff, a safe place & healthy environment for a child to flourish in, and a school vision for continual growth. No school is perfect and every school has its strengths and weaknesses but I feel that this school has dedicated itself to fulfilling these areas and more and as a result have met my personal expectations. The school desires to leave a legacy in the lives of its students to go out and impact the world. I have seen this legacy being formed in my own children's lives who have attended this school and have graduated from it. They were taught to strive for excellence and show integrity in all that they did, encouraged to build Godly character by their teachers and coaches, all while being prepared for college. In particular, Junior Year Oration and Senior Year Thesis challenged them in thoroughly researching topics, effectively presenting an opinion, and being able to debate and defend their stance. Yearly one-week Missions Trips to outer islands to serve the communities helped shape an understanding of the importance of going out and making a difference in the lives of others. Participating in Athletics, Media, Robotics, Band, Chorus, Art as well as Student Government have all additionally contributed to the legacy and impact of attending this school. But if you were to ask my kids, they mostly have been positively impacted by the relationships and strong friendships formed while attending this school. And importantly for me, in a school that provided a safe, healthy environment (no bullying tolerated of any kind) and that gave me peace of mind. It is disappointing to read bad comments about Christian Academy because I know for a fact that this school is wonderful if you are a "true" Christian - that is - someone who does not fear to stand up for God's righteousness. True Christians never HATE. Christians do NOT hate gay people. We actually love them. But we cannot say that being gay is "Right" because the Bible clearly states that homosexuality is a sin. Therefore we HATE the sin, but we LOVE the person who is gay. I hope that makes sense. I am sorry that Moira had a bad experience at Christian Academy but you have to know that she probably had a deep scar in her heart that made her write these negative thoughts. I pray that God will heal her broken heart. The Principal at Christian Academy is awesome. I highly respect her from my heart and so do many many other parents.
