I have sent Chris many texts and called many times since my last review on 6/27. He still will not answer me. I am imploring him to do the right thing by me, either refund my $350 or get me a working laptop, but he will not respond. Don't take your computer to this guy!!! He took $350 from me and I still have no computer- he returned it 'fixed' to me three times, and each time it was still broken. After I took it back to him the last time, he has not returned it. I'm going to be honest: I did not find Chris through Yelp. I met Chris Castro at a bar. If you're not a barfly like me, though, don't let that sway your opinion of him. Up until last year, I had been using the same, archaic G5 since 2004. 10 stinking years!! That is like the computer equivalent of one of those little Japanese ladies who live to be 130. Anyway, it was time to join the human race and streamline my technical life (and free up a shit load of space on my desk) so I called up Chris Castro. Chris helped me back up 10 years worth of data, files, and smut, and helped me set up a new laptop. (Well, new for me.) Now, my iPhone, my Wifi, and my computer all run smoothly and communicate with each other like they're supposed to. He even found someone who wanted to buy my old G5! I believe it is now living out it's golden years in someone's recording studio. Let's face it... we all constantly use computers, but most people (myself included) know nothing about them. I wrote a 5/5 review the first time I brought my computer in. He fixed it quickly for an affordable price. But the Last time was a disaster. I asked him to do a few things and it was during finals week, so I told him I really needed to be in communication as to when my computer would be ready. He was very unreliable about picking up phone and answering text messages. Finally I picked my computer and it wasn't fixed. I brought back into him and picked up again (again, having a very hard time getting a hold of him while he had my equipment). I picked it up again, and problem was still not fixed. I just took my computer to a PC repair shop and they told me the computer is shutting down because the fan isn't working (this was the original issue I brought to him, and returned after still having problems). So that is twice he gave back with problem not fixed. It is going to be more expensive to fix at this other place, but at least they will actually fix it, and because it is an actual business, I can depend on getting my calls and questions answered during business hours. Chris Castro is a stand-up guy. It may feel a little weird giving your computer over to some guy working out of a duplex in the middle of the night, like I did, but rest assured, you're in good hands. I had a computer emergency - hard drive crash - the night before a big deadline and my friend found Chris on Yelp, saw the good reviews and said, "what have you got to lose?" Wary of driving to Los Feliz and dropping off my computer to a complete stranger at 10pm in the evening, I had no choice. Now, reverse that scenario for a minute: Chris is a computer repair technician and he takes calls at 9pm at night and says, "Yes, bring it in, I'll work on it overnight for you." Who does that??? And for a decent price??? Chris did his best, confirmed my drive was unrecoverable, popped in a new drive, got my data from my backup drive, reinstalled everything and only charged me 70% of what Mac Enthusiasts would've for the same job. And yes, he took my texts at all hours. I'm grateful someone like this exists. I still kind of can't believe he's real. Seriously, who does this??? read more

I would love to give 5 stars, unfortunately I cannot. I dropped my 2011 Macbook on a hardwood floor. I instantly had problems with the screen. I checked Yelp and saw he had awesome reviews! I took my Macbook to Chris, he said he would be able to fix it no doubt and would look over it before doing any work. First if all, when you go to this place it is NOT a business location, it is out of his apartment with many pets. Not what I was expecting. He contacted me saying the parts and labor would be $210. And would have it fixed in the next 3 days. I was so happy he could repair my Macbook and $210 seemed very reasonable. A few days after the first call about parts and labor, Chris said he found something wrong with the hard drive and the total would now be around $300. I was ok with that also. When my Macbook was "ready" I went to pick it up but Chris was not there. He called his assistant to do the work for him. My macbook was NOT ready and I waited 30mins before I could leave with it. When I got home and used my Macbook, I found the webcam did not work. This was odd because it was nothing wrong with it before. I emailed Chris, he had no problem with me bringing it back. Chris was able to fix it and said it would be ready on memorial day for pick up. I emailed him asking if 11:30am would be a good time to pick it up. I got no response, showed up anyway hoping at least his assistant would be there, I was wrong! No email, or call. He did not answer my calls. I was VERY disappointed neither the less. If I ever have more problems, I will go to someone more professional. Sorry Chris. read more

I feel weird being the only poor review, but I can't lie when I say Chris Castro had the absolute WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I will give him credit for his knowledge of computers and his low prices, but nothing along those lines could compensate for how he dealt with me as a customer. What I mean by terrible customer service: He rarely answered when I called him to check up on my laptop, let alone hardly ever called me back. I literally had to call multiple times and leave multiple messages before I would finally hear from him. And then when I would finally speak to him, there would be some other reason why my computer wasn't ready yet. He'll say that he will text you, but HE WON'T. You seriously have to nag the shit out of him to get a response. Another reason why I will never go back to him: It's been a month since I dropped my laptop off at his place and it will supposedly be ready tonight or tomorrow. I am a college student currently studying on the quarter system, so a month to me is almost half a term. I gave it to him halfway through, and here it is finals week in less than 5 days and I'm still without a laptop. Did he offer me compensation for the horrid service and extensive wait? NO! He didn't discount the price at all. He did say he could possibly deliver the laptop, but that is still to be heard. The night of. Bullshit. But wait, in addition to providing this service, which is what I'd expect according to the Yelp reviews, my 6 year old computer is now performing faster and more powerful than ever before. In the confusion that often results when moving things from one drive to another, I accidentally deleted footage from an entire "yet-to-be-edited" short film I shot. Shock. Disbelief. There was some crying and self-hatred involved. I brought the drive to Chris, a super friendly guy with a nice fluffy dog. It's a bad feeling when your hard drive crashes. Super stressful. If you were like me, scouring the Yelp ads in a panic hoping to find the right guy to help you, this is the guy. Chris is super reasonable, super knowledgeable, has a great attitude, and he gets it fixed really quickly. Chris recovered the documents I thought I had lost, replaced my hard drive and did it for an affordable price at a time when I sorely need an affordable price. Wow. Just wow. Talk about a good deal . I had an old, virused out computer that I was going to junk since most of the other repair places were quoting me prices that were equal to or greater than what the thing was worth. Lucky for me, I came across Chris' yelp review and thought I'd at least ask him what he'd charge for fixing it. When he responded (very promptly, I might add) the price he quoted me was significantly lower than what anyone else had told me, so I decided to give him a shot even though it sounded to good to be true. Well, it wasn't. I brought it to him and he fixed it, while I waited, and we had a nice time just shooting the breeze In about 30 minutes time, he fixed my computer, added more stuff than he'd promised, and gave me tips on how to have it working smoother in the future. It was such a great experience that I almost didn't want to leave. What can I say, he was a cool dude. Get home and crank it up and I'll be damned if the thing isn't working better than it ever had in the two years I'd had it (I bought it used online) in every conceivable way. I went from the prospect of throwing this thing out and having to buy a new one to having what basically feels like a new computer. Score! Seriously, I'm not a computer expert by any means, but this guy worked a miracle with those old, diseased laptop of mine. I took a drive that I needed vital data recovery performed on to another recovery center and they kept it for 2 weeks, charged me a lot of money and then gave it back telling me that it was unrecoverable. I then took it to Chris Castro and he had my data recovered in 72 hours. Wow! Data Recovery is a risky thing with no guarantees. Chris is obviously very good at it. However, if the data gods had worked against him and all my data would have turned out to have been totally friend before he even saw it, I would still give him a 5-star review because his customer service was top notch. Something rare and priceless in the IT world. He communicated with me through the whole process, was honest, understanding, respectful and direct the whole way. I don't write many reviews, but I have to share my experience here. Chris resolved one or two computer issues for me in the past with great service. However, earlier this year he replaced my malfunctioning hard drive and was supposed to recover all of the data first (hundreds of pictures over many years that I of course wanted to keep). The hard drive was replaced, but the data was not recovered despite several attempts to contact Chris about it. The computer has failed again, which may or may not be related to Chris' work, but his losing of my data and terrible customer service and responsiveness afterwards is unacceptable. At the very least he could have given me a discount or refund and I would have continued to do business with him. By the way, if you have lots of pictures or music on your hard drive, be sure to upload it in case your computer fails. Wish I had done that sooner. read more
