The museum has a ramp or stairs in the front to get to the entrance. The museum is large and is on two levels and covers all 13 of the Albemarle counties. (Northampton; Hertford; Dare; Bertie; Gates; Perquimans; Chowan; Pasquotank; Camden; Currituck; Washington; Tyrell; and Hyde), pretty much all of the northeast corner of the state. You can take the stairs up to the second level for a better look at the shad boat and quilts or use the elevator. Restrooms are located on both levels. The first floor had some traveling exhibits and the gift shop. The second floor had the permanent exhibits with the history of the area. I liked that the museum covered so many topics from the beginning to different periods of time from when Native Americans were in the region to the slavery and the Underground Railroad, Railroads; Automobiles; Firefighting; Farming; the World Wars and the Civil War; Civil Rights; the Vietnam War; the Coast Guard; different industries and tourism. The museum has many artifacts and information boards to read. The waterfowl exhibit with the bird decoys was great and showed the details of the carvings. The floating theatre inspired Show Boat. Hannah Crafts was inspiring. This museum showcases the importance of the Albemarle Sound and the region and they did a great job of preserving history and stories for future generations. I highly recommend visiting this wonderful museum.

The couple that owns this store are extremely friendly as well. The only drawback is that the owners often go on vacation, so the store might not be open as advertised. There also doesn't seem to be a huge demand for consignment shops in Ahoskie, so the merchandise doesn't change all that frequently. That being said, the owners have always been willing to negotiate the prices of pieces they've had for a while. Though there isn't any specific mark-down system based on time, they're extremely fair in their pricing. Be sure to check out the $1 and half-off racks located in the front of the store. I've found some nice brands in these places! My favorite purchase was a brand new Jones New York dress (retail value of $160) for $27! If you're in Ahoskie and love to shop, this place is definitely worth visiting!

The Camden County Heritage Museum & Historic Jail are a great places to visit to learn about…read moreCamden's history. I discovered the museum in my quest to visit every county in the state. This museum more than delivered. The museum and jail are located in the same area as the courthouse; parks and recreation and election office. So find a parking space and then look for the open flag at the jail. Although your visit starts at the museum which is across from the jail. Admission to the museums are free. I would have left a donation but did not see a box for that. I was warmly greeted when I arrived and told that this was a small museum. The museum offers self guided tours but I was given a guided tour likely because I knew nothing about the area. Having been to a lot of museums, this museum is actually a pretty good sized museum. I liked that the museum was in chronological order starting with when the town began in 1777. I learned that the town was named after Sir Charles Pratt who was the Earl of Camden. The detailed story boards in the museum as well as all the artifacts in the case bring the history of this coastal town to life. I was told that many of the artifacts are on loan to the museum. The museum covers the Colonial War; Revolutionary War; Civil War; WWI and WW2. The museum also covers the ferries; Great Dismal Swamp; the schools. I learned that Camden County was the last county in the state to have a library and that. Another neat fact I learned was the NASCAR connection to moonshine by evading authorities to move alcohol. Moses Grandy became a well known abolitionist after gaining freedom. He was a water man and purchased his freedom twice but got cheated by owners twice. After he got freedom, he emancipated more family members. The current jail is the third and that was built in 1910 and was used until 1940. There are 4 jail cells on the 2nd floor and a small museum is up there too. The first jail was used until 1880. Then a 2nd jail was built, it burned after prisoners started a fire to try and escape. But they were unable to get out of the building and needed the key from the sheriff, who got there just in time. If you are a history buff, Camden County is rich in history and the museums offer a great place to explore it.

This is quickly becoming one my my wife and Is favorite courses to play! We live about an hour…read morenorth in Chesapeake, but make the trip once every month or so to play here (plus we just love edenton). The course is always in great condition, wide open and houses are never in play. It's fairly narrow, with a few tricky shots over water. Staff is always friendly and we have never had to wait behind someone to play here, it's always very slow which takes away the pressure! 10/10 recommend this course!
