So that made me wish I lived a little closer. When I entered I was immediately greeted and asked where I was from and that led to other conversations as she was familiar with my area. I was even given recommendations of places to stop and dine. I was not pressured to but anything but so much caught my eye. I saw new art every time I turned in the gallery. I did limit myself to just two items but I can see myself returning either this trip or on a future visit to the area.

Then we sat in on 12 min film on estuaries.. then self guided tour .. for $5 it's worth price of admission . Lots of rooms to go thru.. live animals like snake , crab, alligator to see.. and you can walk outside on the deck see beauty of the waterfront area. The North Carolina Estuarium is located in Downtown Washington, NC. It is the first estuarium in…read morethe world and focuses on the environment. The NC Estuarium offers ferry rides on the Tar and Pamlico Rivers at various times during the year. I really enjoy the rides as you might see some wildlife besides the plant life. The captain provide fun facts along the way too. The museum is 12,500 square foot and serves as an education center. It provides a great overview of the estuaries and coastal rivers which are an important part of the ecosystem where fresh water and salt water mix. 90% of NC seafood comes from estuaries. We need to keep these waterways clean. In the lobby the display is large and shows the different parts of North Carolina. The NC Esturium is part museum and part aquarium. The aquarium focuses just on estuary species. It has over 200 exhibits and a lot are hands on. The part about the hurricanes was informative and showed the damage done from the rising sea levels. I highly recommend visiting this unique museum.

I had been curious about Turnage Theater and saw there were two performances when I was in town…read more But both were during the Final Four basketball games so I couldn't miss those. I saw on the website that tours were offered by appointment so I decided to see if the building was open. It was, so I asked if I could look around as I love old theaters and I was told I could. Turnage Theater opened in 1972 and now has live performances, movies and also is an art gallery. The building was built in 1913 and was a bakery and a shoe store and had Vaudeville theatre on the second floor. I didn't venture on the second floor but I did enjoy the memorabilia in the lobby and went into the first floor theater. I was told about the tale of Roy Rogers riding his house Trigger up the stairs to get to the auditorium and how about 50% say it happened and another 50% say it didn't. There is even a sign about this on the street. I am excited to see a performance here the next time I am in town.
