My husband & I ordered food through Doordash last night and we loved everything. We got the Idly vadai combo, Dosai and Chicken Biryani with my favorites being sambar served with the tiffin items and Chicken Biryani. Idlies were spongy soft while still warm, the vadai was crispy and the side accomplishments complimented them very well. Chicken Biryani was so flavorful with the meat being so tender and tasted homemade. We opted for the less oily version of Dosai and it didn't disappoint either. Food was very warm and got delivered in less than 30 minutes. Prices were very affordable as well. They ran out of rose milk but rather than cancelling that, they replaced it with mango lassi which was considerate of them. I definitely recommend this spot for all the above food items. read more

Went here for the first time. All of us got Dosa's, Rava onion dosa, masala Dosa tasted great. They give you a choice of Ghee or oil for making the Dosa. The dosa, sambhar, chutney were all great tasting. Very authentic, just right amount of spicy. The masala separate for Rava Dosa was good. The place is reasonably priced. The young ladies taking the order were very polite. Self service tons of place to sit and good service. Oh almost forgot they have beet halva, which was a surprise, very tasty. I went to Chopathi some years ago. I think they had just opened. Not much has changed. I don't know the region where the food comes from but I do know that I liked my food. Most of the other clientele were from South Asia. So, I think that's a good sign about authenticity. The portion sizes were great! I actually had leftovers. And the prices were very reasonable. Last time, I got the Jackfruit biryani, which was full of flavor. This time, there was no jackfruit. I got the mutton biryani and it was good too. There were bones in it, though. So, beware! I drive past this location nearly everyday with the intention of giving them a try. You cane smells the aroma coming from the building from a simple drive by. While visiting with my mother on Saturday, I decided to order some samosas to hold me over until I made it home. This was an AWESOME choice! The samosas were huge and filled with tasty goodness. I was happy to learn they didn't just contain meat, the peas were a welcomed addition. They had just the right amount of spice and the brown sauce was sweet which knocked off just enough heat! I'm super glad I stopped by Chopathi to try their dosa. There were a few tables of Indian folks having dinner and more came in after I arrived so I took that as a good sign. I was greeted with a smile when I placed my order at the counter. As others have mentioned, it's cafeteria style right down to the tray, disposable utensils and plates. I ordered masala dosa, masala chai and ras malai to eat in. They call your name when your order is ready and you pick up your tray at the counter. The dosa was massive and had ample filling and was nicely crunchy. The coconut chutney was a little different than I'm used to and had a definite peanut flavour. I thought it peculiar that tamarind chutney arrived along side it but it worked and everything was well spiced and delicious. My ras malai was a lovely finish and the masala chai was perfect for the chilly evening. The masala chai comes unsweetened and I asked for regular sugar as all they had out were artificial sweetener packets. I used the teaspoon of sugar they gave me but then added the leftover sweetened milk from the ras malai which pushed it over the top. My meal left me feeling full and satisfied. Definitely a hidden gem! This place has great value for its prices! You know it's authentic Indian food (southern indian) when most the clientele is Indian. So note that this is Southern Indian food, and it doesn't have some of the more popular/well known indian dishes (like chicken tikka, butter chicken). However, it is delicious! Husband and I have been in store twice and ordered take out once! This place is a fast-casual type restaurant. The biryani is amazing and so much food! We've tried both the mutton and the chicken (bone in) and both meats are so tender and moist and fall off the bone! The biryani comes with yogurt and another sauce. Apollo fish - was delicious. The fish was flakey and moist (although was a little more bland compared to the chili chicken. Chili Chicken was also delicious and flavorful. (Even medium spicy was pretty spicy for us) Came back and got the masala roti and the fish roti. Roti were warm and delicious. Roti masala is filled with potatoes, and the fish one, of course fish. They also come with a tamarind sauce and a peanut sauce. Something that hubby and I really really like is the paneer tikka masala. It's not a tomato-cream based sauce like chicken taika masala. It's more of nut-cream sauce. It's different from what we usually get and it's delicious! The paneer is also really good inside the sauce! Although you might think you'll finish everything, it gets filling pretty fast! The only note is that if you order any of the curries or the veg dishes - none of it comes with bread or rice, so we keep ordering biryani and roti to eat the sauces with. Chicken curry was also delicious and earthy. I can't quite remember, but different dishes come with some different sauces (roti for sure), and some dish comes with lentil soup/ sesame sauce. We end up ordering a lot of food, and having a lot of leftovers for later! Definitely wouldn't mind slowing making my way down to try everything on he menu! My only complaint is that the menu is not very friendly to people not familiar with Indian food. Most of these dishes were unfamiliar to me, and it was a bit of a struggle to figure out what things are and order food. Both times, honestly the people taking our order were not very helping when we were asking questions, and we had to resort to googling. When it comes to Indian restaurants, trust a picky Indian! I consider myself such. I actually was looking for a Dunkin' Donuts and stumbled upon this restaurant in the same strip mall. I had never heard of it. I popped in to grab a menu. The prices on the menu board looked fairly decent, including various vegetarian entrees such as idly, dosas, and vegetable curries and biryanis. There were a bunch of Indian people in football jerseys sitting at the bar. The dining area is spacious. The ceilings are high. The restaurant seemed unusually busier than what the small number of guests would have you believe. A lot of call-ahead and phone orders, some drop-in-and-take-out orders. I ordered a plain idly to go to suss out the place. I didn't know what to expect. My food took 20 minutes to be ready because of the harried and frenzied nature of the restaurant (employees rushing to answer call and fulfill orders at the expo, others entering and exiting from the back). The kitchen is partially exposed and visible from the dining room. A lot of the food is displayed in an assembly-line ordering fashion behind a glass sneeze guard like at a Chipotle or Cava Mezze Grill. The idly was packaged well and securely. The idly comprised two soft, consistent, white, flattened patties. It dashed my preconceived notion of what an idly is and what it "should" look like (more pillowy, more airy, and not as dense). The taste was very good with the sambhar, which was a deep brown-orange, full of fresh chopped veggies, and very spicy (I hadn't specified heat level). The sauces confused me. The dark brown one was very spicy but had a sweet aftertaste. The off-white, grainy one that looked like coconut chutney did not taste like coconut at all---it tasted like a peanut sauce. Great new Indian restaurant in Elkridge! One of the best things about this restaurant is that they offer couple of special food such as jackfruit biryani and special chutney. I am sure most of you wouldn't even have heard of jackfruit biryani. It's a vegetarian special dish. I have heard many vegetarians complain that there is hardly any choice for them when it's biryani. Kudos to this restaurant for bringing something new for the veggies which not only taste absolutely delicious but also the texture of it looks like meat biryani. So everyone who is craving to enjoy a good and unique vegetarian biryani should definitely check this out. I have been here couple of times and first thing I order is there jackfruit biryani over anything else even though I enjoy eating meat. Enough said about their special jackfruit biryani, it's time you guys check it out. My sister ordered catering service for her house warming ceremony from this place. Our guests enjoyed the food. Everything tasted very good. There was hardly anything left at the end of the party which is very rare as people often over order. This was my first time here and the food is definitely authentic. The lady that was taking my order wasn't very helpful even after I told her this was my first time there. She was more interested in talking to her co-worker. The lady that made my food was friendly along with the owners. I ordered the bowl which you chose a protein, carb, sauce and veggies. I will say I wasn't overly excited about the taste but it is definitely worth another visit in which I would try something else on the menu. The price was comparable to Chipotle bowls. The staff here is the first reason I would give this place a 5 star. They are so kind and punctual and follow up on things. We called and ordered earlier to be able to take a to go and catch a flight, abc they called to check our eta to make sure the food was hot enough for us to enjoy. My cousins baby shower was also hosted in the same venue last week and the food catered was great. I love the baby corn manchurian, bisi bele bath, pepper chicken, dosa, sambar and chat items here. Also, if you're stuck in the Arundel Mills area with few food options culturally.... This place is for you and only a hop skip away. Authentic flavors and amazing tastes. Were excited to go and taste the food at Chopathi but came out with the following impressions: Staff (6 boys and 2 girls - all college bound), two aunts, two uncles and occasionally one other person was popping out frequently all crowded in a corner. Poor aunts, were I guess preparing the food. It Looked like family owned road side idly/vada stall(s) on the highways of Telangana/Andhra Pradesh. These guys were inexperienced and did not have customer service training. Babai idli was supposed to be served with chili powder and butter on top, but was served with god knows what (some yellow powder) Kanchivaram idli was supposed to be made with vegetables, but hardly did I see any vegetables All idlis including the plain one were flat and very thin. The ginger (allam) chutney was a little spicy and tangy, but the peanut chutney (source of liability for peanut allergy) was OK, the serving size was so disproportionate that Sambar was served in the smallest of plastic cups. Dosa (plain, masala and ravva) were crisp but the batter was tasteless. Gobi Manchurian was crispy when served hot but became rock solid as the time elapsed. That means the flour used was too much. The funniest part was, multiple number of ginger chatni, peanut chatni and sambar cups were all arranged in the tray and brought over to the table. Usually, these chutneys and sambar are served with the idly/vada or dosa separately. No plates were provided to eat until asked and everything was served in paper plates instead of the traditional indian steel plates and bowls for chutney and sambar. The owner Mr. S........... came through once and inquired about the food and when told about the quantity of sambar given with these order, he supplemented some additional cups of sambar. Traditionally the sambar is supposed to be a thick soup of boiled vegetable and i did not that, b'cos it was diluted. The Franchisee definitely needs some corporate level training in business management including the personal, quality of food, cleanliness of the restaurant and staff training on how to greet the customers and handle the food and how to serve. Did NOT get the vibe which we were so excited about. I hope and pray that the management of this restaurant takes these constructive critiques to enhance and improve their services. Really disappointed with Chopati! Before covid I used to visit this place frequently and loved their Mutton Biryani. Better than Paradise Biryani Point. Did not get a chance to visit them during covid and finally went back on Sunday. Ordered Mutton Biryani and Veg Biryani for take out. Came home and was really excited to have Chopati food after more than an year. As soon as we opened the lid, we knew the food was going to taste bad. The rice looked terrible. Almost spoiled. Rice from 3 or 4 days ago. The consistency was not the same. And the taste! Oh my God. It was terrible. A novice would make better biryani than this. It was as if they asked someone walking on the street to wip up something. All they did was use rice that was cooked a while ago and add raw masala powders to it and put it in the to go box. Not sure if the chef changed or the management changed.. But you can see the carelessness towards the food that is being given to customers. The food was ready in less than 5 minutes, which means it's sitting in the back under a heat lamp. Definitely tasted like it was just sitting back there for a while. Went here for dinner with a bunch of friends. Heard great things about the biryanis here and they definitely lived up to the hype. Ordered chicken and mutton biryanis. They are so well cooked that the meat melts right in your mouth. They had the right amount of spices and flavors. Easily some of the best I ever tried. Raitas that accompanied were sweet and perfectly complimented the biryanis. Also tried their kanchipuram and babai hotel idlies which were delicious! Chopathi is a fast casual Indian restaurant, food made my Indians FOR Indians. The taste is authentic and exquisite (even North Indian paneer masala) is different than your run of the mill Indian restaurant, the flavor was amazing and more accustomed to what I am used to, my favorite food is North Indian food made by South Indians (like back home in Karnataka!). The shrimp fry is like how my mom makes it. I did dock 1 star because there are many items listed on the menu which they no longer serve. (Chicken Wings, Wraps, etc). The menu looks like a Microsoft word document on a display... they could easily change it but they don't. Also there's a bar here... but disposable utensils and a fast casual feel so not sure what they are going for... I don't mind because the food is excellent! I also found it odd that rice or chapathi doesn't come with any of the curries and needs to be purchased separately... usually paneer tikka masala comes with rice! read more

Ordered curry chick peas - very very firm - just ok Ordered curry chicken - surprised to find a drumstick ?!?!! Seems like they just cut up random pieces of chicken (neck, back, etc). I have had the Curry Mutton with basmati rice multiple times from here and it is absolutely delicious. The flavors are well developed and it has a nice kick to it. It was prepared as I waited and didn't take long. It costed about $13 for that particular dish and the other menu items are reasonably priced as well. The establishment appears clean and it's spacious with lots of seating. I've never dined in however there's a full bar and TVs. All interactions with the staff have been pleasant. Today was my first visit since the pandemic and wow was I disappointed. You can no longer build your own bowl. Now it's pretty much biryani or curry with a couple of daily dishes. I agree with a previous reviewer that the food is way too spicy. I ordered mild chicken biryani. It was so spicy as to be almost inedible for my palette. I have a sensitive stomach and boy did I pay the price two hours later. I used to really enjoy this place. However, the original comcept for this restaurant has vanished. It was dirty and unkept. This is a delightful healthy eating alternative. For lack of a better comparison consider it the Indian Chipotle. You can create fresh nutritious bowls for a reasonable price.
