This chocolatier located in the heart of Taos is something I wish had existed in the very neighborhood in Denver. Adorable (well, everything is adorable in Taos; it's the southwestern charm for sure!) but it's more than what its appearance says it all. You have to try their products and see for yourself. What I got me were a few bon bons and a chocolate torte (the whiskey kind). -Miso Caramel: is shaped like a mushroom. Even if you might not be a fan of miso based (everything), you should try these bon bons anyway as they don't taste like miso at all. I was quite shocked with this myself (well, I like miso soup; miso taste doesn't bother me at all. Even so, Miso chocolate candy was something I didn't know what to expect out of. That is why I am saying that I was surprised by it.) -New Mexico , Spicy: was also surprising. The kick in these tiny pieces was quite mighty and yet it was tolerable. -Whisky Torte: All sorts of organic ingredients are used to make these delightful tortes. Tortes tend to be a lot heavier than traditional cakes as their texture is that of fudge. And yet, that shouldn't be a reason for you to steer clear from it as this chocolatier perfected the torte in a way that it will not be too rich or heavy for your taste or stomach. At least that is what I thought when I tasted it. Another must-try item on their menu offerings. For its interior, it's mostly and simply grey on walls but this emits the "chicness" that doesn't overshadow the theme of its business. You should also pay attention to the ceilings and the floors. A careful attention to entertain the guests' eyes is seen throughout. Service was good. I first went here late in the afternoon (close to its closing time). I quickly glanced at each section of the store inside. The kind gentleman upfront wanted to assist me but after asking him if it was open tomorrow (it would be Sunday), he said yes to which I gave him my promise that I would be back tomorrow. The same man assisted me when I was back the very next day to make a purchase. Not sure if he remembered me or not. It's not chocolate bon bons or tortes you can enjoy at this store. The café offers tasting trios, mocha, chocolate mouse, ice cream, affogato, hot chocolate, and espresso and so on. This is a haven for chocolate fanatics. read more

It's a cute little place. There are a few seats against the wall so you'll have to take advantage of the benches outside. They have an explanation of the bean to bar process of the cacao on the wall. They also have drawings on the ceiling of the cacao pods. They offer lots of chocolate bars, mousse, cakes, coffee, etc. I opted for their flourless cake. It was so good that I want to come back and get more and also try their other items. The staff were efficient so you didn't have to wait too long. I highly recommend this place. read more

I cannot even begin to describe how upset I was when my guy and I arrived to see that 3 of the sipping chocolates (all the ones I wanted to try) were sold out. I had been looking forward to this ALL day. We even arrived with 2.5 hours before closing time. They were out of Lavender, Golden, and Reishi. Because I don't like cinnamon or coffee flavors, this left one option for me, French, WHICH ISN'T EVEN CHOCOLATE!! My guy ended up trying 3 sipping chocolates and didn't think they were that good (they came out warm instead of hot). I picked 3 chocolate squares to try (Passion Fruit, Rosemary Olive Oil, and Lavender Caramel) and thought they were all average. We only tried their cakes (vegan olive oil and whiskey cake), and both were very good. The vegan cake was very moist, and oh so chocolatey. Husband said he could taste the whiskey, and he liked the cake too. It was too hot for drinking chocolate, but I bet it's amazing when it gets colder outside. If I could give a place 6 stars, I would! This is officially my favorite spot in all of New Mexico - at least in what limited area I've traveled to so far. Came here with some friends and were lucky to grab a table. It's small and cozy but definitely worth stopping by, or at least taking your sweets to-go. Parking can be challenging in Taos, so expect to walk a few blocks. I ordered a flight of sipping chocolate, including Aztec, New Mexico Spicy, Arabian, and Mayan. I liked them in that order. Definitely getting the first two again. Not as much of a fan of the last two. The Lemongrass Ginger Mousse and Goat Cheese Chocolate Cheesecake were both to die for. And there's local goods for sale! Visiting Taos in mid-September as part of my 70th Birthday vacation in NM we stumbled in Chokolá. My son who loves chocolates made in small handcrafted batches in local shops bought a selection for us to try. Wow, what a delicious treat, out of this world! Got a trio with an iced French chocolate, white chocolate mousse, and dark chocolate mousse. The mousse's were phenomenal, couldn't choose between them--get both! Tried my friends Dulce de leche, it was good but I liked the 2 I got better. The iced chocolate wasn't a great choice, not because of flavor, just the ice and chocolate didn't go for me. But I'm sure as a hot sipping chocolate it would have been excellent. An aside--I have a serious disease and am required to drink a crazy amount of water. It was hot out and I was out of water with nowhere public to fill my bottle. Even though he was busy as hell the guy working took the time to fill me up. He didn't know how important this is to me and he certainly could have refused but from one girl with polycystic kidney disease to a kind shop worker, thank you! I visited this shop many times on my three days in Taos. They have absolutely delicious whisky cake, hot chocolate, and the tiramisu brownie is the best brownie I've ever had. They had many variations of hot chocolate and chocolate mousse as well. I love their deep, dark chocolate concoctions. They had a delicious cookie I tried as well. The staff are patient and recommend options based on their customers' personal preferences. They also provide guidance on how to best enjoy their creations. To travelers who have yet to experience Chokola', I have two bits of advice: 1. Expect to stand in line for a bit. The staff take the time needed to ensure their customers have answers to their questions and make selections best suited to their tastes. 2. Don't ask for free samples. Trust that everything is fantastic because it is. This small business goes out of their way to serve their very best to their customers. No wonder this place has won awards! The quality of their chocolate is fantastic...and y'all know I know my chocolate! I literally visited two days in a row for their Aztec sipping chocolate, because they don't play around when it comes to sipping chocolate. On day two, I left with almost $50 worth of goodies, all consumed within the day because...again...y'all know my sweet tooth! Among those were a chocolate chip hazelnut cookie, trio with the Aztec (a delightful sipping chocolate steeped with 1:1 oat milk and cinnamon, and finished with their chocolate), Maya (I believe this one is water based), and chocolate mousse (the mousse was the real surprise here, the texture and rich, complex chocolate flavor were to die for). I also grabbed a truffle, and a mocha to go. This is not including the Aztec, Americano, and salted caramel tarte ordered on the first day. If I'm honest, I was not going to return after day one (no matter how fantastic the product) because service matters. I'm not sure they see many people like me (I mean, it's Taos, there aren't many of me), or if I rubbed someone the wrong way with my existence, but the service certainly reflected that something was off when it was my turn to order. Instead of being welcomed, I felt the team member helping me intentionally talked at or down to me when ordering. It was a stark contrast compared to how the two ladies before me were treated, and on top of that an immediate shift in behavior from this shop gentleman. This experience is the only reason I'm rating this place any less than 5 stars, and tbh, I almost didn't return. Luckily, the second day brought a much friendlier face (and as a result I spent more of my money satisfying that culinary sweet tooth of mine). That being said, I hope the gentleman I encountered on my first visit is not the owner (it wasn't Javier so I think not). No matter how amazing the product is, service matters. People matter. I'm honestly not sure if this was a case of disorganization or something deeper, but I left feeling very disappointed. I was passed over not once but three times. There was a couple ahead of me, so I waited patiently, but the cashier helped the next group--and then another--before acknowledging me. When I finally asked to try samples of the dulce de leche and coffee, I was only given the dulce de leche. Another staff member came from the back and again assisted a different couple who arrived after me. At that point, I couldn't help but wonder if I was being overlooked for a reason. Whether it was bias or just poor customer service, it didn't feel good to be ignored repeatedly. I ended up leaving the shop disappointed. Not sure if Taos just isn't used to non-white visitors, but the experience left me uneasy. I was the only non-white tourist in a very dead plaza and got passed over three times, even after waiting patiently. We stopped in for a pick-me-up after driving up from ABQ. The shop is very cute and has some indoor and outdoor seating available. The baristas were super friendly and happy to give some recommendations. We went with some of the mousse (chocolate & dulce), hazelnut cake, bonbons (ginger tumeric/pear ylang-ylang/rosemary olive oil sea salt caramel), a pistachio praline bar, and some espressos to pair. Everything was so amazing - the mousses had the perfect consistency and level of sweetness! The hazelnut cake had a yummy base and then topped with a hazelnut layer like the outer shell of a Ferrero Rocher (but way better)! The pistachio praline bar had a wonderful dark chocolate base and the praline wasn't too sweet - this paired so nicely with the espresso. We saved the bonbons for another day, but they held up nicely and were all delicious - my favorite was the rosemary olive oil sea salt caramel since they nailed the flavors profiles and it made for very well-balanced bites, but the pear ylang-ylang one also tasted like biting into a pear. All of the items are very thoughtfully crafted and I don't think you can make a bad selection here! I'd highly recommend stopping in for a nice treat! read more
