I would like to start with saying that we leased this apartment within a very short amount of time as we were pressed to find a new apartment when our other one fell through, and the staff at choice realty were very accommodating at getting us set up here in just one hour. That being said, on with the review:
Firstly, what the other review for Northern Manors says about noise, is super, super true. Not from the surrounding apartments as much as the surrounding rejected frat bro houses. Our apartment overlooks the backyard of 3 young virile male college students who insist on partying Friday night through Sunday morning, only stopping to vomit outside my window in the early morning hours. Seriously, the vomit is not a joke. I keep my windows closed on weekends because I have heard too many hungover people vomiting outside my window. So for me, that is a con of living here. I called the Bloomington PD on them twice, which I HATE doing because, hey, students will be students, but 3 am bass and screaming does not go well with 7am job. But maybe you will get placed in an apartment that doesn't overlook this house.....
Secondly, they are absolutely the worst communicators I have ever experienced in my 4 years of renting apartments in Bloomington. We have a random 150 dollar charge on our account and we received no email, call, or letter to inform us of that, and we still don't know what the hell it's for. If you are late on rent, they will charge you without contacting you in any form to let you know you are late. So I guess just don't ever be late....? I have sent emails to the leaser and not had any response back whatsoever. We were informed that our apartment would be used as a show apartment, HOWEVER, I was LUCKY to see the email (which I don't check very often) that said they would SHOWING THE APARTMENT IN 1 DAYS TIME and that it had to be 'show ready'. Needless to say, I late to work because I had to clean up for this. I was NOT GIVEN A CALL about any of this, and really it was just a miracle I checked my email because they would have come in and seen me in my jammies chillin in my less-than-show-ready apartment. LIke I said, really terrible communicators.
And third, my maintenance experience that made me write this review. On Thursday, we noticed that some popsicles in the fridge had lost the coat of ice on them and ice in the freezer had melted a bit, we turned the thermo in the fridge cooler and noticed the next day it had gotten a little worse. Things hadn't quite melted yet, but we had to toss the slushie popsicles on Sat. morning. I called Choice Saturday afternoon because it was obviously needing to be fixed or we would loose all our frozen food and most of our fridge food. I would like to mention when you call choice and dial the number for emergency maintenance, you have to leave a voicemail and are told someone will get a text and deal with the issue immediately. I left my address and number as instructed to, and was given ZERO reply ALL DAY. They did not come to fix the fridge. Flash forward to Sunday morning, rotten smell in fridge and freezer, and food is bad. I called and left another message only to receive and 'automated response' text message from choice maintenance telling me to put my food in a cooler or on ice to save it and that they would dispatch crew to fix it. I texted them back because it obviously wasn't an automated response, they spelled you're *ur.... I told them I had no need to put my food on ice as it had already gone bad and i asked them if they wanted me to clean it out before they came. I also asked why they didn't contact me the day before when I called. They responded with, 'No. Fridge is not considered to be emerg. maintenance issue. You said it was getting warmer the past 2 days, not that it was out. Someone will be there Monday morning to fix it' MONDAY FREAKING MORNING. OK I guess I just won't use my fridge until then?????
Like seriously, how is that good service? Firstly, I couldn't even talk to a real person on the phone, and secondly, a broken fridge is absolutely emergency maintenance. I have lived at 2 other apartments were this has happened and it was considered as such. I had to throw away at least $50 of spoiled food. My other apartment even offered to reimburse me for the lost food. And this one won't call me back about it.
As a closing statement, the 1 bedroom apartment I own is very nice. new, and bright which is a plus, even though it is on the small side.
If you don't care about maintenance, knowing what random charges that show up on your account are for, being able to talk to live people when you are looking for answers, college bros projectile vomiting outside your bedroom window at 8 am, and random showings that you may or may not have known about, then this apartment will be the perfect one for you! read more
