History
Established in 2011.
Based in West Malling High Street since 2011, our traditional sweet shop has become known for fun and quirky presentation of your favourites making them perfect gifts and a 'go to' shop for something a little out of the ordinary for birthdays, Christmas and weddings.
For the past two years, the growth of the Chocolate Umbrella has amazed even us for its speciality chocolates and truffles that are made upstairs in our chocolate room attracting new customers both individual, corporate and wholesale and establish a lovely personal relationship with our faithful customer base. Going from strength to strength and having built a solid reputation for quality and variety and our Easter eggs and gifts offer a unique alternative to anything on the high street.
On the success and popularity of this we have started to make our own sweets and where possible use local ingredients.
Christmas is like walking into Santa's own grotto and the everyday ... well, it just isn't everyday !!
Meet the Business Owner: Suzanne D.
After working in London for several years & then moving to a fast paced job in Quality Assurance, Suzanne settled locally to start a family & enjoy a slower pace!
Once the children started school the itch to start back to work took hold, but it had to be something 'low key' to fit around family. It started very small to fill a gap to provide childrens party bags & something a little different for birthdays for parties, but the popularity of our unique sweetie cakes took us by surprise.
The business grew rapidly & as nothing is ever done by halves! countless courses & development days followed rapidly too to ensure that the enthusiasm & creativity was matched by a knowledge & understanding of both the chocolates we wanted to sell, the desire to use 'real' ingredients not flavourings or pastes & where possible to reduce sugars & use fair trade products.
It is very much a family business, with all hands on deck during our busy times & one of our children even became a chef!
