I have loved Bernard Callebaut chocolates for years, in spite of their prices. My high school used to be beside the original B Callebaut factory in Calgary. In the last couple of years, I would spend upwards of $1000 at this store. This year, I bought some pre wrapped boxes of chocolate for gifts and then was informed by the recipient that some of the chocolate were whitened. The gift recipient went to the store to show them the chocolate and was told by the man there that the chocolate was likely not consumed within 5 days or was not properly stored. Unfortunately, there is no signage or warning about the timing of chocolate consumption or storage of the chocolates at purchase. Also, I am pretty sure those chocolates were well cared for before giving to the recipients. He refused to even look at the chocolates without a receipt (it was a gift) and I have to say, I was not given more than a credit card receipt anyway when I bought them. Also, he refused to replace the few chocolates that had been whitened.
I telephoned the store to discuss this with them and again, no apology, no offer for replacement or even a partial refund. He basically just said the chocolates were to be consumed immediately and they cannot control for how they are stored.
This also makes me wonder how much of all the gifts of chocolates I have given in the past have had a spoiled appearance - which is embarrassing to say the least.
It is interesting because he wouldn't even give the customer the benefit of the doubt.
The customer service in this store is unfortunately poor and has left a poor taste in my mouth that has affected my love of their chocolate. I have never written a poor review of any business as I am pretty easy to please but I am disappointed and will not be returning again. read more
