We went here last year 09/12/15
Oh my!! What heavenly scents and aromas await you as soon as you open the door. If you go to a French chocolate shop you need to try the very world famous world renown French Macaron. There is such a huge assortment to try with different creams inside. A macaron is a French sweet meringue-based confection made with egg white, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder or ground almond, and food coloring in almost every color imaginable by man. It truly is sweet art! You can find macarons all over France, however I suggest trying them at a chocolatier.
This shop is historic and has been on this spot for 200 years! You can almost feel the history in the shop. The ambience, aroma, the very way they arrange the candy. The shop is filled with art deco motifs.
The shop has quite a distinct collection of chocolates and a variety to make your head spin. I asked if the gentleman behind the counter spoke English. (I asked in French) He said "a little". He was so kind and patient and gave us advice on which Macarons to purchase. One of the largest arrays of Macarons with a the largest medley I saw available anywhere, while I was in Paris. We were told that Art Nouveau-era boxes are specifically designed by well regarded artists and artists of the day for their shop. How absolutely brilliant!
I noticed I didn't mention trying the chocolate with was a delectable heavenly experience. The macaron that was my favorite was a coffee with a light chocolate filling. My daughter favorite was the Strawberry or Mango she couldn't decide. It was so much fun on purchasing them and then deciding which one to eat and in which order. It did take us sometime to even bite into them because they just looked so pretty. You felt like you were biting into a cloud of delectable, enticing food that lifted your whole life experience to another level. So glad we tried them and so very happy we stumbled (we were lost) on this shop!!
Don't feel bad if you are a novice chocolatier or candy enthusiast. I don't care what others say the French are absolutely incredible, discerning, charming, polite and enchanting! I love that the gentleman gave us a little history and run down of this shop!
It is an absolute must do and while in France!
Thank you to whoever was in the shop that day! Thank you for making our first trip to France such and incredible and treasured memory! VIA LA FRANCE!!
