I agree with Ryan, John, and Sylvia. Always a bad experience with the manager and some the supervisors of the sorters. They are just rude with an "I don't give a sh:t" attitude! Except for the one emo/hipster gal and the loading guys in the back. I feel like they don't like helping a diverse customer base. Doesn't seem like they care for the store either. I love a good thrift store. You just never know what you will find. There is a lot of clothes here, a small houseware sections, a small section of furniture, about 15 wedding dresses, and a few more odds and ends, including bedding. I'm sure that changes over time due to whatever donations they get in. It's clean, and sanitizer is provided for all things covid. They were actually vacuuming while we were there. The two female staff members were nice and helpful at the register. There is a lot of room for parking as well. read more

Closest thrift store to me that I visit often. The front parking lot is crazy because it's located right off of busy va beach blvd, but there is a back parking lot (though I think people forget about it). Not too big of a store, but there's a lot of things! Wouldn't call it a goldmine, but you could find a few things with various visits. The employees are very kind and helpful. read more

Whomever is pricing the items in this store has lost their ever-loving mind. I dropped off a few things this morning and decided to peruse the bookshelves. I found 3 books that I was interested in. All three could be found NEW and cheaper online from you know where with free shipping. In the kitchen section, a very well used small butchers block was $10. I'll give them the two stars for the wide assortment of both men's and women's clothes but I'll admit, I never thought I'd see the day where I'd have to admit that despite a successful career...I simply can't afford this place. read more

1. EXTREMELY overpriced. You cannot leave the store without noticing their markups often times above new retail prices. 2. Extremely rude and condescending. On multiple occasions I've personally experienced this so it is not a single instance. Even witnessed another customer complain about their treatment of a fellow customer. Come here for HALLOWEEN COSTUMES! I found so many amazing costumes for kids and adults too! I was surprised at how big the selection was they had racks full of them. If you haven't find a costume yet and want to save money this CHKD is worth trying out. Trust me I go thrifting a lot and this has the biggest selection by far. read more

All proceeds from this store go to supporting the hospital and caring for children in need. This store is one of the best organized thrift stores in the area. It's a good size, not too overwhelming to drop in for a quick browse. CHKD seems to mostly specialize in clothing and specifically women's clothing, but they do have toys, books and house ware items too. The clothes are some of the best thrift store finds in the area. In the five minutes I dropped in, I found four "gotta have it" jean skirts for $4 each. I bought one and quickly shuffled out of the store before I pulled out a credit card and started some major shopping. If you need to supplement your wardrobe on the cheap, stop here first. read more

They carry primarily clothing. There is furniture and miscellaneous household goods, and books, etc., but t-shirts, shorts are what I would return for. Yes, there is no fitting room, so you better know your sizes. And if it doesn't fit, at least you only spent $1.99 or $3.99. The shirts weren't organized that I could tell, so it took a while, but I found 3 neat shirts and 3 shorts (1 pair of shorts was sized incorrectly, so I gave it to my dad). A question - why did I see four William and Mary t-shirts here, but not 1 Old Dominion University shirt? *I can't find a yelp page for the downtown Norfolk location. so here is my review: I didn't look at the men's clothes there, so I can't compare, but their miscellaneous selection was good! I found a Harry Potter sorting hat book stop, bamboo wall hanging, and wooden bowl. I also saw microwaves, DVDs, and the staff was very friendly! Love hate relationship with this CHKD. I've seen ridiculously priced things here that make me wanna punch the person who came up with it. For instance: a issac mizrahi (however its spelled) coat from TARGET that was used for $199.00 ...are they kidding? pretty sure it cost $40 new at target. they can't tell the difference between whats worth a bunch & what's worth little. With that being said, this place still sometimes has good deals. Out of all the CHKDs in va bch this has the best stuff...whether or not it's going to be priced right is a gamble.:) Still it gets 4 stars for being organized & for generally good customer service. read more

We've been going to this thrift store for years. Every time we visit VA Beach, we schedule a time to visit this store. We appreciate the cause and support any child regardless of the need. Recently, my grandson was with us and needed to use the restroom (poo) he was in pain and crying. When I took him back to use the restroom- we were told he was not allowed. No excepts. I understand COVID 19 restrictions and support the guide lines that are in place for our safety...........but really? He is six years old - the staff uses the restroom someplace. I would have gladly disinfected the facility afterwards........ We had to quickly leave there and went to Goodwill so he could use the restroom. read more

I don't usually thrift for clothes since I'm on the curvier side lol, but this store has a really big selection of clothes. Most of the store is clothing with the wall space used for home goods, books, etc. this is one of the few brightly lit stores which helps with digging through the racks to find the perfect treasure. So I love going to the average thrift/consignment store. I'm in that age bracket where I just graduated from university so I'm dirt poor but I need to buy professional clothing in order to start making money. Such is life. So I'm usually a good will patron but I decided to see what this store was all about. I liked that it is affiliated with the children's hospital, that makes me more willing to spend money. But that is probably the only redeeming factor of this place. First off, as I started sifting through the clothes I realized that there is hardly any semblance of organization. Essentially there are rows labeled "women's shirts", "women's long sleeve shirts", "women's pants", etc. The standard broad set up. BUT, what I didn't like was that there was absolutely no organization within each of the rows. No separation of sizes, colors, styles etc. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect perfection. But even good will, with it's much larger inventory, is capable of creating a system of ascending sizes and sometimes even separate things by color. This meant I had to spend even longer going through every item to find things in my size. The second thing I disliked was that, and maybe I got there on an off day, but they seemed to have a very small selection of items in the small/0-4 size category. I understand that the national average is now a size large/10-14 but I was surprised at how little I could find in other sizes. That's more of a personal reason why I wouldn't shop there. The most obnoxious aspect of this place though is that they do not provide ANY form of a fitting room to try on the stuff. Essentially you're expected to guess whether something would fit or not. That truly shocked me, I do not like buying things that I don't know whether they'd fit. The return policy makes it even worse. They give you 7 days to bring back clothes that don't fit and you have to have the receipt. Not only that, you CANNOT get a refund. Instead you can exchange it for something else. I find that to be bad business and very unaccommadating. You can't try things on to make sure they fit and are expected to purchase them keeping your fingers crossed and no matter what they get to keep your money because if it doesn't fit you're out of luck and must sift through their entire store for an item of equal or lesser value. I probably would have bought more items if is have had a chance to try things on or return them for cash back. Instead I put a lot of things back because I was unsure if they'd look good on me and didn't want to chance it. The prices weren't bad, some things seemed a tad overpriced but nothing I got was over $10. I feel bad for the store, they're going to lose money in the long run because of people who put things back because they don't want to chance a bad fit. In the end, the only reason I'd ever return to this place is to exchange one of the few items I purchased. That's it. I'm going to stick with good will. read more

Love Chkd and the fact it helps the hospital . Texting Tuesday seems to be there bussiest day just text the word kids to 71441 and get 25% off each item . They keep the store pretty clean and try to have good customer service . They do follow policy and if a tag is off something they won't sale it but it is there job. They have military day on Monday 25% off and Thursday is there senior day 25% off over all I love Chkd Thrift Stores. Also they use a greaser pencil all u have to do to get it off any iteam is use an eraser are wd-40 works good to amd you never can tell it was on the iteam . They also have a huge parking lot in the back of the building .... Good deals everyday and it helps the kids read more

Rude management. I went there looking for clothes I can wear to the gym and the manager that evening was rude and uninterested in answering any of my questions. I tried the next day as well. There was another manager and to my surprise even rudest than the other one. I asked for the general manager, Rhianna from what I was told, yet she was not in that day. Since when is a burden being friendly and smiley to your costumers? Who supervises these rude young ladies? Why do they allow them to treat costumers unprofessionally? Are they even the managers? This CHKD is quite large. The aisles are wide and the bargains are good! I love this CHKD store if I have some time to really look. Lots of maternity clothes and clothes in general. A large furniture and trinket section. Any size basket you can imagine. This CHKD doesn't budge on the rules. If there's no price on the item, they won't sell it to you. I know why they do this, but CHKD only loosely staples the tags onto clothes so sometimes they come off. read more

I have shopped here for years & always liked this store, but the CHKD On Little Creek Rd in Norfolk has the worst employees & manager. I thought maybe they were just having a bad day the first few times I was in there, but I shop there often & everytime I go in there, all 4 of them have terrible attitudes & are more than rude to every single customer. Was in there with my Daughter and 11 year old grandson & we told him he could pick out a stuffed animal for his little sister. Not a minute later, the manager walks up to him & says "Unless you have money to buy that, your not allowed to play with it, so put it back on the shelf NOW!" He was with 2 adults, we'll behaved, not wandering the store getting into everything, & I was just speechless at the rudeness! I told her he was with us & he WAS buying a stuffed animal after choosing which one he wanted, to which she replied," Sorry but the rules of the store do not allow children to play with the toys unless they are buying them". Um, I thought I just told her that we WERE buying one. We just left & went somewhere else. There is one very nice older black woman that just started working there. She is very polite & great with customers. You should hear the way these employees talk to her & snap orders at her. So disrespectful. These people just seem to put me in a bad mood after every visit. Kill em with kindness doesn't work on this group of workers. District manager for this store needs to send in a secret shopper to see how awful it is to go in there! read more

For the past couple of years, I've shopped at the CHKD stores and they have always had terrific bargains and one of kind finds! I love it!

I will NEVER go back again!!! This is the worst store ever and all they had was a bunch of broken junk!

My biggest complaint is workers write crayon prices on books, electronics, and toys. I find it unprofessional and tacky. Other thrift stores use price stickers or tags. Items was way overpriced, especially toys. Some parts of the toys are missing that you could buy it new elsewhere. read more

i went to our local thrift store on providence road i was very disappointed that a velvet throw pillow was taged 8.98 and it was not even brand new let alone it was donated. i then went onto the dress rack to find a dress from express with the tags still on it and it was marked 12.99 which again is over priced for a thrift store were items have been given to the store. i have always found chkd to be overwheleming to high and the only discount you get is on tue for a small 25% off it is not like we are looking to receive items for free but we are looking for affortable prices. when i shop at good will i see why they are called good will they have good will towards everyone. i must admitt i wont be going into chkd anymore. i like salvation army stores because they also have reasonable prices chkd please have some one go in and check out who is doing the pricing because there is a serious problem there. peace & blessing. read more
