Chitty Garbage Services wins my ongoing reward system for clever names. My firsthand customer experience is directly linked to the Chitty waste pickup service provided to my Parent's house in Ames. I visit there often, and because Mom and Dad are in the 80s, bringing the trash to the curb and bringing the empties back into the garage is what good children do for their folks (and any neighbors that need similar help). I've further observed that the good Chitty folks collecting the trash are nice, efficient, and don't block the street for longer than they have to. After 10 years plus of good service we are dropping this trash service. Has been three weeks since they have picked up my mother's trash. Several calls with no call back,or any kind of response. They had no problem cashing her check and keeping her money. What has happened to this business? Would no longer recommend these guys. read more

I've been using Chitty since Waste Management asked me to leave them (see below). The price is half what WM wanted, and their service is great. The drivers are very helpful on the odd chance I am home and running to the curb with the trash can when they hit my street. The monthly billing is nice to have. WM billed 3 months at a time. Also, WM's 3 price hikes in 18 months were a total of 50% increase. read more

I don't think a lot of people are inspired to talk about solid waste removal. These guys are like clockwork. I never see them. I've never had any problems. They're like magicians who just make my garbage disappear every Tuesday. They do great work because they work behind the scenes. You never think about them because they never give you any reason to. They're reliable, like gravity always there providing the same results over and over again. Really good rates, great service. Don't let the name fool you, this is a great family owned company. read more

I really dislike Chitty, they show up in my rural neighborhood every week before 7am. It wakes up the neighborhood dogs and they start barking and then my entire family is awake. Disturbing the peace, does it not apply to garbage trucks! They are so loud! No other service arrives that early in our neighborhood. Update 7/26/17 Ames noise ordinance applies to garbage trucks too and today they were here at 6:20am. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Chitty. To say that they go above and beyond is an understatement. I feel as though I should leave my haulers a case of beer every week. I am such a slacker; half the time I forget to pull my cart to the street...and every time they make the trek all the way back to my house to get it for me. I have thanked them many times over for this and they just wave me off with a smile. If you have ever had the extreme displeasure of hauling your own trash to the dump, you'd know what an absolute nightmare it is, in particular around here....thankfully I never have to worry. Their billing and service with billing is also spectacular. They run the place with trust; you can call, have them pick up an appliance or something out of the ordinary and they'll just tack it onto your next month's bill. I always see their cans and trucks around Ames when I'm heading to class,they are very professional. Few weeks ago was move out day for Ames and the amount of trash was crazy. I have newfound respect for garbage men. What really got me to want to post a review is a run in I had a few weeks ago. My car broke down just outside of Ames and a employee of chittys stopped and helped me change the tire. since he was wearing one of those bright Chitty shirts that lets people see them he told me it was safer for him to handle it. After he was finished he asked if there was anything else I needed and wouldn't accept any money as a thank you. That event really opened my eyes to how garbage men are actually really great people. They're very good and very professional. I've not had any issues and hVe no complaints about them. If anything they should've complained to me, but didn't.. Since I didn't realize until after over a year by looking at their website that I was placing my garbage bin the wrong way every week. Sorry guys!!! read more

SO, SO DISAPPOINTED WITH CHITTY! We had excellent service from Chitty for years. Now they've changed their yard waste to make you pay $100 for seasonal use of the bin and cannot call in weekly for pickup, according to a nasty guy in customer service, who argued over and over with my husband about it. This was after another customer service person told my husband we could call in for yard waste pickup. It still says you can call in on the website, so undoubtedly, they don't know what's going on with that. Also, there is no Ames number anymore, which was always answered promptly. You have to wait a long time on hold, to get hold of anybody on the phone and they don't always tell the truth. And no notification of this change of ownership. They have missed two of our last three pickups for garbage (we've lived here for 23 years), so I called and talked to a girl in customer service at noon Friday and she assured me that they would pick it up today. Our garbage is still here on Monday. As you can imagine, I have left a message on their answering machine. They don't seem to care about their customers anymore. We will be changing to another garbage company after the yard waste season is over, because we were forced to sign up for the $100 per season. read more

This is an amazing company. I know it is strange to feel so excited about a garbage company but they are awesome. They have great customer service and great service. They are always on time, they have even come up and gotten our garbage can from by our house when we forgot to put it out several times. We are always up very early so we often meet them as we are leaving for work and they are all so very nice. It is one of the best run small companies (not just garbage companies) I've ever seen. read more
