I could not feel more secure about my little dog's health than I do and have since finding Lori…read more When my little dog was diagnosed with a stage 4 heart murmur, I immediately knew that I had to go into high gear to keep him alive at all costs. After voraciously hunting online for the right holistic practitioner, comparing reviews, types of treatment, and credentials, I found Lori. She got straight down to business, instructing both his dietary and supplemental regime, and I wasted no time in following suit. Fast forward 3 months after his echocardiogram at his follow-up of the same, his Cardiologist was so impressed that she actually signed off on all his heart supplements that Lori advised. The swelling had gone down, his heart murmur was steady (no decline), and all she had to say was, "Whatever diet you have him on, whatever you're doing, keep it up." Fingal is now 11 years old, and people are always commenting on how healthy and young he looks and seems. With her background in western medical field, Lori has respect for veterinarians and is willing to work alongside them, and yet, thanks to her comprehensive study and openness to learning everything she can to keep our babies alive, she won't hesitate to offer alternative ways of treating that will, without the side effects often associated with western medications, lengthen their lives. She also keeps meticulous notes. If you forget something, trust me, she has it written in a file. I trust her completely with my little guy's life. Literally.

Opportunistic overcharging business warning- Mount Tabor animal Hospital Winston-Salem, NC…read more While this office provides good medical care, be warned: their pricing is anywhere from double to 1,000% higher than other local clinics. It is deeply disappointing to see a veterinary practice take such financial advantage of pet owners. My puppy was taken in due to the regular vet being closed for the day after her spay procedure opened in two places, explicitly asking for staples to be replaced and antibiotics given. Without my consent, they removed and replaced all of her prior closures entirely. While the medical work was done well, they charged me double the cost of the entire original spay procedure just to close the wound ($500). They even tried to charge me for an e-collar, despite her being dropped off wearing one. In another instance, they charged me well over $2,000 for a procedure to remove two tumors. When the cancer unfortunately recurred, my new vet performed three tumor removals for just $250 total. After taking my dogs here for years, switching to a new vet opened my eyes. I learned this office had been pushing unnecessary care, like a Bordetella vaccine for dogs that are never boarded, and even trying to pressure my mother into a livestock-contact vaccine her dog didn't need. This business has clearly shifted its motivation from animal care to extreme profit margins. Please shop around and do a cost comparison before bringing your pets here. Shame on you for taking advantage of people who just want to care for their animals.

Dr. Miller is the best example that I know of what a small town vet should be like. He genuinely…read morelikes all of the animals that he treats and spends any amount of time with you that you need as the concerned "parent". My best example that shows why you should go to his office instead of a big or little box vet occurred this past weekend. After picking up my dog from the groomer I noticed something that was concerning and decided to drive by his office on the way home. Knowing that I would be lucky to find the office open much less being able to get time with him, I hoped that I might be able to set up an appointment. I actually found him in the parking lot locking up for the day. He closed up the office and then looked at my dog in the parking lot. Then we talked in the parking lot for twenty minutes about my sports car and his soccer injury. The chat is not necessary but it gives you time (as it did for me that day) to think about any other questions that you might have. If you are looking for a puppy then you should give him a call for a recommendation for a breeder. He seems to be aware of or provides services for a lot of breeders (especially golden retrievers).

We had an emergency last week in the morning and, left a message explaining we were on our way there. When Jackie called back, she was surprised that we were already in their parking lot. She proceeded to explain that they do not see emergencies and told us she would email us a list of other vets in the area. My husband (who is in the medical field- and, even though his office is not 'set up' for emergencies- he will always see a patient in pain), asked if someone could take just 3-5 minutes & triage her in the back of our car, because she was in so much pain-she's a big Newfie and wasn't able to walk) Jackie said no. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed. So we went to Pressly Animal Hospital and were accepted immediately. As soon as we walked through the door, Dr. Pressly took her into the back, did x rays and showed them to us, explained everything and we decided on a plan of action. They also followed up throughout the day and the next morning. So, please be aware. As much as we really like Dr. Miller, Miller Animal Hospital will NOT see your animal in an emergency. They will NOT be there when you really need them.....even if you've been faithfully singing their praises and giving them your business for 13 years. Our new vet is Dr. Pressly and we'll not be going back to Miller Animal Hospital.
