Having just moved from a place where Mexican food is big, I was delighted to discover that Birmingham has its very own Mexican restaurant. I love Mexican food and the ambience that usually comes with Mexican eateries. Thing upbeat music, colourful decorations and a warm and friendly service. I am sorry to say that Chiquito is not like that at all. Whoever developed the concept for this restaurant I am sure has never set foot into a Mexican restaurant before. It's sleek, dark, empty, with weird music and less than attentive waiters. As far as the food goes, it's not bad. Some of it was even tasty (like their guacamole). But it's not Mexican. It's probably what someone who has never eaten Mexican food before would come up with when asked to cook Mexican food. I mean, there shouldn't be BBQ sauce. On anything. And just because it's Mexican doesn't mean you have to add sweet corn and salsa to everything. And they don't even have frozen margaritas. This is obviously a huge place someone has put a lot of money into. Why not try to do it right? You left me sad and with a craving for tacos, Chiquito. read more
