Good and evil cocktail combo!
Vicky O.

Bodega is another Bitters'n'Twisted bar in the centre of Birmingham. Well, I say bar - more resturant with excellent cocktails. I popped in here last night and sampled one of their non-alcoholic cocktails, which was delicious (Pomegranite Fizz - recommended). I come here fairly regularly as it's a great place to meet up with friends, go for a reasonably priced meal or as a venue to celebrate with work friends. The Burrito's are faultless. Lots of taste, a range of spice options and (as previously said by other yelpers) Sweet potato fries to die for. Their cocktail menu is extensive, but if you want to try something different - try a "Dias de los muertos" (It's on the Happy Hour menu). There is always a good atmosphere in here and the staff are very helpful and pleasant. I would advise to try a cocktail in happy hour, as they can be expensive out of these times.

Bodega is on my top 10 best places to eat in Birmingham. Even being also one of the busiest places to eat ever! Yes, it's difficult to find a table there, but as soon as you find it, grab it and enjoy the moment! The South American bar and restaurant catch your eyes with a menu that bring back memories to anyone who already visited any Latin American country. For me, it's the perfect place to bring friends and speak a bit of Portuguese while drinking some caipirinhas. I love the place. The decor, music, staff, people around. Great vibe, great food. Food is exceptional indeed. And I just can't get enough of talking and eating it . Last time visiting, I tried a Peruvian meal that I never had before and for my surprise, it reminds me a lot my mom's food. No, she is not Peruvian but rice and beef is something she knows how to cook well! Lomo Saltado is delicious and I am putting Peru`s gastronomy in my list of best food! I love it and I would ask it again and again! The soy sauce, red wine and Pisco combination is just perfect. A perfect main portion for someone who was hungry indeed. My dessert was a Mexican classic that can be find anywhere in the word. Thank God! Churros. It brings back memories of a childhood not in Mexico, but in Brazil, where children take churros as well as serious than ice cream or chocolate. Bodega's one is crunchy and delicious! I pretty much like the options of wine they have and it was very good to share a bottle of Albali Crianza with a special friend , in a special occasion. As I never visited Bodega without finish my day with a caipirinha. Angelica's one was the right choice and even it was served in a very gracious ( but small) glass, the pineapple , rum and believe or not, banana cream, was just delicious. The drinks were 2 for £ 4 and I recommend you visit soon to try it! The fact they use a homemade cachaça also win some points from me. Love it! Non alcoholic drinks are also served at Bodega. I am not powered by alcohol all the time. ;o) And if you are visiting but not into cocktails, try some Agua Fresca, a soft drink of goddesses! Bodega is great indeed. I just wish they have more room or they would have another bar exactly the same in town as a second option for amazing Latin American experience!

Pollo Mohito - healthy & scrummy!

Bizarrely the first time I've eaten here as normally they are too full for walk-in custom. On walking in there's a nice, relaxing vibe due to the music, colour and decor. We decided to share a few items from the street menu - 4 between 2 of us was way too much as the portions are very generous, I would recommend 3 maximum even if you're very hungry. The chicken quasedillas were the nicest item we ordered and had a very tasty and tangy flavour to them. The pork burrito was also delicious but the chicken burrito was a bit plain for our tastes. Nachos were very nice but be warned even the smaller portion is pretty hefty! Wine and beer were very refreshing and there was a good selection of drink options including cocktails. The only reason I'm not giving 5/5 is that we had to wait a long time for our drinks and in the end had to go to the bar to chase but they were very apologetic about it. Will definitely be going back very soon!

Bodega is easy to walk past without noticing but it really is worth stepping inside to sample the food and drink. I really wanted to leave them a fantastic 5* review because this place really does have amazing tasty food and great beer and cocktails selection. They have TEQUILA too!!! The atmosphere is laid back and fun however it is a small establishment and therefore it's best to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. They have space downstairs too. The food is fresh and great quality. They offer small plates to share which are tapas style or large plates if you want your own meal. The cocktails very tasty and there lots on offer to choose from. The beer selection is extensive, you're bound to find something that will tickle your tastebuds. I found the staff attentive, but because we were sat in a corner behind other people we ended up waiting around 20 minutes trying to get the waitress attention for our second order of drinks. again we had to wait quite a long time to pay the bill. Also when my tapas small plates arrive they forgot to bring out my sweet potato fries. So had to rush the order resulting in burnt fries. Which were the only two bad points. Otherwise i would of gave the full 5*. I will return and update my review. That rant aside, great food, great atmosphere, shame about the lack of service. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something a little bit different.

So last night as me and a colleague sat there having, quite frankly, a ridiculously good time, I decided there and then this was a true five star business and that I would Yelp about it. This is why. 1. The nachos and burritos are amazing. The burrito comes with a really unhealthy side of double cooked sweet potato fries which are to die for. This is probably the best mexican food in the UK. Seriously. 2. The service here is even better. Our waiter was friendly, fun and knowledgeable. I didn't catch his name but he's the guy with the half pink mohawk. 3. The cocktails. Ah, yes the cocktails. We sampled several, and they were all good. I recommend the Pisco Sour as my favourite. 4. The vibe. This place just rocks. Cool design, good music, open windows at the front... I likey Basically I was happy to visit Birmingham because I got to go here. It gets very, very busy on the weekends, so call and book ahead.

This has to be one of my favourite places to eat, wine and dine in Birmingham! Bodega is a South American bar and cantina. The food is amazing and wont disappoint those food lovers. They offer a fusion of Italian, Brazilian and South American foods and tastes, all of which is fresh. Try the cocktails! These are very generous and I was almost tipsy after just 1! But worth their cost and very good value for money. (i liked the little cacti they have in pots for wall decorations, but there not for sale). Downstairs has another small cocktail bar, and upstairs you have the restaurant with table seating, and comfy couch style seating with cushions. Friday nights there is a DJ and it's also open till late. Overall a very healthy menu with a large variety of choice, and one restaurant that you will visit again and again.

Yummy nachos!

Proper comfort food done South American style. The fact that this place is nearly always busy every day is testament to the popularity and reputation that Bodega has. Full of colour, funky modern decor and an inviting menu, this place is full of South American flavour. Sumptuous tortillas, exquisite burritos and amazing sweet potato fries are amongst the many highlights! The drinks choices are many and diverse too. Despite sometimes a few issues with the speed of service when at peak times, this place comes highly recommended. I always love coming back here!

Cocktails here are really fantastic. Original and innovative but without losing the fun of their South American theme. The food is good too, although the menu isn't as creative as the cocktail menu. Still delicious though. I've visited for a Hen Party, a date and a catch up cocktail after work. It was a good setting for all three. Should I mention the cocktails again? They're delicious.

I must preface this review by saying I am a HUGE mexican food fan. When I saw Bodega at the top of the recommended list, I knew I had to go here. So, based on feedback I've read here, I booked myself a table. Without much to do, I went a bit early, hoping they could squeeze me in sooner. They couldn't, which is fine as I saw they were extremely busy (for a Wednesday night nonetheless!). I took a seat in the front where they normally serve drinks. I looked over their extensive drinks card, which included a large amount of excellent looking cocktails but decided to skip drinks. Although I skipped drinks, the staff didn't know this and surprisingly no one came to ask if I wanted to order something, despite the fact I was sitting there for at least 30 minutes. Which brings me to my next point, I had to wait quite a while until a table was freed up for me, later that my reservation was set for. To be honest, I thought they had forgotten about me so I asked them if my table was ready a couple of times. Ok, not the worst service I'd had to that point but I was definitely ready to dig in to some excellent mexcian food. I ordered the nachoes and veggie burrito with sweet potato fries. Although the food was good, I was disappointed. They were fine but I've definitely had better versions of both and better service to go along with it. While I did leave with a full stomach, I don't know if I'd return again given how annoying the experience was (service wise). Too bad as this could have been a place I'd potentially return to time and time again.

Underground Private Room area

Last night I attended a private event in the downstairs area where there was a separate bar and customizable seating area. I would recommend this place for a private event as I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The customer service was very good, the gentleman in charge was very knowledgeable about tequilas, and our food was hot and prompt. Although I was unable to try anything hand picked from a menu upstairs, the place I noticed was super busy and I think there might have been a bit of a wait for a Monday night. There was also a very cool looking full bar upstairs as well. It seems like the type of place I would definitely visit again when I'm craving some very tasty Mexican food! p.s. the guacamole was delish!!!

So first time at Bodega I got take away Burrito and though I liked it, I did think I've had better. Second time going had to eat in and see what difference from the take away. Got a table easily, we didn't think we would as was quite busy. I have to say from moment we got in the customer service was excellent till stepped out. Staff were amazing and approachable. Wearing a smile throughout our time there. So I have to give the staff a shoutout :) Ordered burrito again this time and see what I missed from last time. Food came hot and I heard my friend after he took a bite say "quite a lot of fillings" and yes It was Jampacked with fillings. Melted cheese inside just added more deliciousness to my burrito. The dips were just beautiful, spicy but not hot. Pip's hot sauce was just perfect to have with the sweet potato fries. Can tell everything there is made locally if not inhouse. Our time there went smoothly and no complaints. You were right Vicky O, this place is great. I've already recommended this place to others. And will be suggesting here next time when looking for food. 4.5*

Had an absolute fabulous time testing tequila shots with fellow Yelpers! Great atmosphere and fantastic room downstairs, brilliant for party gatherings. Could have some really good party's! Food was delicious and really loved the art work and deco. Definitely 10/10 for overall experience x

Chilli and ginger monito

I just love everything about Bodega! Part of the Bitters & Twisted chain, this venue is all things South America. Two friends and I headed down on a Tuesday night for food and cocktails. Even midweek the place was packed and we were lucky to grab the last remaining table. The menu here is mouth watering. You can order a dish for yourself but the menu is really made to share so we did just that. We ordered a large Nachos, pulled pork Tacos, Sweet potato fries and a house salad between three. Unlike many places, the Nachos are made with freshly fried tortilla chips and loads of topping including guacamole, refried beans and sour cream. Although the portion was a little small, the Tacos were delicious. The sweet potato fries were chunky (fries or chips?) and perfectly cooked. However, the most surprising element of the meal was the house salad. For £3.25 we received a bowl of salad heaven with sliced avocado, refried beans and lashings of dressing (Not one for those counting the calories). All in all the meal was incredible. It didn't end there either. The waitress suggested a chilli and ginger Mojito to drink. It sounds like it wouldn't work but it truely was incredible. It had the standard Mojito base with just enough fresh chilli to add a kick and the ginger worked well too. The total bill came £45 which included all of the aforementioned food and three cocktails. A great venue, great food and a bargain to boot! Definitely a thumbs up from me.

To Whom It May Concern, Be At One - Birmingham…read more I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the treatment my group received at your Birmingham venue on the evening of Saturday 5th July, at approximately 9:00 PM. We were a group of four professional, sober, over-40s men, all looking forward to enjoying a relaxed evening. One member of our group, my cousin, entered the venue without issue. However, when my brother attempted to follow, he was refused entry on the grounds that he did not have physical ID. While he did not carry a hard copy, he presented a clear and valid image of his passport on his phone. Despite this, the door staff refused to accept it -- even though it clearly showed his identity. When we attempted to calmly question this decision, we were told that only physical ID would be accepted -- a policy that, while perhaps enforceable, could have been communicated more respectfully. I then attempted to enter the venue with my physical photo ID, simply to retrieve my cousin who was already inside. Surprisingly, I was denied entry on the grounds that "no single entries" were allowed -- a confusing and inconsistent response given that my cousin had just been allowed in alone moments earlier. When I questioned this, the bouncer smirked and continued to dismiss us rudely. What was more disturbing was the behavior of a woman whom we understood to be the manager. When we raised our concerns with her, she laughed at us and offered no explanation or assistance. This kind of mocking, unprofessional behavior from a member of management is wholly unacceptable. Eventually, we were told that none of us would be allowed entry, without any legitimate justification. We were left feeling disrespected, discriminated against, and deeply disappointed by the staff's unprofessionalism. I urge you to review this incident, including any CCTV or bodycam footage from your door team that evening. At the very least, I would appreciate a formal response addressing: Your policy on accepted forms of ID (including digital copies), Clarification around the "no single entries" rule, and An explanation for the behavior of both the bouncer and the manager on duty. I hope this complaint is taken seriously. We expected a safe and welcoming environment but instead experienced inconsistency, rudeness, and what felt like discrimination. I look forward to your response and a meaningful explanation. Yours sincerely,

I attended the opening of Be AT One last night and have to say i'm impressed. The menu is extensive....like i'm talking a short novel filled with classics and favourites as well as some more unusual creations. The hardest part of the evening was deciding what to have, but I do like the fact that they have a flavour wheel to help you decide. As I was not drinking I went for a reese's milkshake.....it was pretty epic. I love reese's anyway they are like my absolute guilty pleasure....that orange glow on the confectionary counter regularly gives me life....and in a milkshake it does not disappoint. Calorific but as a little treat why not! Our bar server was friendly and chatty and was quick to serve the drinks and offer any explanation we needed. The music was ok but the lighting in the venue was really something. Pink flashes of light down the walls give a nice high energy effect without being too intrusive/clubby. As I was writing this I am going from a four to a five star.....as cocktail bars go what more can you ask for. Great selection, friendly staff, prime location and as far as I understand it they are opening late a lot of the week. I have yet to try the food, so this review is reflective of the cocktails. The bar staff here are expert craftsmen. Every cocktail is made to perfection. The menu rotates seasonally, so enjoy a favorite until you pick a new favorite. If you like gin, this is the place for you. There is more gin on offer than I've ever seen in one place before. The upstairs even boasts a gin lounge with yet more selection. The deliciousness is in the details. Jekyll & Hyde made use of fun flavored alcohols, syrups, juices, herbs and spices. Each cocktail is shaken, stirred or muddled to be an explosion of flavor in your mouth and served up in a perfectly paired glass to suit. My first favorite drink here was called the Puss Puss Meow Meow. Served in a delicate tea cup, this drink was sweetie cute and oh so yummy. A fruity, fragrant concoction with floral gin notes. On the new menu I'm smitten with Strawberry Laces - served up with little twizzles of strawberry laces. Absolutely delicious. Also check out the French Connection - a warming drink which makes use of saffron gin and cinnamon. It tastes like a Sunday afternoon drifting through the warm countryside. The decor is well thought out and the tables and stools are adjustable for a pair or large group. It looks like a typical pub outside and is anything but inside.

The staff in here are excellent. I asked them to make me a non-alcoholic cocktail last night and was whipped up a gem for the eyes and tastebuds. However, again, if you don't get here in Happy Hour and want a cocktail - you're paying from £6.00+ - so not a cheap option for a night out. Last time I ate here (Booking is a must by the way, if you want to eat!), I had the Sea bass with Sanphire - which was fabulous. The Ginger cake dessert was lovely too. The lunch menu is quite reasonable (and there is a loyalty card scheme - meaning you can earn a free lunch if you eat out regularly). A MUST for Gin fans. Good for a night out with the girls or the start of a big night out. Aim for Happy Hour and keep in mind Thursday/Friday/Saturday is VERY busy (but - top tip - you can reserve tables in advance).

Honestly I would rate the food itself 3 stars, but we had a nice time and the service was good. However if looking for authentic Chinese cuisine, I would recommend to dine elsewhere. The restaurant is split into two sections across two floors: Yin (lower) and Yang (upper). Yin is the main part of the restaurant with artificial cherry blossoms and paintings. Yang has more of a classy feel. We sat at a booth by the cherry blossoms in Yin, which has lighting that poses a challenge for photos. We opted in for the Modern Sharing Tasting Menu priced at £70 per person. Over the timespan of 2.5 hours, three waves of courses were served. I included the regular prices from the à la carte menu. Assuming the portions were the same, the total was £148.45 compared to £140 for the two of us, so not a bad deal to sample a variety. Wave One: two Small Plates dishes ----- Tuna Sashimi Wontons: sesame, soy and avocado (£12.50). The fish was fresh and the shell was crisp, but the sauce was too heavy. ----- 1/2 Aromatic Duck Pancakes: Szechuan, cucumber and spring onion (£26). Duck was overcooked and dry. Accompaniments were standard. ----- Wave Two: two Large Plates and two Rice, Noodles and Vegetables dishes ----- Caramel Soy Aged Beef Fillet: UK premium aged beef, shiitake, ginger and asparagus (7oz for £39). Cook of the beef was adequate, although rather tough to chew. ----- Char Siu Honey Glazed Monkfish: morning glory, caramel orange and pickled cucumber (£33.95). An interesting choice of meat to marinate in char siu sauce. Fish was not juicy but it was good. ----- Tenderstem Broccoli: black sesame and truffle (£8). Vegetables were soft, although the black sesame paste was a bit odd. ----- Duck Egg and Chinese Sausage Fried Rice (£8). A bit oily but otherwise standard fried rice. ----- Wave Three: two Dessert dishes ----- Cherry Blossom: white chocolate, cherry and candyfloss (£11.50). Another dish that is presented with fog. The server allowed the request to swap this with the Banana Fritters (£9) at no extra charge. The chocolate tree and base was rich and smooth. ----- White Chocolate Dragon Egg: coconut, passionfruit and mango (£9.50). We liked the presentation of the dragon egg. Dessert itself was fruity and tasty. ----- In addition, two drinks were ordered. ----- Eastern Dragon: 135 East Gin, raspberry and apple (£18). Pricey but I quite liked the drink, which was sweet and light on alcohol. It also came served in a decorative, lit box a full of fog. ----- Hidden Dragon: mint, ginger and agave (£6). ----- Our reservation was for 6 PM on a Wednesday, and were easily seated when arriving an hour early as the restaurant was empty. Tables quickly filled shortly after but the restaurant has ample seating to accommodate walk-ins. A bottle of sparkling water costs £4.50 and a 10% service charge is added to the bill. The recommended dress code is smart casual, but I did spot people wearing plain solid-colored shirts.
