The food is all locally and sustainably sourced, so it's a fairly guilt-free way to eat, calories notwithstanding! Many of the pies are made in house rather than ordered from a supplier, so it is always worth asking if there is something special to try. Portions are big so you probably won't need to go near the large options unless you're sharing. Prices are pretty cheap considering the quality and quantity of the food, and there is ample parking out back, particuarly useful if you choose to sit in the small cafe that adjoins to the takeaway.

Assured that it was a good one by a passerby I ordered cod and chips and it was served up barely after I had sat down to wait the customary 10 or so minutes. Not a good sign. The chips were ok, although definitely not on the "freshly cooked" side. But the fish was the worst I have eaten in my 49 years. It gives me no pleasure to leave negative views but by the time I realised how bad it was...grey, over cooked and abysmal, the night was too cold and I was too far away to do anything other than munch some chips and dispose of it. All I can hope is I don't get sick tomorrow. If this review ever gets back to them I hope they sort that terrible muck out. I didn't even mention the soggy batter.

The reality is that this small shop tucked quietly around the corner from Mermaid Quay offers the crispiest of batter and the best cooked chips you will find in this part of town. You may well find yourself queuing up outside the door for service but if that doesn't tell you something, when you get inside the door and see how well kept the food preparation areas are, and then you are greeted by the friendly staff who are clearly rushed off of their feet, you will notice that the prices are very reasonable. This is a locally owned store rather than a large franchise and the quality of the freshly cooked fish really shows the difference. If you're in the bay and want this kind of take away food then you should definitely make the 2 minute journey away from the bay to give them a try.

Sometimes it can be a bit of a gamble though on what the chips are like, I always try and get mine from a fresh batch and always willing to wait. I'm not a fan of plastic containers in chippy's (bring back the newspaper!) so the fish can sometimes be a little soggy but still remains hot and tasty.
