I have been getting my insurance (auto, home and umbrella) from Chip Ott Agency since we moved to Chatham about thirty (30!) years ago, and continued to do so after I moved a few years ago to another county in NJ. My changes and claims over the years were handled promptly and professionally. More recently I have been working with Amanda Dunn. She is a gem! I used to call and often Amanda was the one who answered the phone. After we established email contact, I started just communicating via email instead. It's just easier for me. I can send a request or a question in the middle of the night and it's responded to first thing in the morning. If I send a question or request during the day, and her response is consistently lightening fast. It's impressive. Recently my son moved back to NJ (not Chatham) and he decided to get his renters and auto from them as well. He's a happy camper. Since he was already in the system from when he lived in Chatham. Everything was efficient and easy. With all the changes he and I each made in the last eight months, everything was done with Amanda. Efficiently and flawlessly. Thank you, Amanda. Why bother with all those companies with "hip" commercials when you can call your agent's office and talk to the same person each time (rather than a different representative each time you call some 800 number!) - someone who doesn't need to ask you to spell your name, or provide your address or policy number. Chip Ott and his staff are pleasant to work with while paying premium and discussing coverages....the problem comes when you really need them. Since State Farm's claims department is an exercise in chaos (new person, different response, every call), we were hoping for guidance from Chip and his team. But Chip was "on vacation" each time we reached out, four calls over two months. After 15 years of promptly paying home/auto policies, we had hopes for a little more. Is it time for Chip to return to work....or is he connected but not interested in helping State Farm's policyholders? The Maserati parked outside the agency would suggest the latter. Terrible agent! I've never been able to actually get Chip on the line. We were recently notified that due to a claim for which we were not at fault, we cannot renew our policy. Trying to get an explanation for this has been nearly impossible; the people working at his office can't seem to explain why we are being held responsible for something that we weren't at fault for. The best they were able to do was provide another number to call which led to a series of menus and answering machines. I will NEVER be using State Farm again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. read more
