I wasn't even sure where it was, and when I realised we were heading towards the Merrion Centre I was less inclined to jump aboard the Japanese food train. If looks were everything this place wouldn't be too busy. It looks kinda dingy from the outside, and whilst the inside has a certain charm about it, it's not the Ritz but doesn't profess itself to be so. Think of it as a Japanese eatery version of the local cafe. I was looking over the menu, contemplating what to order, and being particularly hungry, did my unusual thing of looking at starters. My friend just shook her all knowing head at me and pointed straight to the mains. Huh? Well what was cloudy became clear within about ten minutes, as my hearty noodle dish came, steaming and smelling divine, and flippin huge. Seriously, I was pleasantly surprised at this. Considering how quick our orders came, I was more than pleased to take in the taste and how fresh everything was. It didnt have that 'been stewing all day in a pot waiting to be warmed up and served' taste, nor did it have quick food microwaved crunchy in some places and soggy in parts texture either. Being a dork with coordination, but feeling self conscious at the people opting for the chop sticks, I was relieved when a fork was provided for me. There's a good hustle bustle vibe about Fuji Hiro's and whilst the staff are not rude, far from it, there's an efficient business like approach to providing awesome food to their hungry clients, even the ones who are yet to walk through the door. I won't lie the prices are a little steep.. I got salt and pepper squid tentacles at £7.90.. to be fair it was the only one we considered worth the money because the squid was nice and soft and you got a nice crisp from the thin coating on the outside, it tasted really nice but it was a little dry because it came with no dipping sauce or anything just to make it easier to swallow. We also ordered the ma lat beef, which tasted nice too but didn't have a kick when it said it was supposed to be spicy.. harbour king prawns which was also dry but in its defence i think it was supposed to be like that because the king prawns in it were beautifully cooked. The chicken in black bean sauce tasted nice and also the the won tons from the mixed starter to share were very good.. they did charge over £5 for a portion of bean sprouts and also the house special rice cost over £10. All in all I'd give it 3.5 stars but I though giving it three stars on here wouldn't be fair to knock their rating down. They also add on an optional 10% service charge onto your bill, so if you don't want to pay it then you have to check your bill properly, we chose to pay ours because in the end.. it was a nice evening out.

The first meal I had was their lamb chops from the grill, mash, and veg. I have to say, I was really impressed. The lamb chops were cooked beautifully, and had a lovely charcoal grill taste. The mash, which could easily have been smash I suppose, tasted lovely and buttery and the veg were freshly steamed and piping hot. Considering the cost, it was a really decent meal to order for tea - most of the time, getting a take away means eating more than you need, and isn't a healthy option. The second meal I had was their tikka masala. I opted for the chef special version, which was a quid more, just to see how special it was. It was pretty special. Made spicier than usual, it had a nice kick, and was well balanced. The only thing I wished was that it had more sauce for my rice. Chips were good, and plentiful. I'd been piggy, and ordered charcoal paneer too, which was an excellent choice. You get six huge pieces of paneer, herbed and charcoaled, and they were delicious. It all came with three little dips, garlic mayo, raita, and another red minty one, all of which were lush. They even gave me a wee salad box - nice touch! And nice try to keep me healthy, Lahore. Sadly I scoffed the other bits before I could think about being good to myself... Finally, although it's not rocket science, their milkshakes are to die for. I went for the Rolo shake, which was everything I desired it to be - sweet, chocolatey, caramel overtones, and blended really well. It cooled down the curry a treat, and I highly recommend you give 'em a go. I'll let you know - the milkshake actually swung the decision to get Lahore. I love a decent beverage selection! So, if you're in the area, or just want to avoid going shopping - this is a decent spot to grab a bite.

They offer a wide variety of choices to both meat lovers and vegetarians. They now seem to have a wider variety than the traditional Indian takeaway with serving from Flame grilled Steak to the Sponge cakes. Our personal favourite is their biryani and whether you are regular or not, you are served with a smile on their face. Their own website now offers you a loyalty reward system like supermarkets where you can claim points towards free food now. A good place worth trying if you dont really know where to order but still want at least decent food if not excellent

The broth was flavoursome and contained the usual half egg, sweetcorn, beansprouts etc. But I couldn't understand how my epic sized salmon was so drY despite it was submerged in a spicy pond. The shredded beef in my partners ramen dish was shredded so much that it had a "already chewed consistency" and seasoned oddly..so for the £8.50 it was...okay but I have had so much better for the price. Overall definitely give this place a go, pricing was reasonable..but I would try a non soupy dish for the main...

The ETA was for about 45 mins after I placed the order. An hour after I placed the order I tried calling, to find that the phone number wouldn't ring and would immediately say 'user busy'. I tried 105 more times just pressing redial, which took me up to an hour and a half after ordering. That's when I spoke to Deliveroo and they just offered to cancel it and refund - which is so infuriating when you're so hungry and have waited this long for food?! Then we ordered a huge McDonald's order. 2 hours and 20 minutes after I ordered the food, it showed up. 2 minutes after this my maccies showed up. I have no idea why they delivered the freezing cold food. And the delivery driver mumbled 'sorry for your wait' and walked off. Don't bother ordering delivery.

This isn't a sit down affair really, though they have seats and at first you'll look at the price and the size of the takeaway pot and you'll think nah! But you'd be wrong, because as i've said: You must go. Though the purist in me says that perhaps it lacks the authenticity of Fuji Hiro (which is of course a sit down affair) or the crazy taste sensations of Wok On (which still suffers in comparison believe me!). It makes up for it with a) the amazing buy one get one free deal they keep remarkably secret and b) the fact they have mastered the ancient art of replacing every inch of air in a box with noodles. Dear god the amount of noodles. I'm used to ordering large boxes from these sorts of establishments just to get my lunch worth but i was truly beaten by the portion i received here. To make matters worse it was buy one get one free so i'd forced a friend with a normal appetite to super size his lunch. For a small takeaway at the side of a supermarket i was feeling suddenly decadent. Its convenient, its nice enough to sit if you've the opportunity. He also earned points from me by putting us next to the radiator! We both opted for the early bird menu, a starter and a main for 8.50. I decided on aloo patties and a vegetable makhi, the boyfriend chose meat samosas and chicken rogan josh. This was a brave choice for me, i.e. not a korma, but it sounded mild. The starters were lovely, although sadly the boyfriend found a bit of plastic in his salad. It was an unfortunate moment, but the food itself was lovely and the waiter handled it well by giving us drinks on the house. This was a nice change from other responses I have seen from waiting staff when something has gone awry (my favourite being the waitress who when being advised of a silverfish ON the dining table simply squashed it into the tablecloth and then announced 'There are no silverfish in this establishment madam'!). With the mains, we both had an order of pilau rice and a garlic naan. It seemed a lot as it approached the table on a trolley, but it was just the right size. My curry was gorgeous, mild without being insipid with a nice quantity and selection of veg. The garlic naan was slightly crispy but not burned. I was very happy. I may even venture over again, though I may ensure next time that I take a book to carry me through the video game preview.
