With my friend. We ordered Gongbaojiding, Disanxian, Kourou. It's delicious and maked me feel homesick. It's totally a valuable experience.

The most delicious Chinese food that I have ever tried in the UK. It's easy to find the restaurant. Also the service is nice. We ordered some traditional spicy food and had a very good time.

It's pay day so another excuse to go lord it about around the city again. So what have we got here near the clutches of the Electric Press. Oh nice, it's red Chilli. There are so many different types of cuisines on hand in Leeds, it's hard not to eat around the world. So Beijing and Sichuan dishes sound like a plan to me, Stan. It's a great venue especially for a gaggle of loud, over bearing girls. Not saying that's what my friends and I am but hey if the Yorkshire cap fits. With a nice traditional feel it's splattered with lots of red, black and mirrors to feel really cosy. As for the menu...it's MASSIVE. When I say big, I'm not talking your fisherman's it was this big, I'm talking really really gigantic. Delicious combinations of foods I've not really had before and even mock fish!?! No it's not a kipper impersonating a pig, it's vegetarian fish and oddly lovely. You can set menu it up. A nice touch is their first date and courtship titled meals. Not sure they have one for nine pints of lager and a bit too drunk though. The main selections of food expand and expand so you'll be able to go back and try something new for quite some time. Excellent service, cracking food and brilliant wine. What's not to love.

I had a cold meat dish starter and mutton main with a side of egg fried rice and a pina colada

I've been here one time a few years ago for a friend's graduation dinner, the food and service were just as I remembered, friendly staff and authentic Asian food. The food was really great, and very spicy, very much to my taste.

Ho's Chinese Restaurant

Ho's Chinese Restaurant

Located on Vicar Lane, Ho's Bar & Restaurant is open seven days a week, serving a mixture of Chinese and Szechuan cuisine. When entering the restaurant, there were a few promising signs. Firstly, most of the clientele were Chinese, the sounds of their beautiful language wafting through the air. This does prove a certain degree of faith in the quality of the cooking. The decor was inviting, the darkness of the room making the black and red tones seem sultry and rich. Through sheer laziness and after being lured by the value, we decided to go for the set dinner for two people. After ordering, we were swiftly presented with some appetising chicken and sweetcorn soup. The dish was very sweet, but not synthetically so, the freshness of the vegetable exuded natural sugars. On its completion, a plate of spring rolls and honey-glazed ribs arrived, accompanied with some seaweed. The spring rolls were unrecognisable from the greasy and innocuous abominations served at shoddy buffets across the country, the crunchiness of the vegetables provided a pleasant surprise. I often find eating ribs to be a messy process, resulting in dirty fingers and a lingering hunger. The example at Ho's was the inverse of this, with the large quantity of meat slipping off the bone. The seaweed was slightly too sugary, but this was a minor quibble. The main course comprised of sweet and sour pork, beef with green peppers in black bean sauce and some egg fried rice. Although we found the pork slightly chewy, the generous wedges of chargrilled pineapple were delicious. The beef dish was packed with flavour, the garlic perfectly complimenting the saltiness of the black beans. There was not a hint of greasiness in the rice, and the egg was light and fluffy. The monetary value of this feast was extraordinary. From a venue which I consider to be of genuine quality, as opposed to the copious amount of imposters crowding the high street with gloopy sauces and limp vegetables, the entire meal cost £15. I think if we had ordered our favourite dishes from the menu instead of being tempted by the convenience of the set menu, Ho's may have received even higher praise. This is a sterling excuse to revisit Ho's however, something I shall be doing expeditiously.

We started with a chicken and sweetcorn soup and mixed plate of prawn toast, ribs, crispy wantons, spring rolls and the most delicious seaweed i've ever had! Then we had three main dishes to share, lamb, beef and crispy chicken. We finished with a plate of fresh fruit to share. The service was quick, polite and very friendly. A lot of the customers in the restaurant were chinese so in my book, this shows that it must be good! The restaurant is upstairs in the building as downstairs there is a bakery. I didn't get chance to look down here as we were pushed for time but it was really busy throughout our meal. We sat on a balcony part that overlooks the bakery and the decor is black, red and beech. It looks really stylish inside and would be a great place for a special meal.

Crown Buffet - Mushroom dumpling. Delicious!

Having finally climbed down from the ceiling after my last pink gloop injection at Crown Buffet I…read morehave decided to give it a review...and I was rather surprised to find myself the first to do so. Can it be that only a select band of us are propping this business up with our monthly pilgrimage to Pork and Prawn Land? Or is it simply that the regular clientele are so coked up on MSG that they are too syndactylus to operate a keyboard. Both are viable explanations. To find Crown Buffet you will need to wander into the ZombieLand behind the bottom of the Headrow, where once there was a thriving Chinese community with supermarkets, restaurants and a crackingly kitsch pool hall. Thankfully Leeds Council stepped in to 'redevelop' the area. So now there's nothing. In true Never Ending Story style you have to walk past 'The Nothing', under the ring road and there amongst the Squirrel Storage (who knew they had gone high tech?), abandoned office blocks and people who want to save on parking and are prepared to walk you will find a fantastic old school board building that has been converted into the only functioning chinese restaurant in the area. Crown Buffet is not going to win any internal style awards, unlike my digestive system- which I have been told personally by a Gastroenterologist is "Fabulous!". Think school canteen where the children get to eat nought but sugar and you have the idea....in fact you have the review right there. For around £6 during the day and £10 after 6pm you can gorge your sweet ass senseless on some frankly pretty well prepared, cleanly presented and varied Chinese and Mongolian classics. And there was me thinking I would never ever get to use the term 'Mongolian classics' in my entire literary experience. There's even a Mongolian grill where you can pick your meats and choose from exponentially hotter sauces to be combined in front of you by a very warm person wielding a very large pan over a very large flame for your amusements. And there's a wide choice of pudding from fruit to cake to ice cream. So why just 3 stars? Well I just can't get past the bright lightbulbs, trestle tables and overwhelming feeling that I'm sitting at an oriental Butlin's feeding trough. The food is GREAT, the staff are friendly and you'll waddle home hugely content if not more than a little uncomfortable but it lacks that one key thing.....being an actually vaguely Chinese experience. Come on Crown Buffet. Give me a few fans on the walls, a splash of red, some plant life and that Whitney Houston type singer belting out show tunes in Mandarin as I cram your various good and tasty things into my excited maw. Or at least give me chopsticks. Pretty please?

So, we decided on take-away. Normally we'd go for pizza or Thai, but we were feeling a little adventurous so we decided to look up Chinese take-aways on Yelp. It's my joy to report that having spotted all the grand reviews for China Jade we took a punt and it was just the job. I'm a creature of habit so I went for my usual (when I'm in Gloucestershire it's what we always have) which is a Special Curry and Special Fried Rice. My boyfriend went for something slightly more adventurous and had a Japanese Bento Box. The whole order came to around £25, which was fine as we had ordered enough food for over three people! My dishes were beautiful and utterly packed with bits, there was no scrimping on the meat and it was all pretty delicious. To my boyfriend's delight there was a lot of fish related items in my curry, which went straight on his plate as I'm not keen, and his Bento box was like a TV Dinner from the land of Plenty. He had a huge salad, breaded chicken slices, rice, little parcels of I-don't-know-what (devoured before I got a look in!) and a pot of Miso soup. I was full after about half of of my dishes, as the curry also came with chips, so was decidedly sensible and left it after that. Of course, my boyfriend continued to pick at the food for the next few hours and felt overly full afterward, but we were utterly satisfied. Service was friendly and I thought the prices were really reasonable so I was really happy. Yum!

I'd b3 happier if the just gave me the chips and were honest about it or I could've waited for them to make the order right, but no! They have to deceive. Added to that front of house staff not particularly friendly and order is rarely ready when they say it will be. If this was my business they'd be some P45s flying around. Avoid if you have allergies, not worth the risk.
