Appointments are hard to come by and you are limited to four per semester if you're lucky enough to snag them, but you get a full hour in a relaxing environment. I haven't had a ton of massages, but both of the students I've seen over the last year have blown the professionals I've visited out of the water for half the price. When I first signed up for a massage here I pictured a more clinical/classroom-like setting. In reality, they've really tried to make it as much like a typical massage place as possible. There's lots of soothing music, muted shades of tan and taupe, wall sconces, baskets of decorative knick-knacks, etc. Where things get different is that you may have an instructor pop in on your session to observe or offer guidance; I've had this happen once in six visits (but that was when I was super jacked up and was probably one of the more challenging cases of the day). You also fill out an evaluation form after, but that takes only a minute or two. I've come in seeking more therapy than relaxation and the therapists I've had have been game for for concentrating on my problem areas instead of sticking to a full body massage or just integrating what they're working on that week. My most recent trips have had some nice practice perks like aromatherapy and hot towels at no additional cost. Due to the lower cost I was able to visit several times with only a couple weeks in between and build on the work done for some huge knots to the point they've almost disappeared. Be sure to arrive early so you don't ever feel rushed at any point. Then you can explain the problem areas for your therapist and they'll leave while you undress to your comfort. I really loved sinking into the table and just breathing deeply, not thinking for a while, and getting all of those knots and pressure points worked on. The oils smelled nice and the therapist was really great at hitting the pressure points while also being responsive to anything that pinched or made me wince a bit. My only weird critique is with the music, which was all chimes or ambient white noise, and I have found that I relax better with ocean noises or sounds of nature. Maybe if we could pick a sound?
