This restaurant is at the corner of Highway 290 and 36. It is tucked into a very large strip center with numerous other businesses. Upon entering you'll notice the place is dimly lit with a very humid atmosphere due to all the steamed offerings. It's also got a note of grunginess throughout the restaurant, which is most noticeable in the bathrooms. Let's just say the ambience here is very lacking, but people don't come here to take in the surroundings, they come here to stuff their face. It's definitely a very popular place with the locals here in Brenham. They have some offerings of sushi, four soups, and free ice cream (from Walmart), but I was surprised that there was no beef and broccoli offering, which is usually a common staple at any Chinese buffet. They also do not serve slices of pizza, but they do have some fried chicken wings. Their potstickers were pretty outstanding, but they're hot and sour soup was not. However, for $12 a person w/o tax or tip, you really can't go wrong.

Can't figure out why this only had a 3 star rating. The food is delicious! Just ask my granddaughter.

Not sure why it only has a 3 star rating because my family loved the buffet! Plenty to choose from and great flavors! Definitely a redo.

Official. So far the worst Chinese restaurant I have been to. May have to work hard to beat this bad experience.

I driven past various locations of Hartz for years now, and have been intrigued by idea of a fried…read morechicken buffet, because I love fried chicken. It saddens me to admit that my appetite no longer seems to justify a $14 expense of an all you can eat. The chicken was pretty good. It reminds me of Bush's; good sized pieces, good crust, not very assertive in terms of seasoning (which some might call bland). The bone-in chicken was fresh, hot, and replenished frequently. The tenders were good. I wasn't hungry enough to try everything on the buffet, but if you are, it's probably a good deal. They have a slightly wimpy but adequate salad bar, and a nice array of hot sides. The mashed potatoes were good, you could choose between cream or brown gravy, and the other sides looked good. A buffet that includes the drink is a nice touch. The service was not great. My not very friendly cashier gave me a styrofoam plate (school lunch leftovers I think, with a section marked MILK, ), but not a real tray, and gave no explanation on how to approach seconds at the buffet. While I was there, two different customers had to go ask for a new plate, and almost always had to wait because the cashier was busy elsewhere. When I knocked over my drink, I mopped up what I could with napkins then notified the counter people. They were so unrestrained I wasn't sure they'd even heard me, but one did grab a mop and bucket. I apologized to them as they cleaned up, but no one ever said anything. I don't expect them to be happy about an extra clean up, but decent customer service requires at least acknowledging an embarrassed and apologetic customer!!

This place is great. For the price of $14/per person, this pricing comes with all you can eat…read morebuffet and a drink...You can't beat that! And the food were fresh. The staff were very friendly and nice and always had a smile. Even with the place being packed, they were very attentive to their customers needs and the place is clean. I would come back here to this location again!

We have noticed this place several times on our travels back and forth between our home NW of…read moreAustin and our grandchildren in Houston. I always try to be supportive of small, locally owned businesses everywhere I go. Look at some of my other reviews, it will bear this out. For once, it wasn't a Sunday when we were passing by and we weren't in a hurry, so we thought we'd stop for lunch. It looks like everything you'd expect for a barbecue restaurant. Everything rustic and country. There was a menu painted on the wall with no prices anywhere. They have a nice selection of sides in meats. My wife ordered the 2 Meat Plate with Brisket and Sausage, Potato Salad and Pinto beans. I was thinking about Pork Butt; however, when I saw it , I decided to pass. Strike 1! I ordered the Brisket Plate with Black -Eyed Peas and Coleslaw. When the young woman handed it to me, It had Pintos on it rather than Black-Eyed Peas. When I cited the error she indignantly snapped, "That's what you ordered!" Strike 2! (who argues with civil paying customers?) I said, " I'm not trying to be any trouble. I just want what I ordered." at which point the older woman told her to give me a side of Black-Eyed Peas, which at this point seemed completely academic. We found a table, found our way to the drinks and also to the Barbecue Sauce and various condiments. I really wish I could say that this was the best Barbecue that I ever put in my mouth but unfortunately, I have to say just the opposite. Strike 3! This is singularly the worst barbecue experience that I have ever had anywhere in Texas or elsewhere in the country. The Brisket was gray, dry, and there wasn't a smoke ring in sight. It was no better than the Pork Butt had looked to me, in fact it was probably worse. My wife loves Sausage and she is not as discriminating about it as I am, but she said that was the worst Sausage she ever bought from a Barbecue Restaurant in her life, and she's the lifelong Texan in this couple, not me. I see mixed reviews out there besides my own and I'm wondering if perhaps the problem here is just inconsistency with the food because other than that and the little service blip, this wasn't a horrible meal but it was pretty far from a good one. Sorry Nathan's, I so wanted to like you.

We came here for late lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty empty. It is attached to a gas station,…read morebut has their own entrance (you can also enter through the gas station as they connect on the inside as well) and a BBQ pit that you can look at through a window (it wasn't that exciting). They menu is right when you enter and then you grab a tray. I got some meat by the pound and really enjoyed the burnt ends! The sliced brisket I got on the other hand, was pretty dry. I loved that you get a drink included with your purchase. There was plenty of room to sit inside and you buss your own table at the end. The staff was friendly and there was ample parking in the back for this place and the gas station it is attached to.
