Took my sister for lunch for her Birthday a couple of weeks ago, we both loved the food and service. Very pleasant. I had the mushroom beef, was very tasty and loved the pork fried rice. My sister had the shrimp foo yung and said she would come back again and order the same thing she had. With the experience we had and how great the food was we will definitely go back again. I have, never, in my life, been served flour tortilla with mu shu, until now. I had a craving for Chinese food, so I decided to try this place for take out. Went with mu shu, not only because it's my favorite but it's pretty hard to mess up. Or so I thought. I was absolutely horrified when I unwrapped the packaging to find flour Tortillas, not rice wrappers. I thought I was having a stroke- did they give me someone else's order? Did I accidentally order a deconstructed burrito? Tacos? No. There was hoisen sauce, so it wasn't a mistake. I was too tired to call and ask what sort of sick, twisted joke this was. Went in to prime up take out. The young man working up front was extremely rude and acted as though it was an inconvenience to help me. They have all kinds of small uncharged for simple things that go with your food at every other Chinese restaurant. Then, on a $125+ takeout order, they also charge a 3% fee for using a credit card. First impression, and I hate to say this bc I understand restaurant work can be frustrating, but the young man on the phone was just rude. I didn't realize they take the card payment at my car not over the phone, so I called when I arrived to pay. He just kept saying "I'll bring it out when it's ready!" I was so confused! Take my money! lol anyways they take the payment at your car not over the phone. Huge portions so if you're hungry then definitely check this place out. Egg fu young patties are the pan fried type not deep fried, sauce is thicken chicken stock. I wish the sauce had more seasoning. Lots of veggies inside the patties onion, bean sprouts, carrots, and a Lot of celery.The shrimp in the egg fu young are tiny salad shrimp but seems plentiful enough. Good food, have been coming here for takeout for years always been good but now they have a server/ cashier that has as much personality as a rock... the worst I've ever dealt with in all my years of eating out... I sure hope that they figure out when they lose business because of this no personality at all person to do something about it..... We have been going to China West for many years. Covid made a big change but they are still in business. I want to compliment the young woman that works there. Food is very good, take out is always ready in a short time from called in. I lost my keys today, bad weather and I knew I had to have them to open my car with my order. I could not find them. I went back inside to see if they had been picked up outside and returned to the desk. At 79 my mind is a little foggy sometimes. The young lady came outside in the bad weather and helped me look, no keys. I continued to look knowing I had to unlock my car. She came out again while people inside had made a suggestion where they might be. She opened my door and lifted my bag with two orders in it and there they were. Never eat here. Just don't do it. My boyfriend and his family have been getting takeout from China West for years. The food tastes fine but my boyfriend got served RAW chicken earlier this week and now he has horrible food poisoning that has lasted more than 48 hours so far. I wasn't going to write a review because I thought people make mistakes and I shouldn't judge the whole restaurant based off of one bad takeout. But then I remembered that probably about 2 years ago we got takeout from China West and they served us RAW SHRIMP. We don't even go to this restaurant very often so it blows my mind that they have served the same customers raw food twice. This is inexcusable. Came here for Mother's Day and was very disappointed! The woman waitress was quite rude and unsociable, the food was very greasy and tasteless, and the restaurant atmosphere was not very inviting or comfortable (music coming from the bar was very loud). It didn't feel like I was in a Chinese restaurant, the atmosphere was dreary and depressing. I watched the waitress hand out mother's day roses to the other 2 women customers but I wasn't given one nor even asked. She was very unfriendly and I will NOT ever go back their. Low grade dog food would be an upgrade for this dump. They give you unwrapped fortune cookies from their waitress apron. The chicken chow mien was onions and sprouts. The steak was cold and inedible. 2" horribly tasteless breading on the shrimp. Cold barbecued pork. Don't even get me started on the server. He can't get a job at the local comedy club, so he works there. Asked for sweet and sour sauce for the shrimp, and was told no. No plates, we asked for them, but he would not get us any. This place is seriously HORRIBLE!!!! Will NEVER be back. Ordered their house fried rice, received it and only had a cut up beef stick and a couple shrimp. No chicken, pork or beef. Sent it back, and when it came back, there was no shrimp. The broccoli beef had two servings of beef and the rest was undercooked broccoli. We ordered 5 different plates of food, 1 being the appetizers. My plates literally came 1 at a time and 10 minutes apart. My kids tasted the food, and opted for the white rice. My kids love Chinese food, and they requested to never go back. There was a table across the restaurant from us, and they talked so loud we were included in the conversation. They used foul language, with kids in the restaurant and didn't care. I couldn't hold a conversation with my kids because they couldn't hear me from the other group. You should go into this place thinking of it as a stereotypical Chinese food and not expecting more than mall food, you're in good shape. There are definitely no high expectations here. the service was really slow tonight and a bit disappointing. I've never had anything besides the hot pepper beef myself. The first time I went the food was barely spicy. Tonight the pepper beef was quite spicy. I've tried a bit of the sweet and sour chicken and it's very commercialized tasting. Portions are huge, vegetables fresh and crisp and fried things light and crunchy. sauces tend to be over applied, but that can be fixed: use the serving spoon as something other than a shovel and it al balances out. The battered shrimp had a raw taste to it probably because the chicken was cooked in it. It had the same batter too. I stopped by because I always see a lot of cars. They're all at the bar so don't be fooled into thinking that all of the customers are eating inside. The host was super friendly and so accommodating but the food was the worst I have ever eaten as far as sweet and sour shrimp, chow mein, special chicken? The pork charsui was cold and old tasting. First, the Almond Fried chicken was pre-breaded taste like something you would get from the Schwans guy. Gravy was yellow so I think it was made with bouillon and no crushed, roasted almonds. China West had been my go to for Chinese in Port Orchard for for 30 years. Doesn't matter what I order, it is always terrific! Their Egg Foo Yung is the best I've found in Kitsap County. My family loves the scratch made Pan Stickers. The staff at this family run restaurant is always friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that the restaurant closes at 8 and I have to go elsewhere when I have a craving later in the evening. We will always be China West customers. read more

Looking for a fair good meal, this is typical American Chinese. The best way I can describe it as everyday American Chinese food. Nothing like ' Wow ! ' but basic good food and I have always liked the portions $ / size seemed well done - a speed dial on the TAKE OUT CHINESE for the Greater Port Orchard Metropolitan location. We haven't eaten here in a long time but we remembered it being pretty good previously. We ordered take-out this evening and to say it was disappointing would be an understatement. Everything had a strong, weird aftertaste of what could only be described as chemical or possibly soapy, especially the breaded food. I don't know if it's from the water, the oil or something else but it was entirely inedible. No one could eat it.$80 worth of food into the garbage! The batter on the shrimp and chicken was horribly stale as well as the rice. Even salt didn't help the Chow Mein.The soy sauce and hot mustard did not help a bit. Hate reading "bad" reviews of China West. Guess it just depends on the day and time. We go to China West quite often, my granddaughter and her fiance even come from North Tacoma to eat here. We've never been disappointed in the food. As for prices - well, for the amount and quality of the food, we all feel it is very reasonably priced. I love the unique pictures on the walls and will spend my "waiting" time walking through the restaurant to admire the wall art. My opinion?
