We drive I-64 both ways a couple of times each year and are usually looking for lunch in western Kentucky on our way east. This time we got a late start and were hungry before we reached Louisville, so pulled off at Ferdinand and stumbled into China Garden while looking for some other place. We are always fine with Chinese for lunch. China Garden serves typical strip mall Chinese food. It is not profound but was fine for our needs. Ms T ordered Chicken with Vegetables. I ordered Szechuan Chicken, extra spicy. I would say both dishes were a little bland and needed a little work. There was not much heat or Szechuan pepper in my dish, but they provided a cup of crispy fried chile so I could add what I wanted. The vegetables in my dish were plentiful and were left nice and crispy. The servings were huge for a lunch, so we took half with us and had Chinese for dinner in our hotel. If the sauces were a little richer and more flavorful, this would be a four-star place. For our meals on this day, I will award three stars which used to be considered A-OK before the drive for ratings inflation. Don't let this dissuade you from trying it. read more

Restaurant was very clean, bathrooms were clean, food options were pretty on-par for American Chinese food as well as great prices for portion size. My food also came out in 10 minutes which was great since they were a little busy. I also liked that they have a pt. and qt. options for menu items so you can get a bit of variety without spending a lot. I got vegetable fried rice and roast pork lo mein- the veggies tasted fresh and the pork wasn't dry. Too bad I'll only get to come here again next time I'm traveling across states read more

Most of the food I've had here is pretty good. The service is walk up and order, so there is that. The inside is clean. Mid western authentic lol. I've had authentic Chinese , but I'm not complaining. read more

Was not impressed i want fresh food not frozen reheated only thing was good was the won ton soup will not return.

Hot inside, they seem disappointed your eating in with flimsy plastic cutlery and tiny napkins. Everything felt sticky and booth not whipped down from last guest. Order at the counter and get your food in to go containers and you can place on your cheap styrofoam plate. For 30.00 for two ,expected maybe better. Charge you for water and over charged water at that at. Food (orange chicken) was hot after 2nd attempt, which I was told they fried it too long. Not a culinary expert, but seems not cooked fresh and they hit it with a microwave or something was wrong as it was tough and chewy, round two came out super fast and 100% better but not given new rice. Everything is prepared when ordered. It is always fresh, fast and delicious. No buffet but everything I've had has always been great!

My steamed shrimp with mixed veg was great. Unlike what I've experienced at many other places of the sort, nothing was overcooked, the sauce was neither too salty nor too thick, and the shrimp were a decent size. Very good Chinese food, especially for southern Indiana. I've only had one not-so-great experience: they put mushrooms in something after I told them I'm allergic to mushrooms. That happened once in six years, though. I highly recommend China Garden! read more

After moving away to a place with more Chinese Food options, and then coming back to Ferdinand and having a meal at China Garden, I realized just how fresh the food is here. Hence the upgrade from 4 stars to 5 stars. Sometimes you need a little comparison to realize how good something is. Stopped here during a road trip as the reviews sounded pretty good. This is not a sit down restaurant. You order at the counter like fast food. Ordered Hunan Beef $6.95 came with rice and egg roll. Also ordered the Cashew Chicken $6.95 came with rice and egg roll. The egg rolls were not very good and the two entrees although they were plentiful, just tasted like Chinese fast food. Two for lunch was over $20. I would most likely pass next time. read more

What the other review has stated is beyond the truth. Non-buffet style is different, however somewhat disappointing. They have the simple Chinese mainstays and those dishes were middle of the road. Pulled off freeway and saw China Garden near Micky D's and was up for an Asian meal. Not expecting anything great but was pleasantly surprised. The food was better than anything I get in Fallbrook, CA and is on par with those in San Diego's Asian district. No WiFi service. read more
