I bought a groupon for chimney pro for a cleaning and inspection. I did not get a full inspection as the technician did not have a camera and he was not permitted by company. in addition to the coat of the Groupon, I had to pay for every foot over 12 feet. I had to call another company for a chimney inspection. they inspected the chimney, crown and cap. supplied pictures. imagine our surprise when the top seven feet of the chimney had not been cleaned. pictures were supplied. I will not use or recommend this company read more

I guess I should be lucky he even did the work, but ended up charging over $5K to install a $1300 unit. I also specifically asked for one that didn't have a pilot and after install, sure enough, it was a one WITH the pilot option. We also started this in May and took through October of 23 to get it done. 2 years later the fireplace is dead and the entire insert needs replacement read more

Prompt. Arrived on time. And explained what was he was doing. I will definitely use again.

James Black is a thief! He took our $500 deposit and never performed the work or provided the parts purchased through his company. Do not use Chimney Pro or Chimney Pro LLC. read more

Do not use this man, James Kenneth Black, or his business, Chimney Pro and Chimney Pro LLC, as they will steal your money as they did me. I have contacted Mr. Black many times in an attempt to have either the work completed or refund my money. Every time he had just another excuse why he couldn't work. Be warned! Check all the others he has stolen from!! read more

James Black is an absolute crook and a Coward of a man! Entered my home, looked me in the eyes, shook my hand, lied to us, took our money and has provided no service of any kind. Please take the time to go on the BBB website (F standing) and review the 15+ complaints of lies and fraud outstanding on this thief. Came into my house on 1/13/20 to look at our gas fireplace. After diagnosing our issues, he suggested that it would be better to replace our entire unit instead of very old parts, understandable. He quoted us $1400 (parts/labor) and he asked for half ($700) up front and would only accept cash/check for a "discounted price". Since then he has missed or rescheduled numerous installation appointments. He has declined several attempts at our request for a refund. Most recently he has blocked both me and my wives numbers. Update: (12/18/20) Took the advice of another Fireplace Company and opened a warrant for his arrest for theft. We were told by the police to encourage anyone that has dealt with him and been scammed to file a complaint with their local police department. The more victims that file reports, the more likely he is to be jailed once found. It literally took 15min to file the report due to existing complaints that have been filed. Chimney pro - Chimney Sweeps Near Me

After giving him $400 deposit, it took weeks for him to come back to do the job. A million excuses. He was supposed to come back to give tutorial on gas logs he installed and cover chimney, we were ghosted. Not reliable and I feel we were overcharged. We had to figure it out ourselves, don't have receipt for logs he purchased for us if there is a problem and he didn't place all the logs properly. We fixed it and paid another Chimney Co. (Max Roofing) to cover our chimney. read more

exceptionalLu well qualified and helpful. he saved me a substantial amount of money by repairing my current equipment.

I regret giving a deposit. 2 months later no replies to text or calls. I Should have checked Yelp and or BBB. He has Terrible reviews. read more

This company is a first class con. Do NOT contact them. They will act like they are helping you but will totally take advantage of you and take your money. I have been waiting seven months for gas logs and can not get this company to deliver or even reimburse my deposit. read more

This company is definitely not recommended. A deposit was paid in March 2022 for a chimney cap. As of the end of November 2022, the cap has not been installed. James bounces from not replying to requests for updates or simply lies by offering dates that are never kept. Apparently, this company has a reputation for taking deposits but not completing the work or refunding the deposit. read more

Be careful, I called him he stopped by, looked at the fireplace, brought in no tools but gave me an estimate and he needed half down, I gave him a check and that is the last I heard from him. I called many times and left many messages and then I checked BBB read more

I'm a contractor and was given James Black's card by a real estate agent. I do not ever leave reviews, but promised James I would... James came out to repair a fireplace, the next day the repair he made was cracking everywhere. I called and texted him for weeks to come back and fix it. I received every excuse you can imagine until he no longer responded. DO NOT call this guy - he will lie, never shower up, rip you off, and do an awful job. Not sure how he is in business and continues to do this to people. Wish I read all these other reviews before accepting this referral and will tell this agent to stop recommending him. Absolute con artist, sounds like a great guy on the phone, very nice... Do not be fooled. read more

I really hate to do these reviews, but I need to warn others as I have not received my money back $825.00. He seemed like a great guy. I have been trying to get gas logs installed and weatherization in my chimney since early March. I have given Chimney Pro plenty of opportunities to complete the work. Now I have asked for a refund for the last 2 weeks and he does not answer his texts or phone calls. Either overbooked, no helper, etc. I would like my refund and I shouldn't have to wait, as I did not wait to pay the deposit over 3 months ago... Likely going to have to take him to small claims court if I don't receive the refund. read more

10/7/2021 James Black from Chimney Pro came to my home, showed me a catalog for chimney repairing and picked up $785 deposit. 10/8/2021 he deposited money to bank, waited until the fund available in account late days and then scheduled repairing date on 11/2/2021. He missed schedule on 11/2/2021 with excuse of unreceived custom chase cover next day. He said he would send an email to store in Pennsylvania where to make it. 11/4/2021 James replied my text message and said it was busiest time but he didn't forget me and would let me know when chase cover comes. since then he didn't reply my text messages and emails until 11/10/2021. 11/10/2021 he sent an email with attached pdf files without explanation. The files seemly showed lead time for several manufacturers. Since then he did not respond my text messages and emails again until Nov. 26, 2021. He said it's holiday weekend. If I want refund, he would gladly get the process going on. So I told him I want refund. He said I would receive refund before February, 2022. It was last info received from him. He disappears with no refund. Searched on web, his dishonest behavior has helped him cheating money for many years. Not sure who will be next target by this crook. How is he shamelessly living with this kind of life style and ruining our community. read more

Do not hire this guy! He is a thief and will take your money, not return to do the work. He will not return phone calls or texts after he steals your money. He comes off as a very trustworthy guy, do not believe him. He is a snake in the grass. read more

So bad I filed a criminal complaint. The magistrate thought it merited and arrest warrant with multiple charges. This is public knowledge.

James came to my parent's house quoted the work, took a deposit, and never completed the work. Do notuse his services as he is a crook.

James Black owes me $1700 for products never delivered because he didn't follow through on install date. Continued to come up with excuses why he couldn't get the job completed when he originally said he is schedule was open. He verbally admitted he got my refund money but had only paid back $500. I suppose he feels spending $1700 of someone else money is ok. Never give this person money upfront. He is dishonest and basically has stolen from me. I have now contacted an attorney and will follow through. He should not be in business. read more

James is definitely a scam artist and should not be in business. His story is that he needs a deposit to purchase the fireplace inserts. Will string you along for many weeks and then disappear. Never do business with the guy. read more

Another bad review for James Black and Chimney Pro LLC. I really wish I had read these reviews before I handed him a check for $1100. He never showed up to install our wood stove. Now he is promising a refund. I would love to be able to come back to this review and say we received our refund in full. If not, small claims court here we come! read more

Do not use/hire Mr. James Black or Chimney Pro (Kannapolis or Cornelius NC) as he will not do the work or refund deposit. I paid Mr. Black a deposit for gas logs for my fireplace on Jan. 22, 2023 of which he never even tried to do any of the work he was hired to do. I wish I had done some research on him before I called and so that's why I want to post here in case anyone is considering him/his company. I have contacted Mr. Black many times in an attempt to have either the work completed or refund my money. Every time he had just another excuse why he couldn't work. Sadly, he tries to manipulate you with the fake excuse of a baby in intensive care that supposedly his girlfriend just delivered. But after reading several reviews now, she must just keep delivering every year since he has used that excuse for years. When I told him that I was reporting him to the Better Business Bureau and going to write negative reviews on Yelp and Next Door App, he actually texted me back promising to come and install the logs. That was 4 days ago...and no word from him still, despite multiple attempts to reach him. Hoping I can stop others from making my same mistake. read more

DO NOT HIRE!!! Made appointments on SEVERAL occasions (3 or more) and did he not show without a call/text. He has not responded after many attempts to contact him. If I could rate this company no star I would. I contacted the owner of Chimney Pro LLC James Black, On 1/10/18 to service on my gas fire place in regards that my fireplace would light but not ignite. I have to click it on and off several times in order to get it to work. On 1/15/2018 Chimney Pro showed and was on time. I paid $165 dollars for service to my fireplace. I was told the worst case scenario I would need a sensor $170. There would be no charge to install this part and my receipt is good for the rest of the year to call back if any problems occur. 48 hrs later the fire place was no longer working at all. I contacted Chimney Pro several times by phone and received no call back. I emailed the company and left a message on the website and finally got this email from him on 2/7/18. I got your voicemail this morning but waiting to hear back from the distributer. Parts should be here any day now. James Black Owner/President of Chimney Pro LLC 704-791-9842 CSIA Certified #8763 Email: chimneync@gmail.com Website: www.chimneypronc.com OK, left more messages and still no return call from Chimney Pro LLC I left another message stating that "I needed to hear from them or I would be contacting the BBB", Today 2/21/2018 and still no response. All it takes is a little communication and I would not feel is if I am getting the run around or being ignored. My checked that I wrote to him he cashed the next day with no problem, not wasting anytime with that. But if you can not do the job, say you can't! If the part is in back order, say it is in back order if that is the case. Any day now has been over a month. Visited the BBB website Chimney Pro is NOT EVEN ACCREDITED with the BBB, but he post this BBB logo as if they are. read more

DO NOT TRUST JAMES BLACK (Chimney Pro LLC). He took my deposit on 10/12/2019 ... I am writing this review on 2/26/2020, so I believe I have been fairly patient. In all that time, I have not seen or spoken to him in person one time. This should be a red flag... he simply texts excuses and leads you on enough to make you think that he is still going to complete your job. This guy is a thief pure and simple and must be stopped. Don't let this happen to you as it has to me and so many others. The sad thing is that he grew up in the Concord area... he is stealing from his own community and doesn't seem to have a problem with it. read more
