Owned by the hotel chain Best Western, it's much more expensive than the average Premier Inn - a double room with breakfast included was £72, yet I didn't feel as though I was getting more quality. That being said, the parking was free and ample, staff were friendly, rooms were spotless, beds were comfortable and the breakfast options expansive and tasty. It was convenient for where we needed to be that evening but I'd prefer to stay somewhere equally as nice, but better value for money.

It turned out that a kitchen worker had put a cloth napkin into the microwave. The night before we left we asked whether we could check out an hour later, but were told that we could not because they were full up fort he next day and therefore would be very busy. When we checked in we were asked whether we wanted to pay in pounds or dollars. we said dollars, and that resulted in an additional 3.5% afee that had not been mentioned. We won't be back.

On top of that I paid £28 for an extra treatment (they gave me 20% off because it was a last minute booking). Crewe Hall is a very impressive building and as it was so quiet (we guessed Sunday might be their least busy night with few weddings or business events) we were able to look at many of its magnificent rooms. None of the rooms in the old part of the hotel were set up for guests to have a drink in though, which was a real shame. In the morning I saw the room next to the reception was open as some kind of lounge - I don't know why we couldn't access it on the Sunday but it seems to defeat the point of having the hotel in such a nice old building that you can't use it! Our room was in the modern block and was very comfortable, the sheets were very soft and we had the benefit both of nice big corner windows and effective black out curtains. The bathroom was modern and clean. The spa itself is nice. It does not have a very luxury feel - the brown bathrobes are a bit threadbare and the decor is not of the highest quality but it is peaceful and aside from the treatment beds being quite small (my 5'11 frame was hanging off the end!) well set up, apart from you have to walk outside to get there. My treatments were really good and the lady that did them was so nice and made it a really relaxing and pleasant experience. She was brilliant at the massage (which was enhanced by having the salt and oil scrub first, so my skin felt really smooth) and the facial felt amazing - my skin felt so refreshed afterwards. My friend reported exactly the same with her treatments. The pool is quite big - you can do proper lengths - although the acoustics are terrible so if people are crawling up and down it becomes super noisy which isn't very restful for those in the sauna and steam rooms which otherwise were particularly good - large, clean and hot! Service in the hotel in general is friendly and helpful although occasionally inattentive - they failed to get us any drinks during lunch, for example. The only thing we were really disappointed with was the food. This deal would be great value if the food was even just average but it's pretty poor. The lunchtime buffet was a bit weird - strange salad options like potato salad with capers and cold boiled rice with a few olives thrown in, and the only hot options was four different types of curry! What if you don't like curry?! We don't mind it but it's not ideal for a spa lunch. The taste itself wasn't great in any case. Profiteroles for dessert were quite nice but what I thought was a lemon tart turned out to be banana - might be helpful to mark options that aren't obvious because it was a shame to waste it. Overall I think for Sunday lunch they would far better off with a carvery, although for reasons explained below I would not trust them to do a good job. Our pimms was nice and the strawberries were fine although not great that they came straight from the refrigerator. Dinner was not great. We got a cheap bottle of red wine that was very drinkable but the food was not enjoyable. We tried the calamari and goats cheese balls to start. The former came with only three pieces for £6.50 which is rubbish value and weren't crisply fried either. The goats cheese balls were only about an inch in diameter and you only get two for £6.50! They did however taste really good. For mains I had the most tasteless pork belly I've had (which I picked because I thought surely this always has flavour!) plus some lukewarm mashed potato and insipid gravy. My friend got a spinach and feta pie which sounded nice but looked like it had been cooked hours earlier and apparently tasted bad. It was supposed to come with buttered new potatoes but instead just got some really unappealing looking plain quite big potatoes. Her side of chips was good but came with bad ketchup! We then got a warm chocolate brownie for dessert. We had to laugh as it came on a stone cold plate with strawberries and bits of honeycomb. To make a dessert dish like this partially in advance is so weird - it's not like there was fancy presentation of the sauce or anything. The main result is just that the honeycomb is cold and a bit soft! Breakfast was better with a wide selection including pastries, a fruit bar and cooked items but things like sausages and hash browns weren't done particularly well - former obviously cheap and hash browns a bit dry and not crisp. They confirmed the overall impression of the food being done for the absolutely cheapest price possible with loads of shortcuts being taken. Although £120 is good value for the room and spa alone, I would hesitate to go back because it takes away from the experience to have bad food.

We stayed two nights, Friday and Saturday We experienced the friendliest of service from start to finish. Really cozy and warmly decorated common rooms for reading, happy hour, socializing, etc. Great breakfast! Even better room service. We enjoyed their room service food so much that we had them pack us a 'to go' for the train back to London. The rooms are on the smaller side, but very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Simple and very clean. The town of Didsbury is only a short walk away and has everything you need for a lovely spring weekend. We will def. be back the next time we head to the Theatre of Dreams. :)

We stayed in the Willow and the Fuchsia which were both gorgeous however the Fuchsia for some reason had a coffee machine, dressing gown, and slippers and the Willow did not which was slightly odd as we payed the same price for both rooms. For around £30 a night you can expect spacious, well heated rooms with an ensuite bathroom, TV with Freeview, teas and coffees in the room and warm, friendly service from the management. We stayed here for 2 nights. We were well fed and well looked after. The staff are so friendly and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay. The reception and dining area are quaint and cosy, just like you'd want out of a countryside ranch. Loved the old fashioned patterned decor in the breakfast area! I would five star the breakfasts alone since they kept us fuelled up for most of the day - the staff cook up a storm and keep you stocked up on cups of tea. Well worth the money and perfect if you're planning on going through to Stoke or Alton Towers since it's only a few miles down the road. A great place to escape the busy nearby attractions - a slice of serenity for a fraction of the price.

The Alton Towers hotel is decked out in a cross between a nautical exploration theme and an old mansion/stately home. It is the one I would recommend to those who are travelling without kids or who can guarantee their kids won't run down the corridors. It is quiet. This hotel has a proper adult restaurant on the ground floor in case you feel like indulging. Splash Landings hotel, another resort hotel located a couple of hundred yards away, is a aimed more at younger families. It has an all-you-can-eat type restaurant and a water park located within the hotel. The same standards of service apply but it is a little rowdier as there are more young children around. Both hotels share their facilities and have a walkway between them to avoid having to brave the weather should you wish to avoid it.

We stayed at Alton Towers Splash Landings hotel for two nights and had two full days on the theme…read morepark as part of a package deal, from Monday 26 July 2010 until Wednesday 28th. The total price for three adults and 1 child, including free access to water park and early park access (an hour before opening to the public) was £427.04 including cancellation protection. Pre-paid package deal guests can get an additional third full day on the theme park for just £9 per person too. We arrived at the hotel around 11am on the Monday and were able to check in with reception, get our theme park tickets and head straight into the park, although our bags needed to stay in the car until later on, as officially, you can't check into your room until 3pm. At the same time, we booked a table for the evening all you can eat buffet at 9pm at the recommendation of the reception staff as other than the hotel's own restaurants, there isn't anywhere else to eat. Prices seemed a little steep at £16.00 for adults and £10.00 for kids, especially when Alton Towers consider children aged 12 years and above as adults. Anyway, we booked, picked up the tickets and headed straight for the park where we stayed until around 8pm. Hotel guests are given early access to the main park an hour before it opens to the public, which is great for beating the queues and getting onto the most popular rides before the place starts swimming with people. We virtually walked straight onto Ripsaw, Rita, Oblivion, Nemesis and Air all before 11.00am on the Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. When we got back to the hotel, getting our key and heading up to the room took less than a minute and we then had a chance to wander round and see what the hotel was like. Splash Landings has a Caribbean theme to it and it's brilliantly decorated throughout. The water park is attached to the hotel and because of it; you get the distinct whiff of chlorine as you wander round but it's not unpleasant at all. Can't comment on the water park though because we didn't end up going in at all! All rooms have tea / coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, TV, wardrobes, drawers, dressing tables and hangers. Bathrooms have bath, shower, complimentary shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and bath foam with a generous supply of hand and bath towels. Our bedroom was spotless, brightly decorated but comfortably and homely with wood picture frames and seashells / conches' adding to the ambience of the entire hotel. The evening meal / buffet we'd booked in Caribba Creek on arrival was outstanding and nothing like we'd imagined. Staff welcomed us, explained the setup and showed us where to find everything and that was it you grab whatever you want and however much you want. The food was gorgeous and unbelievably varied, from salads, jacket potatoes, full roast dinners and good old chips n gravy, pasta, burgers, Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Thai, vegetarian dishes and desserts to die for. Belgian chocolate fountain, fresh fruit, marshmallows, ice cream, gateaux, trifles etc and then there are unlimited refills of whatever drinks you want. Breakfast is served in the same restaurant (included in package price) and again, we woke up to everything from croissants, toast, fresh fruit, cereals, bacon, egg, sausage, black pudding, beans, hash browns etc and of course, tea / coffee and fresh fruit juices were also freely available. Last but not least staff are Alton Towers are fab. They are all very friendly, helpful and don't appear cheesed off in their jobs, even when rushed off their feet. It makes a huge difference when staff genuinely don't seem to mind doing things for you. The pleasant experience at the hotel, along with brilliant full days on the park meant it was £400 well spent and the best three days we've had in ages.
