Shanghai Delight serves up hundreds of Chinese takeaways every day and is always mobbed yet the food is always very good. I am not saying it is sit down city centre quality, but very few takeaways are. It is though very good at what it does do. Personal favourites are salt and chilli chips, salt and chilli chicken, chopped ribs in black bean sauce, beef Kung po, beef curry and chicken satay. None of these of course are advised as part of any healthy diet plan that I can imagine and are probably far from authentic. But they do taste very good. If you are up this way and fancy a Chinese feast then you should give this place a try.

Occasionally the wife is on the desk she very friendly speaks English but only to the punters. A couple times a year they will close for a couple of weeks where there take a holiday a go back to HK to visit family. Ok so the best dishes are Salt and chili chips, Kung Po beef, salt and chili chicken. A wee beef curry never hurts anyone! To be honest of i was ordering Chinese and Shanghai was closed I'd just go without. All or nothing!

We didn't eat anything else in the order out of caution, as the risk of food poisoning was too high. I grew up in Greece and know seafood -- this was clearly off. Given that my mother was previously sick for weeks due to bad crayfish, we weren't willing to take any chances and threw out the entire meal. I contacted the restaurant immediately. The manager acknowledged the issue and initially offered a replacement meal for collection only, which felt dismissive considering the seriousness of the situation. I was told I'd be called the next day by the area manager -- that call never came. Eventually, someone called around 7pm and all they did was refund one meal and insinuate that we didn't know what we were talking about. It was condescending and disappointing. Expecting us to collect a free meal from the same kitchen that nearly served us spoiled seafood is not a solution -- it's a lack of accountability. Pointing us toward Uber Eats to resolve the issue just felt like passing the buck. Food safety should be a top priority, and the lack of proper follow-up or genuine concern from the team is alarming. Followed by the biggest strawberry tart I've had! OMG, I can safely say the food was the best Italian food I have eaten in Scotland. whatever ingredients they use are simply wow! our waiter Alex was so attentive, had fabulous "patter" and he just completed our experience. It reminded me of the University Cafe on Byres Road which I also used to frequent on a regular basis years ago; no added fanciness or pretension, a dash of surly waitress and a pinch of chippy grease to soothe the (hungover) soul. Well Coia's Cafe, my how you've grown! Upon 1st entering Coia's quite soon after it reopening I must admit I got sad and longed for the school-style tables and greasy misspelled menus but mostly for the mucho cheapness of the old Coia's. Oof. Then upon visiting Coia's again after this 1st time I grew to love Coia's for what it is now - a great Italian cafe/restaurant. I must admit I do still find the prices a tad steep for myself but having said that you do certainly get what you pay for and wow! Hello big portions! Woof-a-doodle-doo. I'm quite a big eater and I like a healthy (as in unhealthy) sized portion of foodage when I'm dining and Coia's certainly does not disappoint! Stuffed City. Whether it be a lazy weekend brunch/lunch or an evening meal Coia's caters for all. They still have their greasyspoon throwback - the chippy menu alongside quality Italian dishes, such as pizzas and pastas and gorgeous fresh fish of day (I had the sea bass once and it was beautiful) plus lighter bites such as omelette's (which are lovely), baked potatoes (again tasty), toasties and paninis/rolls/baguettes. The desserts are great too. Their own ice-cream (in many flavours) is lush, especially with some of that blood, I mean raspberry sauce on top. Yum. Coia's Cafe also do one of my favourite coffees ever: The Caffe Royale. This is their gorgeous coffee with whipped cream on top. It is better than I just made it sound, honest guv. They also have a tasty wine list and they serve draft Birra Moretti which is equally lovely. If you've never ventured into the dark and mysterious East End/Duke Street then please do not let this put you off coming here to try out one of Glasgow's finest Italian cafe/restaurants, you're missing out if you don't. Only minus point I have is getting a table on a weekend is sometimes a bugger but you're more than welcome to book a table so don't let this put you off as we all know that the best things come to those that wait (hopefully not for too long though...).

Then one day we were passing and starving so decided to give Coia's a whirl. Coia's is traditional Italian, it has an air of authenticity, like a proper family run Italian should. Don't expect modern, fancy schmancy decor, that isn't what they're about, expect to be greeted by 3rd/maybe even 4th generation family members who want to serve you the food they grew up with. Open from breakfast through lunch and dinner the menu has something for everyone. I, a creature of habit, opt for the calzone on every occasion (each time stating I will have something different but never do!) and once you try it you'll understand why! It must be at least 12" in diameter, has the best dough and can be filled with your choice of up to 3 fillings (meatballs, spicy chicken and mozzarella are my fav's). It's amazing and at £10.25 is a fraction of what Papa Johns or Dominos will sting you! Freshly grated Parmesan is always offered for anyone having pasta, rightly so. They also stock my favourite lemon San pellegrino soft drink, this makes me uber happy. Should you have space for pudding there's always a great selection to choose from but I would instead recommend checking out the revolving ice cream wheel...oh my is it awesome! It's part of the deli where you can buy produce to takeaway, always worth a browse. A word of warning though, you can very rarely just turn up and get seated straight away, they are constantly mobbed! Ugh. I just don't the fuss over Papa John's. It is NOT better than Dominos for takeaway chain pizza…read moredespite what I keep hearing. It's different is all. That base is so thick, dense and dough-y I barely managed 3 slices and I pride myself on my pizza eating skills. That garlic dip they send you to try and disguise the stodge is practically inedible. It is way too garlicky - if you're trying to keep some vampires away or even a questionable suitor have a swig of this and you'll be safe for days! The toppings were alright I suppose, but after failing to find their customise section I ended up going with a standard spicy pizza. We had jalapeño poppers on the side so I was hoping they would salvage things. There was NO heat in them. How can you possibly have jalapeños without heat? There was a nice amount of cream cheese and a good crispy breadcrumb coating but the lack of heat was a let down. The website is really annoying to use and not that simple to customise. Their deals compared to other options aren't great either. Overall it's not made me change my regular takeaway pizza chain for those days when we can't be bothered to go out.
