Staff was friendly, place was very clean, but... I ordered the Worlds Famous Chili Fries. What I was served was Cheese Soup with French fries and Green Chilies floating inside. It was like eating spicy Kraft Mac and cheese. I normally order chili cheese fries and get some sort of protein (ground beef and beans) Nope, if you want protein you gotta order the carne asada chili cheese fries. I hate to waste even bad food so I ate as much as I could but the cheese soup saturated the fries to a point that they were breaking apart on my fork. This restaurant says Colorado's famous green chili well I'm from Colorado so I thought I have to stop in while I go in there and it's not the green chili I know from Colorado. It's more like New Mexican green chili where it's just the chili and nothing else in Denver were used to a more of a ranchero green chili where it's got tomato onion pork and it's blended up except for the pork so it's real smooth. I'm not used to just straight up green chili so unfortunately I tried it and I didn't order anything because it wasn't what I expected now I'm sure many people think it's delicious. However it just wasn't what I was excited for unfortunately I'll have to take a trip back to Denver. Oh The Guy was super nice. Super cute kid. The gentlemen was very through with my order checking to see everything was correct. The service was quick and I ordered the specials. Birria tacos with all the veggies went well together. The burger is really good. The patty has really food flavor and has onions, diced tomatoes, lettuce, mayo and cheese. The bread was toasted as well. The green chili was tasty and spicy. Came to Chili Shack I can definitely say I was impressed. The flavor of the chili was chefs kiss. The meet and chicken had really good flavor. We had the tacos and enchiladas and we definitely enjoyed the food. The service was great the server was very welcoming and friendly and as first time being there she gave us some recommendations of popular foods and we were happy with it the choices. If you would like to try a different type of Mexican food that is not precisely west coast some other type of Mexican food with some spicy taste I definitely try this place. read more

Cute place to go to for lunch downtown. As soon as we walked in we were greeted nicely by the gentleman that took our order at the counter. He explained to us that their chili is made with green hatch chiles not other kinds of chili with meat and beans. We ordered the enchiladas with red sauce that came with rice and beans and the Chili Shack plate which was 3 grilled tacos with your choice or protein and a side of chili cheese fries. He asked what we wanted on our tacos and we told him pick the three best proteins so he used asada, chorizo, and shredded beef for the tacos. Everything came out really flavorful and had a little bit of a kick from the chiles but not spicy, just tasty. I want to come back and order the Carne Asada Fries. We have been wanting to try this place out for a while but saw that they closed for sometime after they first opened so when we finally saw that it's open again we decided to take a 25 mins drive to see what the hype was about. We're born and raised in Colorado and know all about our green chili, from the original chubbys on 38th and of course Santiago's was our go to back home. So our excitement to try this out was up there, first the location is kinda in the sketch part of Fremont, it' is behind the container park. Upon arriving and finding a paid parking we noticed that there was no one there the restaurant was empty . Also The menu on the screen is a little bit more different and the price is different compared to the one on their website. Like my husband's smothered burrito and my carne asada Fries ended up costing us more over $30 w a small drink. My husband got the beef burrito,smothered and add chicharrones I think that ended costing $16 which was way off than the menu we saw online. We got our food about 10 mins after ordering and Honestly we both agreed the green chili was good but it's not as spicy as back home. The disappointing part was the chicharrones was really chewy it was very dry that it seems liked it's been sitting there for days, It was really hard to chew that our jaw hurts, also the ground beef in the burrito is not well seasoned. Carne asada meat was just ok it's needs more of that carne asada seasoning for sure and it's a little on the dry side. It's just ok for both of us the green chili isn't bad but was it the best coming from Colorado? Maybe we ordered the wrong things and maybe they are just barely opening back up, so who knows. Service was ok it look like the owner was the one taking orders he was friendly but Was it worth the drive for us and the hype? Probably not, we always love to support locals and specially they are from Denver so hopefully they get the kinks corrected. read more

Great place to grab a quick bite. Although it was lunch time on a weekend, the place was nearly empty. This was due to a huge event going on next door at the Container Park. I have been spoiled by the finest chile in New Mexico, and I will happily say that this place is completely legit. I visited the day after Halloween 2025; they were a little slow but I hope that changes soon because the culinary experience was well worth repeating. I had the Mexican Hamburger and my wife had the chili cheese fries, both of which were outstanding and smothered in a marvelously flavorful chile sauce. If you know that style, you know how good that is. Their reputation in Denver precedes them; I hope my hometown will give them the love they deserve. Pastor burrito was so nasty two bites of it and I couldn't eat anymore. Rice was so over cooked it didn't even look like rice. The "chilie" wasn't anything special.
