An institution in Jourdanton, great food, waitresses and owners. Best kept secret in South Texas.

We ordered the fish chicharron. Not even close to the same dish served at the other location. It made us so upset, that it's not even worth talking about anymore. My son LOVES the paella at the other location. He picked the shrimp out and refused to eat the rest. We all tried it and agreed, it lacked flavor, and it didn't even feel like it was cooked the same. I ordered the caldo 7 mares. This one is mixed. It was FULL of seafood...but ZERO of the rich seafood broth you expect. For the price, the broth should at least taste...well, no joke but it should taste like fish. Even salt didn't help. The misses ordered the fried fish and shrimp. That was the best dish, and not by much. We had a michelada, and it wasn't bad, but again didn't hold a candle to the other location. The one sauce, the chipotle mayo type, was absolutely delicious. The green one not so much. Even that sauce is completely different than the 151 location. The chips were stale... Our waitress visited us once, and we WERE the only family dining there. No refills for us I guess! We were perplexed how the same family of restaurants can be so different!!! Visit the 151 location, trust me!

I got three: the jalapeño and cheese, the spinach and cheese, and the mushroom and cheese. The pupusas -- masa flour tortillas with filling -- were so large that the three made up my lunch and dinner. The pupusas themselves came incredibly hot right out of the kitchen, and were amazingly tasty, with gooey melted cheese blending with the fillings. But then, there was also the sauce. There's both red and green, and both have a very nice burn, which is more intense than one might be used to from, say, a Tex-Mex restaurant. It likewise comes with a lovely curtido (shredded cabbage, jalapeño, and onion), and when put on the pupusa with the sauce, the effect is *sublime.* My spouse shared her fried plantains with crema, which were likewise delicious. Topped everything of with a Jarritos lime soda that was a great accompaniment to a perfect meal. This is quite good, and I'd highly recommend it if you like any sort of Latin American cuisine.

I had a tamal salvadoreña, which reminded me of a Sunday roast dinner with pork instead of beef and wrapped in steamed masa instead of rolls on the table. So tender, delectable. I ordered more but this dish alone can get you through the day, my goodness. My plantain plate was educational comfort food. The plantains were sweet, beans were salty, and the crema just the right hint of sour. Again, this plate alone would make a great meal. Mr R tried three vegetarian pupusas, all of which include cheese--spinach, mushroom, and jalapeño. There was also squash and squash blossom available (I think, menu says loroco) which I REALLY want to try. That lovely curtido/slaw on the side was much appreciated. This was one of those times where I felt I had to remind him more than once to chew, he was shoveling it down so fast in glee. In case you crave some heat, they included a few red and green salsas lovingly packaged in their own bags which I seldom see. Both the red and green were pretty warm, we agreed on that. Start cautiously and increase if needed. Also grabbed a lime jarritos (we're adjusting to Mr R's diagnosis forbidding high fructose corn syrup and fruit juice, so are extra grateful for the choice) which was the exact right flavor to have alongside this table. Definitely want to come try more of this menu.

Pure comfort food like your abuela would make and man it had been awhile, but it sure was delicious. It has that wholesome feeling that has you wanting more. Also, I had had it to-go, but this is really best experienced in person...and less messy. The juices that the torta sits in is out of this world good. Messy for the untrained hand though! I found the torta bread hefty and able to hold all those wonderful carnitas tightly together. It is all so perfect...from the crunchy torta bun, the fresh cabbage, the mouth-watering custom picked carnitas, all the way to the salted lime. I want one now and can't wait to bring friends and family early to the airport so I can make a quick stop here again!

My overall experiences with "triple D" locations is negative. They RARELY blow me away. As a matter of fact, I can probably count on one hand the times I've been impressed. Having said that: This. Place. Is. LEGIT. I'm telling you now - you will not be disappointed if you go a little bit out of your way to try it. This was soooo close to 5-stars, and those reviews don't come easy from me. We had nachos and Al pastor tacos. Everything was fantastic! Neat little joint. Neat little outdoor area. I felt the price was right. My only "negative": location. This place is right by the airport...so although my wife and I had beautiful weather and temperatures to sit outside, airliners made for seriously loud distractions. I kinda felt service was a tad "chilly", but giving the benefit of the doubt here because we walked in at 8:20p when they close at 9p. She was not rude; she was just not overly nice or chatty, which we definitely are. I'm a big fan. Will definitely go back.
