DO NOT GO HERE. We took my son in for 3 sessions of speech therapy. In the middle of his third 30 min long speech therapy session, the speech therapist told me that my son was finger splaying and probably has autism. To start with, I have a Masters in Special Education and he was not finger splaying. She then kept pushing autism regardless of me telling her that he gets evaluated every 6 months due to being a foster youth and they have never seen any signs of autism and that none of his doctors have ever seen any signs of autism. She kept pushing autism and telling me that doctors don't know because they only see children in office visits when the speech therapist had only seen him in a few office visits. She then had me wait to leave after the session to give me a print out (one which I thought was speech related since that was the only reason why we were attending) but instead it was about how she think he has autism. I emailed the owner, Tara, to tell her that we want speech therapy to be focused solely on speech and how his doctors and his development assessments never show signs of autism and that it was irresponsible for a speech therapist, who has no qualifications besides speech therapy, to state that a child has autism. After a few emails back and forth where Tara kept trying to say that they were right, we decided that they could not provide proper quality care and decided to find a new provider. I had emailed her in the afternoon and let her know that we would be going with a different provider moving forward. The next morning, Tara personally called my son's pediatrician, without our consent, and told them that he was receiving intense speech therapy but that he was no longer receiving it and that she wanted the provider to know for his well-being. The doctor called me immediately to tell me because she found it incredibly inappropriate and said that she had never received a call like that before. She also was confused because she said that Tara made it seem like we had been receiving intense speech therapy for months and just cut off contact without any warning. When I told her the story, and read her the emails between myself and Tara, she said it made more sense and seemed like CTS was just trying to get us to pay for more therapy with them.
At this point, I was infuriated as Tara made a false report to a medical provider about a foster youth, which could have severe legal ramifications. I emailed Tara just how angry and disgusted I was and to let her know that I would reporting her business and reviewing it. I made sure she understood that there are legal ramifications for making false reports on a foster youth and that I plan on taking full legal action if it happened again. Tara called me as soon as she received the email and obviously was concerned because I'm sure she understood just how much she messed up. She tried telling me that it's within her right to call a medical provider for a current patient even though he was not a current patient at the time of call, which we have in writing with confirmation acknowledgment from Tara, and was already set up to receive speech therapy elsewhere.
Children's Therapy Services does not have your children's best interest at heart. They are just a business and the owner, Tara, should not work with children or families. The fact that she thought it was appropriate to make a false report and call a pediatrician for a former patient, who was a foster youth, without any concern for him or his case, solely because she didn't like that she was told the proper way to go about a major diagnosis, is flat out disgusting. I did let Tara know that I will be both reporting her business and reviewing it, as I do not want other families to experience what we did. read more
