Our son spent a little under 3 years at CDC/FLDC & we have truly felt so much comfort & trust with all the teachers in his classes. From Toddler 1 to Toddler 5, they have been a catalyst in his motor development, his learning development, & socioemotional development. As a parent who is working in the child development field, I have a pretty high standard on what a quality-based school looks like. I can speak for both as an educator and a parent. I worked at many different types of preschools and sent my children to a few places. I have three children of my own, so I have done numerous research to send my children to a quality-based school. Out of all the schools I researched and sent my children to, Fairplex CDC has been the best of the best because of what they really strive to be--clean, safe, spacious, engaging outdoor and indoor areas, educated teachers, a high teacher-to-children ratio, communications with the parents, family-engaging events, and the love and care for the families. Hands down, the Child Development Center is one of the best preschools in Pomona and the Pomona Valley. Both of my children began in the infant care room, and I can wholeheartedly attest to the expertise, creativity, and warmth of the CDC teachers. My son started preschool in Aug. 2023 with Teacher Diana, it was great. It all went down hill when Diana left and Stephanie Nagado became the head preschool teacher. She asked for us to hang outside of work, she asked to FaceTime, she actually FaceTimed me while in class...strange! I witnessed her tickle my son while he was playing by himself...even stranger. I reported this to one of the other teachers which made me nervous. Stephanie of course found out and aggressively approached me about it. A week or so later, my son had a cut on his wrist, caused by Stephanie digging her nail. Unfortunately, the supervisor, Salina Avalos, failed to protect my son. I simply asked that Stephanie not touch my son nor that they be alone together, she stated she could not accommodate. Mind you, she had previously admitted to me that she and Stephanie had been friends outside of work for a long time. Stephanie gave different stories, changing it constantly; regardless, Salina decided to protect her rather than the children she is supposed to protect. I obviously pulled him out but he took it hard, missing his friends; but he still mentions to me, "Teacher Stephanie shouldn't have done that. She hurt me." read more

All three of my kids have attended Fairplex Child Development Center. My kids started in the infant/toddler program. Then, they moved to the preschool, and kindergarten programs. We visited numerous local preschools and Fairplex stood out among all the other schools. Their collaboration with the University of LaVerne means that the teachers stay up to date on the best teaching methods. All of my children's teachers were innovative and creative. In addition, their teachers were great about communicating with parents. They provide daily updates, which often include pictures of the kids. So I always know what my children are learning in class. Not only did my kids come out very prepared for school, they have a genuine joy of learning. The only downside of this school is that there is often a waiting list. So apply early! For example, I applied for the infant program while I was in my first trimester of pregnancy. But don't let the waitlist deter you. You can always call the school periodically, and they will give you an update regarding what number you are on the wait list. read more

When my son first went there, 18 years ago, I absolutely fell in love with the Center and its amazing program and dedicated staff . Salina has always been such a beautiful and caring staff member. She even came to my son's eighth grade promotion! I am so proud of her achievements. It's hard to leave your child just in anyone's hands and she always made me feel like my son was dearly cared for and supervised appropriately at all times. This is my rave review for the Child Development Center (CDC) at the Pomona Fairplex. My wife and I started with our son there from 6 months old to 1 1/2 years old, and then we moved him closer and had a difficult odyssey with two other daycares and having him home during parts of the pandemic. We raced back with him and his new little sister at the tail end of the pandemic 2 years later--we couldn't wait to get back to this place! We now must leave again for a closer neighborhood Kindergarten, as we have commuted to the CDC all these years from LA. Everyone in our area thought we were crazy for doing that daily commute but they didn't quite know what we had in the CDC that made it worth it. Why have we loved the CDC and were desperate to get back? 3 reasons: 1) a strong Culture of institutional excellence and professionalism, and a sense of safety 2) a great Price and 3) a sane Sick Policy (1) CULTURE The CDC has institutional excellence and professionalism. Anytime you can find a daycare/child center near a college or university with a Child Development Studies Program you're going to have better Teachers with more training, professionalism, and vision for their vocation of teaching kids, caring for them, and rearing them up. The CDC has a strong association or perhaps partnership with the University of La Verne's Child Development Program. Let me demonstrate the professionalism and excellence we saw: I remember during our first Tour we asked how they approach discipline, and the Teacher Tour Guide shared their guiding theories of discipline for that age group based on Thomas Brazelton's work, and then their actual practice in the classroom when your child or someone else's misbehaves...we were impressed with this answer, knowledge, and approach. In contrast, we toured a daycare spot in Pasadena that was twice as expensive as the CDC and when we asked them their approach to discipline the answer was: "Um, we do time outs..." Okay, I do time outs at home too, but this is your profession, and have you thought a little more about how to approach these situations and how to train up a child? Communication on scheduling, our children's classroom supplies and needs, classroom infections when they arise, and holiday events have always been on point. Communication has been excellent--they use all of the latest Apps to keep the parents updated throughout the day. The CDC is actually in a great location at the Fairplex, and so classes will take occasional tours of the nearby museums on the Fairplex campus, and go on excursions to the LA Fair every year that is held there at the Fairplex! A prime and beneficial location! As I mentioned in the beginning, we left the CDC at one point to be closer to home and ease our commute but we ended up regretting that decision, as the two other daycares we used did not have institutional excellence and professionalism, but were poor communicators, had bickering staff, an unclear and unreasonable sick policy, and even overly angry Teachers. The CDC always felt safe for my kids, with a very secure campus, securely staffed entrances and exits, walls, and fun, excellent, safe playgrounds. The next thing I'll affirm the CDC for is its (2) PRICE. The CDC was cheaper than the daycare we had our two kids at in Pasadena, and it's more economical than any equivalent spot in quality in LA because it is outside the city of LA, it's in Pomona and LA County but not LA city proper...and everything is more expensive in LA. The third and final aspect of the CDC I need to praise is its (3) sane SICK POLICY. The CDC are pro-working parents, as they have a sane sick policy. They stayed open during the COVID pandemic, they never closed, which says something and which was quite rare as many other daycares closed!! And they were following Center for Disease Control policies throughout of course, using evidence-based approaches to protecting the children but also supporting families by staying open and never closing. We had our 2nd daycare close during the pandemic and never even reopen, but the CDC never even closed! They just adapted and adjusted to the pandemic nimbly, which demonstrates institutional excellence! A clear and generous Sick Policy is crucial for working parents as kids will get sick a lot...daycares are little disease factories, there is no way around that, but the CDC will reasonably take kids back in when they're no longer infectious or contagious even if there are some lingering symptoms--we've had other daycares where all symptoms need to be entirely gone before return, and so good luck having your kids in daycare for half of the month during those flu seasons! They will call and send your kid home when needed for the rest of the class' health, but they take them back as soon as possible which isn't true for all daycares! For these 3 reasons I needed to write a glowing and truthful review to honor and affirm the Child Development Center at Fairplex. read more

I cannot express how much I hated taking my child to this school. The teachers are burnt out and treat the kids poorly. My son hated going here, it was heartbreaking to drop him off, he cried and hated me leaving him. Unfortunately, I kept him there because it was free during Covid and a little bit after. I didn't realize how bad it was till I transferred him to a new school 7 months ago. His new school treats him so well and I feel comfort in leaving him there. His overall attitude has changed about school and he absolutely loves his teachers. The only reason he cries now is because he has to leave. My son was here from the time he was 10 months old- 4 years... they don't have cameras in any of the rooms, including the baby rooms. I'm so grateful I moved and got him out when I did! I always had a really bad feeling in my stomach about this place and my son always struggled to find the words to explain how he was feeling, but now that he's 5, he clearly says "I'm not going back to my old school, right mom?" So so sad! If you care about your babies, look elsewhere there are much better places! read more

If you are looking for a preschool/daycare/TK/Kindergarten class where the staff is kind, caring, compassionate, and supportive, then this is the place for you. My grandchildren attended the CDC for a total of 5 1/2 years. I was beyond sad when my grandson's last day came. Through the years the staff showed that not only did they care about the children, but also the families. They were informative, compassionate and loving. They went out of their way to make you feel comfortable leaving your child in their care. I was in a car accident one morning after dropping my grandchildren off at the CDC, and I was alone on the side of the road. Teacher Salina Avalos passed by, and turned around to stay with me until the authorities and a family member could come and help me. I was in awe. In this day, not many people show that compassion for each other. That's just one reason why I am such a fan of Salina's. If there was ever an incident or injury that happened during the day, they always brought it to my attention. Any injury that happened was followed up with a written report informing us of what happened, and a full discussion. My grandchildren both excelled with the help of the knowledgeable teachers. When my granddaughter started first grade, most of the curriculum had already been learned in Ms. Nancy's kindergarten class. She is an amazing teacher! And her assistant teacher Ms. Josephine was outstanding too. All of the staff is truly amazing. The ladies in the front office, Rosanna, Resa, and Veronica are very personable, professional, and welcoming. I will miss them all so very much. read more

I applied and paid for tuition hold $100 back on 11/15/2021 and it's now 6/28/2023 my child was an infant and now she's 2 1/2 and I've been waiting patiently and figured we'd already have her on board there. I've never gotten any calls I've always had to call for an update which I did back in May and they said she was next.. now I call today they say she's 2nd? And they're full this upcoming and following year? How is it possible when I spoke to someone and they told me that they would be calling me to start process for august in June? And because I didn't get a call I had to call and now she's not even 1st anymore? She's 2nd like how long is it going to take? When I don't need it anymore? If your paying regular tuition not any low income I recommend somewhere else because you'll be waiting forever like me! I work full time at home now thankfully but need her in daycare.. was really hoping I'd get her in but now it's like a lost cause! I love the CDC! I have nothing but fabulous things to say about this facility. Leaving my very young son is obviously a hard decision and I want to have full faith in the facility I use. CDC has never been anything but 100% professional, always having the safety of my son as their top priority. We have parent teacher conferences on a regular basis, to ensure we are all on the same page, have the same goals, and are all working towards his overall progress. I love all his teachers and have never had an issue with the child - teacher ratio as a previous reviewer mentioned. If anything, there seems to be an abundance of help! I don't have a set schedule so I drop off and pick off at completely random times throughout the day and have always been 100% impressed by the professionalism and attentiveness of the staff. The front office staff knows everyone by name and the door requires you to be buzzed in, so unless the staff recognizes you, you must show ID to have any access to the children. A huge safety plus! All the food is provided as part of the tuition cost (including formula) which is a huge time and money saver. The classroom also worked with us, as I was exclusively breastfeeding at the time my guy started school and were 100% supportive. They are definitely not the cheapest childcare option but I'm a firm believer in getting what you pay for, and childcare is NOT where I wanted to cutback. There is definitely a crazy review on this page and I can say without question that I have NEVER had an experience like that. Will children occasionally hit each other? Yes. Has he ever come home with a scratch? Yes. He's also a KID. Kids push each other, they fight, they do overall crappy things to one another. Our child has been going to the child development center at the fair plex for the last 5 years. We absolutely love the Center! They have always treat us like we are part of their family. Our child started in Infant Room (she had a medical condition and the teachers did not shy away from her, to the contrary everyone at the center contributed to caring for her )and had stayed to kindergarten. My granddaughter has been attending CDC for pre K and now is in kindergarten with Teacher Ruby. I will say this to any perspective parent or grandparent looking for a school; You will not find a better place for your child, the entire facility is outstanding. My granddaughter transitioned from Claremont Unified's Transitional Kindergarten program to the CDC and is doing incredible. From the office staff to the exceptional teachers, this place is fantastic. I am already having separation anxiety thinking about her having to leave this place for first grade. My 2 boys went to this Center and we were a part of the community for a period of 6 years. Love love this place, the teachers always communicated and were so caring, and the front desk and directors always gave me and the boys positive attention. Once my boys entered public school I was told by there kindergarten teachers that they set a new standard of social skills and proper behavior that I must give credit to the experience they had at the Fairplex. My boys still ask to go visit the teachers there and because they had so much VIP access to the fairgrounds they still feel very much apart of it! read more

The Fairplex Child Development Center is the most amazing thing that has happened to me and my family. As a parent you want nothing but the best for your children, and here we not only receive the best of nurture and care for our little ones. We are the parents to a 9 year old and a almost 2 year old, and have been blessed and fortunate to have both our children attend the center. Our 9 year old who went through the program from 10 months to 5 years. He is now in the GATE program at his current school and continously comming home with academic acheivements and top of the class awards. As a first time parent, we were hesitant about placing our son in a school setting, but after having our classroom visits, and being reassured by our son's smile and comfort level with the program, we decided that this was the place for our son. Our 2 year old, started at the CDC at 11 months, not walking or saying many words. Now, nine months later, he is putting sentences together, starting to experiment with colors, and even begun the stages of potty training! We know that when it comes to our family values and our parenting approach, the CDC is in partner with us. It is their professional, dedicated and authentic staff, teachers and students that make everyday as I drop my son off feel like I leave with a good heart at-hand. For those of us who seek not only a great education and foundation, but also where your children are loved, and cared for, this is certainly the place to be. My toddler recently started here at the program at the beginning of the school year and we were so excited to have our child in the program because we had heard good things about it. This is our first child so we visited a few other day cares in our vicinity and took tours to make sure everything met our standards and felt comfortable of course with who would be taking care of the little one. (We aren't picky but wanted what I consider what most new parents want in terms of day care for their child). After taking several tours we narrowed it down to 3 and finally decided to go with CDC at Fairplex. They seemed professional, the building was nice and well maintained, and the staff was friendly. They are also affiliated with the University of La Verne. So what's not to like right? Well it was one of the worst decisions we have ever made and will regret. It started out rough and ended up even rougher, in fact that's putting it lightly, it was a disaster! The first week while our child was there the main teacher's assistant just quit, which did concern us, but things like this happen and chalked it up to bad timing. A little over a week or so after that I got a call from his teacher letting me know that our child had tripped and fallen while all the kids were eating and that he has a small cut under his eye from hitting a chair on the way down. They down played like it was no big deal and that icing it helped and that he wasn't crying no more, but that I might want to come down. Well of course being a new parent and getting a call like that I dropped everything and rushed down there. When I arrived one of the teacher's assistants was attending to him and the main teacher approached me explaining what had happened. It all seemed well rehearsed already. It all really irritated me very much and I was trying my best to remain calm. Supposedly the shoes were to blame along with the fact that he is just learning to walk. The teacher was acting as if it was no big deal and in fact told me and I quote "get use to it Daddy". I'm not a doctor but I knew it was more serious than they were playing it out to be. I immediately took him to the doctor and he ended up getting his wound glued shut. (This is what they use now in place of stiches for kids his age). I was very much concerned about a concussion and thank the Lord he didn't have one. After seeing the doctor I returned to the CDC to get an incident report and to speak with the director about what had happened. When returning they were ready for me, they tried to have the supervisor speak with me at first, but I went straight to the director and advised her that this was unacceptable. I vented to her that when dropping him off in the mornings I've seen the ratio which is always supposed to be no more than 4-1 toddlers to teacher's off. In fact there were times when it would be 6-1 or 8-1 in the mornings, but I figured someone was just not in the room at the time of us showing up, but it was more than one occasion of this. The director did hear me out and said she would drop in the class and see if adjustment should be made and that they would make them if necessary. I got the feeling from our conversation that although she was listening, she wasn't really hearing me. In fact I got the attitude of who are you to tell me how to run my program. I'm the professional and your just a new parent and she insisted that the ratio is never off and that I must be mistaken. Well I can count to 10 and I have good vision, so basically I'm wrong and didn't see what I saw. I wanted to pull my child out of the program right there and should've done so, but at that point were stuck with them until we could take more time off work and look again for another day care. I regret this to this and will probably for the rest of my life because within the next 3 weeks or so there was 4 more incidents, which included a bruise to side of eye from apparently a book falling on face at nap time, a black eye from tripping over a step, a scratch from another little girl, and finally a bad bruise on his chin. The last bruise on the chin was the final straw. Not only was it the same ole story but they downplayed it again like it was no biggie. Earlier that morning when dropping off I saw a toddler literally push another from behind and the one toddler pushed fell to the ground right in front of me. All the teacher there did was say "he doesn't like that, don't do that". I was thinking, I wonder if that's what's been happening with my child? Few hours later I got the call about the bruise chin. Needless to say I went straight to director again, and instead of being apologetic, she responded to me by telling me and I quote "Maybe this isn't the right place for your child". Well excuse me but your DAWM RIGHT! I have never been so disgusted by someone in your position. You should be ashamed of yourself! Save yourselves some regret and STAY AWAY from here!!! read more

Like Cheryl I've heard nothing but positive comments from anyone who is familiar with this facility. When we initially toured the center we were impressed by the classrooms, playgrounds, toys, books and other resources available to the children. Teachers make daily activities teachable moments and the results of their teaching were evident in the children there. This is my son's second year at Fairplex CDC and we couldn't be happier with our experience here. The staff here is not only knowledgeable but genuinely care about the kids here. As a first time parent the staff here have helped us with all kinds of issues. When my son was slow in learning to walk there was someone with him when the kids played outside to make sure that the other toddlers who were already walking didn't trip over him. They worked with him until he was walking on his own and now he's not only walking but you can find him routinely running down the hallways. When he had a reaction to something he ate the staff identified that is what caused it and made sure he got a substitute during meals. When he went through his biting phase they taught him how to communicate what he needed and wanted rather than act out by biting. When he acted out because I was away on business they made sure he got lots of hugs and attention. They even gave us tips on how to make business trips easier for the whole family by communicating upcoming trips and count down calendars to show when mommy or daddy is coming home. Some of the other benefits of the center are weekly parent education classes that include after hours care during the class as well as dinner for kids and parents! Topics include car seat safety, how to handle conflicts, kindergarten preparedness, nutrition, dental hygiene, baby sign language, etc. The center has a library full of books that are available for families to borrow to encourage reading at home. Since the center is on the grounds of the Fairplex during LA County Fair season the kids get to visit the educational exhibits a the Fair. The first time I went on one of these visits I was impressed by the educational activities they had. In a pretend setting the kids planted seeds, picked crops, sold crops for play money and went shopping at a grocery store complete with toddler sized shopping carts. I was amazed at how quickly my son picked up the concept and smiled when he "bought" ice cream, bananas and cereal (his favorite foods). Our son attended another nearby day care before CDC had space for him. Although his previous day care met many of our requirements it certainly did not excel in cleanliness, curriculum, activities, staff and resources the way CDC does. read more

This place is very picky as to what kind of children they want to be in their facility. They have on their webste about having an all inclusive program for children with developmental disabilities and so on but that is not so. Either that or they are not an equal opportunity preschool as they say they are. Throughout the tour the director did not interact very much with my son. It was almost as if she was avoiding him and then she made up a story about them not wanting to accept students who are already with the school district because they will not like to disrupt their services. After I told then her that he will be getting services through his insurance, she went on to say there is no availability for his age group. My son attended this school for four years. I have nothing but love and admiration for the teachers and staff members at the Fairplex CDC. My son is currently in Kindergarten and is doing AMAZING! I am nothing but grateful to everyone who was a part of his life and education during the time he was there. As a parent you want to know that your child is being well taken care of and feels safe at school, and I KNOW that my son was safe and well cared for at CDC. I am confident that he will continue to thrive in school because of the strong foundation he received as part of the CDC School Family. They truly made us feel like family!!!! read more

I became a foster mother for my (then) 3 year old grandson and had to find a decent place for him. I wanted something that would be beneficial for him and not just a daycare where he gets to play all day. After researching for close to two weeks and going on some tours, I was apprehensive about going to the next one because I was not really satisfied with most of what I saw. The next tour happened to be with the Child Development Center in Pomona. Immediately upon going through the front door, I was impressed with the security there. You cannot go near the classrooms without being buzzed in. After the impressive tour I went home and reviewed everything I've seen from all the facilities. I decided that I would take him to CDC and asked them to put me on their waiting list. A few days later after I had ALMOST signed the agreement with another facility, I received a voice mail from CDC telling me that they had an opening for 3 days a week. I jumped at the chance and decided I would alternate the days and take him from one to the other. I wasn't happy about it but what could I do at this point? However, after going in to sign the papers and talking with Margie about my experience out there and how I really liked the facility, I was hit with the best surprise ever. I watched as she was looking through her paperwork and it's almost as if an Angel came down and messed with the paperwork because she couldn't find his paperwork on the partial attendance folder, but found it in the 5-day a week folder. I just about fainted I was so happy. My next concern was dropping him off for the first time and how hard it will be every day. He held on to me like velcro the first day and cried as I left. It broke my heart. However, when I picked him up, he told me that he had a fun day and if he can go back tomorrow. The next day he seemed a little sad that I was leaving him, but he has never cried again and looks forward to going every day. My toddler has been going there for almost a year now and I am so impressed with the things he comes home and tells me. He has grown so much academically beyond my expectations. He is only 4 1/2 and he knows his ABC's, can spell 3 letter words, count to 100 and he is loving every minute of it. As for the review I read earlier about the bad experience Oscar had, I feel for him but I honestly believe that the accidents that happened were in fact just that, accidents. I think he may be a little over protective since he is a new daddy, who can blame him? He will learn that little children fall constantly, yes it does happen and there will be more to follow, this I know from experience. I've never once had a bad encounter with any of the staff there and to be honest, it seems he may need to adjust his attitude a bit because the staff there is great. I would recommend this place a million times if I had to. I was lucky to be able to find the perfect place for my toddler. read more
