Bunchberry Meadows Conservation Area - Fairly representative trail conditions

Bunchberry Meadows is a privately owned conservation area just west of Edmonton and north of Devon…read more From my home in the Windermere area, I was able to drive here in about 20-25 minutes, with easy access off the Henday. The turn in to the area from Range Road 261 is easy to miss, but once you make the turn, large signs tell you that you're in the right spot. The entire area is really well maintained, with a gravel parking lot, maps and concrete outhouses (which were very clean!). There are a number of trail loops, and if you do all of them, expect to walk about 9 km, or two hours. Depending on the trail route you select, you could walk much less than this. The trails are stamped down grassland or peat, and were easy walking, but I wouldn't recommend a stroller due to uneven ground. I was also more comfortable in hiking shoes than I would have been in sneakers or sandals. The whole trail system is very well marked throughout, with maps and pointers giving walking distances and times back to the parking lot at every trail fork. Along the trails there are placards with information about trees and wildlife in the conservation area, and I especially loved the birch forest - rare and beautiful. I visited in early September, and mosquitoes weren't an issue with some bug spray, but with marshy areas I would expect them to be out in full force during warmer months. I enjoyed my visit, and would definitely return, especially once the leaves start to turn in the fall. Note: dogs and bicycles are not permitted due to some of the sensitive habitats in the area.

What's most upsetting is that I chose this place again based on a fantastic stay I had back in 2021. I never expected things to take such a frustrating turn. It's incredibly disheartening to see what once felt like a trustworthy and enjoyable experience devolve into what now feels like a scam. I've tried reaching out multiple times, but the lack of response and accountability has been deeply disappointing. I sincerely hope they make this right, but until then, I can't recommend this resort to others. Beware: It seems like the resort has been rebranded with a new name. Not sure but could be another scam. https://www.wildernessriverresort.com/

Here we are 3 years later still waiting for a refund after they shut down for renovations and the promise to be back with bigger and better. There has to be something we, who were robbed of our money, can do about this. PERHAPS WE CANT GET OUR MONEY BACK BUT WE COULD CAUSE THEM GRIEF, PAIN OR PERHAPS SMALL CLAIMS COURT. Is there a way for us to get together as a group and go to their property with news media and perhaps find a pro bono lawyer to give us direction. We should not let them off of the hook because they say they dont have the money to repay. This is fraudulent in my opinion and needs to be addressed!! I cant believe this has not been resolved. Its like it was just fine for this company to do what they did and then just walk away without resolve.

I've been exploring a few different trails in Edmonton and this one is the closest to my house, so it's super convenient to walk at any time of the day. The trail goes along the top of the hill at Forest Heights and gives a great view of the city skyline, we actually watched the Canada Day fireworks from here and it was the perfect spot if you don't want to go all the way downtown. The path then takes a dip and you follow the road down to 98 Avenue and the Cloverdale area. Along the way, there are paths off to the side to take you down to the water or up to the main road. It looks like lots of keen cyclists use this path as they have created some cool additional trails with their tracks. You are quite secluded as the trees on either side completely hide the walkway from the main road. There are picnic tables and benches to stop and rest along the way too. Once at the bottom you are in Cloverdale and come to Central River Valley Park which appears well maintained and has a statue of George Francis Hustler. Nice spot for a rest, or continue on to Henrietta Muir Edwards Park. Or like me, turn back and tackle the hill back up! This walk has a mixture of couples out a stroll, keen runners, cyclists and even older ladies out to keep fit. I wouldn't take a little kid on this trail as it is very steep in parts.
