Staff was extremely unhelpful. I went over there to swim, and I was told that because the class was scheduled even though there was two people in the pool I was unable to use a lap plane. No one would even attempt to make an exception. The place is nasty, dirty anyway. read more

I have a membership based out of the Chesapeake peninsula, but when I came here to use my membership Miss Sandra told me that she couldn't find it in the system. She said that the system was out of date and doesn't always work. She then asked me for the phone number to the YMCA where my account came from so that she could call them, but obviously I don't know what it is. How often does someone call a YMCA and I'm pretty sure it is her job to have those phone numbers herself? Miss Sandra then looked at me as if I was a liar who was just trying to sneak into her facility and didn't want to call for herself. I know for a fact that my membership is valid, because I just got a new tag from a different branch three days prior. Since this incident, I have been to three different YMCAs and my membership has worked at all three with no problems. In fact, I went to a branch in downtown Richmond after I was denied from this location, and the wonderful woman working the front desk helped make sure that my membership would work at all locations within 5 minutes. Not only did this kind woman help me, she did it with a smile on her face. She was happy to help. On the other hand, Miss Sandra was the opposite. She wasn't willing to help or do her job to ensure that I could use the facility, but instead looked at me as if I was lying straight to her face. I really didn't appreciate that as I am sure that nobody does. I didn't bother to argue with her, because frankly I do not care. I am more than happy to visit any other location where the management has an ounce of respect for the people that pay to use these facilities and are happy to do their job. Needless to say, I will not be going back there because of Miss Sandra and simply the fact that there are better YMCAs within a 15 minute drive. read more

I have been to a lot of YMCA , near and far , this YMCA is special...like all YMCA it has child care , pool , weights, cardio , basketball etc .. it's all there. What makes me this YMCA special is the people that work there. They are the super nicest people I have meet. They will help and explain not teach and lecture. I had the privilege of a day pass at this local YMCA. I was here because my husband was taking a class and needed to get a workout in on a Sunday. Let me tell you something about this location, they are on point! From the minute you for in the door you smell fresh coffee brewing and the building is immaculate. From the vending machines to the windows to the front desk, the managers and wellness coordinators miss nothing. The workout theatre is very well laid out and equipment is easily accessed. They have great cable equipment as well as a super dumbbell rack and benches. Medicine balls, padded plyo boxes, sand bags, weighted bars, exercise balls....they have an incredible selection. There are very few exercises that cannot be performed in this gym. I had to do banded lateral lunges in my workout today. So, I just went out into the hall and had plenty of room. The bathrooms are spotless and they supply lotions and spray and other toiletries in the ladies room. As well as offering classes, they also offer personal training. Zack is the wellness coordinator and I watched him train a client and it was impressive. You can feel confident in the professionalism of all of the employees at this Y. There is a beautiful indoor pool at this location. It is beautiful and more than well equipped with a lifeguard and equipment adaptations for disabilities. It's been a great Sunday. This is a GREAT place! I've been to several gyms in different states, this is my favorite, and it's not just a gym! The people are amazing. I've seen members in bad moods take it out on the staff, and it is handled well. There is a good variety of nice equipment, and great group classes. My favorite is the pool. Although an acquaintance who takes her kids to after school care and summer camp, likes that best. She went there as a child! She appreciates knowing her kids are safe and well cared for. The only thing that would make it better for me, is for the water aerobics classes to be easier to find online. Although I could just download the app... read more

I absolutely love this location. I have been to about 3 in the Richmond area and this is my favorite. It is in a small community right off of 295. It is a small gym, but the staff is amazing. The gym is always clean and there are enough machines for the amount of people who go to the gym. I liked how I got a personal tour of the gym and a trainer showed me how to use all of the machines. When my personal trainer is not available I come to this location and they treat me like family. read more
