Last week it was a French dip, that tasted like it was bathed in jalapeño. I couldn't even finish half of it, and paid for the I'll effects I did eat for several hours. The next night, I heated up the other half, and couldn't eat it. And that's one of my favorite, frequent flyer meals from them. Last night, the split pea soup was so peppery, I couldn't even taste the peas! (The croutons were also overly peppered). Again, i order that frequently. Seems someone up there has a really heavy hand with the hot stuff. Unfortunately, looks like we're going to have to find a different 'go to' local place. A shame, we really (used to) like their food, the people, and usually ordered or visited at least once a week, but I'm done buying food just to throw it out.

Absolutely the best decision we could make. Angela is a motivated, inspired, and a very creative chef. Her menu is vast and ever changing. She caters to all types of diets and is very flexible with scheduling when it's time for a cook date. Angela handles all of the grocery purchases, brings her own pots, pans, and utensils and cleans up everything when she's completed or, if needed, will cook off-site and deliver...very accommodating! The owner Stanley Ojeda was always a sweetheart and took care of us. Now he's a successful businessman and I don't think he runs the counter like he did in the old days. Every time I've gone in there recently the clerks have been Spanish speaking only and surprised to see a gringa in the store. I just laugh to myself since I've been around longer than they have. La Unica has the usual selections of a small neighborhood grocery store, in addition to having Puerto Rican and Central American grocery and produce items. I always loved the small hispanic candies and baked goods they sold. I never knew what they were called, but they were tasty.
