We stopped at Albanese Candy to get our grandchildren their Easter candy and spotted Chicagoland Popcorn across the street so we had to stop! So glad we did! The owner Dwayne was so nice he invited us to sample whatever flavor we wanted. We tried several! We ended up with Cheese Covered Carmel, Carmel Pecan, and believe it or not, Garlic Bread. My random decision to visit Chicagoland Popcorn was such a wonderful surprise. They had dozens of flavors to choose from that were sweet and savory as well as a little quirky. Crab legs and hot wings with ranch were some that stuck out to me. They offer you a samples before purchasing. I only sampled cheddar jalapeño. I wanted to try a little bit of everything but settled with three flavors which were Cheddar Jalapeño, the Chicagoland Mix, and Froot Loops. All three flavors were amazing. I can't wait to go back to the store to get another bag of Froot Loops and try some other flavors. read more

She let me know that I could try any flavor. I tried a few of the savory flavors. I settled on chili lime and garlic parmesan and let me just say I ate both bags before I got back to Indianapolis. There is ample parking. They have a loyalty program and if you are a frequent visitor it worth getting. The only bad thing I have to say about this place is it's 2 hours from me. I've never been a huge popcorn fan. It's usually under salted/buttered, full of kernels, stale, and gets stuck in your teeth. Chicagoland Popcorn has changed my perspective, though. My wife and I used to go every month or so when we first started dating, and it was the highlight of our month. We've met both of the owners, who are sweet people, and their employees are all really nice too. John was the first one to help us, and he really cared to learn about us, to the point where he remembered where we attended school and other things from visit to visit. As for their selection, it's unrivaled. They have a wall of probably a hundred flavors which are constantly changing (over 250 in total, of course). You can try as many samples as you like, so you'll be able to find a flavor you enjoy before purchasing. I don't generally like sweet foods, I much prefer savory, but they have some delicious flavors of both. My favorite savory/salty flavor is the creamy cucumber and dill, and my favorite sweet flavor is the Purdue Crunch (sorry IU!) My wife's favorite is the chili lime, and when we first discovered the jerk chicken, it quickly became one of our favorites too. As for the price, it's of course more than you'd usually spend on popcorn (although cheaper than what you'd pay at a movie theater) but you're paying for the selection, the samples, the flavor, and the quality of the popcorn and service. I'm a very frugal person, and I think the price is well worth the experience. read more

The walls when you walk in are lined with so many different kinds from sweet popcorn like Oreo or red velvet. To savory like flaming hot and movie popcorn. This is a fairly new establishment that opened Late Summer/Early Fall 2014. They are almost directly across the street from Albanese Candy Factory in Hobart/Merrillville, which is how I saw them and decided to check them out. From the outside, the place looks small. But boy, don't let that fool you! They have an enormous popcorn selection! It was so big, I was pretty overwhelmed and had trouble making a choice on what I wanted. Luckily, they let you sample any kinds of popcorn that you want to try before you buy it. They have different sized bags that you can purchase. I was torn between two flavors, and they let me mix both of those flavors for my own bag! I got exactly what I wanted! Their system is pretty organized, in order to ensure that people get served according to who arrived first. They have you take a number upon walking in, and they will call your number when they're ready to serve you (which is nice, because it gives you time to check out all the flavors and make a decision first). It was quite crowded when I went in. The staff was personable and professional, and I didn't feel like I waited horribly long. They also offer a discount on your receipt if you return to buy more popcorn within 5 days. However, I still felt that they were a bit pricey. This could be due to the fact that they have to make all of their own flavors and products in-house, or just simply the fact that they are the only major popcorn shop in NWI so they feel they CAN charge a lot for their product. Nevertheless, I will probably go here again, albeit for a small bag of popcorn. read more

What a fun place to visit! The storefront is currently small (they just opened in September 2014), but if you love popcorn, this place is the equivalent of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Since they do allow you to try literally every flavor they have in the store, you can skip lunch and get full at Chicagoland if you really want to. The variety of flavors is amazing. They have flavors ranging from Rice Krispie Treats to Hot Wings with Ranch to Banana Pudding to Jalapeno Cheddar. The flavors aren't just food coloring. The Rice Krispie Treats popcorn is literally popcorn mixed into ground up rice krispie treats with the marshmallow flavor and the consistency of Rice Krispie Treats. The owner is an absolute delight and you can tell he's truly happy to be there and is proud of his work. His staff is very helpful and very happy to give you the samples. The store isn't the most posh looking store in town, but the quality of the popcorn speaks for itself. The only mentioned possibly opening a location in SE Michigan because he's from the area. A fun place to visit because they have all of the, I'd guess, hundreds of popcorn flavors out on display. The staff is very friendly. Be prepared to wait a long time if there is anyone ahead of you. It takes a long time for people to sample all the flavors that they want to sample and then decide on which ones to order. One time we got there right before a bus unloaded. Phew! I imagine we would have been there all afternoon if we had to wait for everyone in the bus to purchase their popcorn. The Cheddar popcorn is my favorite. It has the right amount of cheddar topping to make sure that your fingers get all orange. The staff are very friendly. Be sure to get a frequent buyer card. We had an absolutely delightful experience visiting with our four sons. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and asked if we'd been there before. When we said it was our first time, we were invited to taste test anything we wanted, the pricing and sizes were explained to us, and we were given a spot at the counter to ask questions, socially distanced from other patrons, The owner was there prepping for a wedding and took time to answer our sons' questions about how many flavors they had, where the popcorn was made, and how they invented new recipes.
