The few times I rode the red line over the last few years I haven't had any major problems. The people do get rowdy & sometimes the station/train is dirty. It's also weird how they at times have a lot of TSA level fake security while a drug dealer is literally cattle calling that he is selling weed 20 feet away from them. Like why not just call the police & have them escorted off the premises? At times I've seen security act just as wild as the passengers. The station itself is nice. It looks like it was recently renovated. It's pretty much a bus depot with buses that go all over the southside coming here. As always KEEP YOUR HEAD ON A SWIVEL & CALL THE POLICE if you need help. There are a ton of shady characters. I've seen people before try to get a CTA employee to help them out with an issue & act surprised when the employee doesn't help them. Just like the "security theatre" that is TSA, CTA isn't law enforcement... they CAN'T enforce laws. They will only assist you by making a report & contacting the actual police. read more

Not in a very nice neighborhood. Fights happens all the time unexpectedly. Few robberies, phone theft happens alot, that includes gang shootings. Watch your back too especially getting on the Red Line or waiting for Pace Suburban Bus or CTA buses. This station smells like smoke, cheap beer. Don't risk on taking the elevator unless if you ever smelled a crackhead urine. I only go there if I gotta transfer different buses or going straight to Downtown Chicago on CTA Red Line. Don't trust anyone. Do not take the taxi. I had seen few fights there. I had gotten few starred. I had beggars asking me for money too. Just say no if any people asked you anything. read more

I remember my sole visit to this station very fondly. Pulling into the station, I got hit up for a donation by a "deaf" guy, had Mormons try to save me (against the odds, there were people even whiter than me here) in the concourse, and then a car flying by gave me a free giant puddle shower. This station was practically built to be a failure, dropping its users in the middle of a massive, divisive highway. A great failure of urban planning, in the midst of an even greater one. read more

Escalators don't always work, but it is what it is. I hope that the new station is more efficient and keeps up with the neighborhood better. The ETA signage isn't always accurate or sometimes doesn't show anything at all, but it's always well-lit and adequately staffed. read more

What can you say its CTA it a lot of people trying to commute from the train to the busses or the busses to the train. It's cleaner to me than it use to be although I was surprised and very late that they changed some of the spots where the buses pick up and drop off passengers. Very convenient. But CTA is not safe at all. People will follow you, harass you, etc. CTA workers also don't care about it. I once told a CTA employee that a group of boys (who ran out of the train station) were following me at night and stealing from others, she replied "What do you want me to do". Gave me an attitude and said "you can call the police". Very aggravating, especially hearing this coming from another woman. read more

It was a Tuesday night; I had had a long day at work redoing reports and decided to hit the gym. After my strenuous work out I was exiting the Addison red line station and the doors of the train had just closed, and train pulled away when I realized with paralyzing fear I had left my purse on the train. Panic stricken I run down to the attendant and tell him through near tears my plight. Crack employee he is, he gets on the phone to dispatch and relays MaryAnne's current tragedy. While I could not hear the other end of the conversation, I can only imagine how it went: Other end of the phone: "Got her purse stolen?" Addison attendant: "No, left her purse on the train." Other end of the phone: "Stupid girl" Yes, I could hear the empathy through the phone and security glass. Fast forward to the following morning, I am traumatized due to the loss of my favorite purse. I normally don't play favorites with my accessories, but this is a Banana Republic brown suede bucket bag. From nearly 10 years ago. I couldn't replace it if I tried. Never mind the possessions in the bag: Library book Hello Kitty date book Ipod (with 1,000,000,000 songs, yes, 1,000,000,000.) Makeup bag None of which could be replaced. I don't want to think about the groveling involved in a missing F Scott Fitzgerald book from our fine library system. Wednesday morning 10am I get the call at my desk. It's Mari from the 95th Red line station. They have indeed found a bag. She asks me to describe it. Me: "it's gorgeous, brown, suede" Laughing. Mari: "You can pick up the purse anytime today at the 95th station." Me, thinking: 95th? Wow, that's far. Me, out loud: "Can you put it on the train and send it to Howard station?" Mari: "No." Me: "Alright, 95th it is." Now the real adventure begins; my trip to the 95th station. Now, prior to this I have never been south of Comisky on the red line, so I'm super excited. The trip itself is lackluster. The station however is like a mecca. One of the attendants walks me back to this area off the platform area for employees only. It's like an office; except they're watching LOST in the breakroom. Then I see it, my purse. Behind security glass. My beloved missing purse. All contents intact. The hero of the story, in case you're wondering is Richard Anderson. CTA employee who found it and turned it in. Moral, always keep a plethora of your business cards in your purse or wallet so the CTA can phone you. read more

Has to be the worst train stop in all of CTA stops. If you don't hate taking public transportation this place will certainly do the job. I recommend avoiding it if possible. read more

This is one of the busiest and colorful transit stops in Chicago. Everybody passes through and there are a lot of talented youngsters in school etc. coming and going. It needs a revamp sure but its hardly a rush for its own urbane, rather stirring environment. read more

When you hear the announcement "95th is next", you just think "uh-oh". I took the Pace bus here once and boy it sucked. You can't take a turn without seeing a crazy person or whatever. read more

I gave this station one star and would have given it no stars had there been an option for that. This CTA station truly sucks the big one. I do everything in my power to avoid using it. Even if that means going completely out of my way and taking more time to get to my destination. The entire Red Line is horrible at best and the 95th St. station is a reflection of all that is F'd up about it. As others have mentioned there are way too many unsavory characters that just hang around this station. They aren't going anywhere in life nor are they going anywhere on the train or buses that stop there. I am sooo FN sick of these dredges selling "loose squares", "good bud" and the such. For all you people that create a market for this you should know that if the money you spend on one or two cigarettes here and there every day you could have bought a pack and it would have been cheaper. For you dope heads take your lips off that blunt and clear your mind so you can realize buying bud from a stranger at a train station is stupid beyond reason. First, how the hell are you supposed to know what you're getting from this person? Ain't it a shame that when you smoke it you find out it's garbage? Second, you're out in the open. You are an arrest waiting to happen. Maybe that's a good thing. Either way I can do without the experience. This station did do one good thing for me though. It provided me with a stronger motivation to save my money to get a car so I can further avoid using the Red Line. Supposedly there is going to be a renovation of the Red Line and it will be closed. I feel bad for the few decent people that use it that will have to find alternate routes with limited means, but at least the dumb assess that just hang around doing nothing but getting into or causing trouble will have to find somewhere else to "hang". Hopefully, when the renovation is done, they don't come back. I know, I know, that wishful thinking. No matter what level of renovation they do, if they don't do something about what really makes this a bad line to ride then their renovation will be in vain. I don't care what they do to this line, only the most extreme emergency will make me ever use it again. read more

It's a good thing this station (one of the busiest in the city) will be renovated. The station is really big, so make sure you know where your bus stop is if you're transferring from the train. It's also kind of scary, as big buses, cars, and large groups of people are moving quickly in what appears to be randomness. It has a Dunkin' Donuts and a small store inside, which is nice in the mornings. It's one of the busiest stations I remember hearing with thousands of users daily who get off here to access the "East Side" and "South Chicago" neighborhoods. I have gotten to this stop about a dozen times in the past few years (during the day), and have not had any problems. I have, however, received well over a dozen notices of theft, assault, and threats with guns to people either going to the train stop or from the train stop to CSU. If you're here, just be careful and aware of your surroundings...like you should at all train stops. read more
