The meat was so tender, the bread was toasted perfectly with a crunch and a softness and a bit of garlic butter. The caramelized onions were just the perfect amount. The fries were absolutely fantastic with such a tasty flavor and thickness. For traveling I was expecting something much less and I was so happy to get a good meal that was so delicious. And they are open 24 hours so this is a bonus for those late-night munchies!

What I found interesting is that the location of the produce was literally right at the front door. Not sure who thought that was a good idea as people tend to linger over their produce selections, so I can only imagine what the entrance must look like on a busy day. Got to give them props for beer selection on the day I was there. There was Two Brothers, Revolution Anti Hero, Goose Island 312 and Lagunitas Little Sumpin' (favorites of The Queen and The Doctor). There were some items they did not have that I see at other stores I go to (the package smoke salmon), but that is not a deal breaker as I know different stores have different items they carry. Turns out, Short Fuse was right up the road and a 5 minute walk got us there. For a Sunday, it wasn't too busy but not dead, so we got seated right away. While nothing really struck our fancy, our waitress made a comment that if we did want any food, it might be slim pickings as they were running out of stuff. Turns out, this day was the last day they were open. Talk about timing! After she mentioned that, I started to notice that people were buying bar signs and various other things. Emily started off with a Guava Gose and I grabbed a Krankshaft kolsch. We sampled each other beers and we both really liked what the other ordered. I don't really know what a gose is but, damn, was that good! I've had Krankshaft before so I knew what I was getting myself in to. We ended up ordering a second round of the same beers and let each other sample the other's beer a little more liberally this time. While we were kind of hungry, nothing on the menu really struck our fancy, especially considering they might've been out of it. Room service took care of those hunger pangs later after a few more beers in the hotel bar. Online reviews for this place seemed hit and miss but I really enjoyed my time there and really enjoyed the artwork on the walls and the vibe of the place. We did contemplate buying some bar signs on our way out but declined as we don't know what we would exactly do with them. This is an old-fashioned mom-and-pop diner serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food was simple, homemade-style comfort food, and everything we had was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. I almost passed on trying this place because I saw a review mentioning rude staff and racist comments, but I'm really glad I gave them a chance. The majority of the kitchen staff was Hispanic, and one of the servers was as well, so I highly doubt those comments are accurate. The staff may be a little more mature/old-school, but they were absolutely not rude. BTW, my husband is Mexican, and everyone was very kind and polite to us. Seldom do I get a plate where everything was prepared perfectly - the eggs were not overdone nor the whites runny, the toast was just right, the hash browns were nicely toasted, and the avocado did not have 1 blemish. Throughout my meal, my cup stayed full and the gentlemen waking around was super friendly without being overbearing. I sat for quite a while until the rain stopped. I never felt rushed. For a spur of the moment stop, I was impressed with this place. Thank you for feeding me and keeping me dry!
