I've been a client for many years now and not much has changed besides the official addition of Kailyn, Carlina's (the owner) daughter. The level of service, integrity and comfort during my visit is always top notch. I appreciate that Carlina truly cares about the quality of her service and will not cut corners just to make a quick buck. She is patient and thorough, taking her time to explain the process if I am requesting services that are more involved. I once arrived with my hair in such bad shape she had to postpone the bleaching since my hair was too dry. Instead, she did a hot oil treatment on my hair first to prep it before the bleach & color we originally had planned for. It was disappointing I didn't get what I thought I was getting done at the time of the appointment, but this was necessary. She didn't want to further damage my hair if that could be prevented. Visits to Chic Styling is always a good time. I've said this before and I'll say it again, it's really like visiting an old friend. Carlina and Kailyn are kind, friendly and a pleasure to work with. The vibe here is always inviting a wonderful. For today's service, I was a bit undecided on colors and also a bit premature with my appointment as I still had plenty of color left. Carlina knew just what to do, and how to apply the new color to achieve a really unique look with lots of pop. I recently came in for a haircut with Carlina, and they mentioned a new service they are offering to their clients -- CLASSIC EYELASH EXTENSIONS! Quite frankly, this has been a GAME CHANGER in my daily routine! I am really lazy to put on make up everyday so the eyelash extensions allow me to look put together with very minimal effort. Kailyn does an amazing job at placing the lash extensions! She is very detail-oriented and puts a lot of effort to make sure you are comfortable and looking naturally beautiful by the time you leave! This is actually a 10 star review. 5 for 2 different services. 1) Coloring/Cut My daughter asked for an anime type of hair coloring, i.e. part blonde and part blue. With her Asian hair, I was skeptical that the coloring would come out well. How wrong I was. Carlina took a look at my daughter's hair and explained how the coloring process would go, how to properly prepare her hair before treatment, and realistically how it would look. Carlina did an amazing job and my daughter and I are very happy. 2)Brazilian blowout/cut Since Carlina did such a good job on my daughter's hair, I opted for a Brazillian blow out and cut for my own hair. Carlina gave me four wonderful mullet haircuts at Chic between 2019-2023, at a total, very reasonable cost of $180. In June 2024 I left the salon a message saying I needed another haircut. But this time I never got a call back. As time wore on, I thought maybe my message had gotten lost. By nine months later, on April 17, 2025 my hair was really unruly and I needed a haircut badly. I phoned Chic because she's the only hair cutter I have had in the last six years. A woman answered, saying, "Chic Salon, this is Carlina. How may I help you?" I said, "Hi, this is Bev. I need a haircut." There was dead silence. I said "Hello...hello?" and then she hung up. I called back right away and got a recording, saying she was "with a client" and to leave a message. I did not leave one--feeling certain then that Carlina did not want my business anymore. I can't think of a reason and just wish I knew why. read more

I booked an eyelash extension appointment with Kailyn and my lashes look amazing! I never had eyelash extensions before and I'm so glad I booked with Kailyn. She explained what she was doing throughout the process and gave me a customized kit to help remind me how to maintain my lashes. A couple of weeks later, I made an appointment to refill my lashes and we tried something different. Kailyn did her magic and I am in love with how they look! I got my eyelashes done by Kailyn honestly probably the best eyelashes I've ever had. I've gotten eyelashes done probably 5 other times and I have never received as many compliments as I have since getting them done with kailyn at chic salon. 100 percent recommend booking an appointment. Carlina is the best! I stumbled upon this salon a year ago looking to get soft layers for long black hair. Carlina did an awesome job and was very knowledgeable at bringing my dull hair back to life. Not only did she do a great job at my hair cut, but her family made me feel at home. I came back again this year looking to cut my long black hair again and possibly get a color. Hair washes feel so amazing because they massage my head while doing so and I just feel like sleeping right then and there. Hair color jobs are amazing time and time again! I understand it's difficult to color hair because everyones hair type is different so they do take a few sessions BUT it's because they care so much about the feel and health of the hair! First time coming here, I must say it's the best salon I've ever been to. Heard about this place through Yelp. Called and spoke with Carlina and she recommended getting a consultation first. Went in the next day, supposedly just for my daughter but ended up getting my hair done as well. My daughter's hair color took about three sessions and mine took two sessions. The result was just amazing. My daughter really loved her new hair color and of course I'm in love with mine too. Five stars all the way. The service was just awesome. I found Chic when I was looking for a new place since my stylist relocated. I loved my experience there. The salon is really nice! Carlina greeted me warmly when I arrived and immediately made me feel welcome and right at home. She gave me a wonderful shampoo, complete with a very relaxing scalp massage (bonus!) The best part was that she didn't talk during the shampoo - she just allowed me to relax and let the tension melt away (it was so wonderful - I feel like bribing her for an even longer one next time - LOL!!). It's not that I don't like talking - it's just that talking while getting your hair washed is often awkward - especially in the midst of a soothing scalp massage. I should also note that they have the kind of washing stations that have the neck support - so you aren't awkwardly getting your neck cranked by the hard rim of the washing sink which is a definite plus. After the shampoo, we moved over to the chair where Carlina proceeded to give me a great haircut and blow out. It was then that we had a lovely chat - she really is a sweet lady! She took her time and asked questions, making sure that I got exactly what I asked for instead of just diving in and chopping away. I really appreciated that she didn't try to upsell a lot of product (I hate when salons do that) or try to talk me into additional services. When I booked the appointment, since I was a first time customer, she did briefly let me know about their first time customer specials, but it wasn't pushy at all and when I stated that I already had providers for those services that I was happy with, she didn't push back at all which was much appreciated. I always feel awkward saying "no" and I'm so thankful that Carlina didn't put me on the spot. It's not that I'm not open to a suggestion here and there. I came to Chic Styling Salon for a Very last minute blow out and they were able to fit me in! Since it was my first time there they gave me 10% off yay! I believe Carlina was my stylist. Her personality was warm and welcoming. She made me feel so comfortable while being with her the entire time. She was super soft handed and gentle with my scalp. My usually stylist is literally banging my head around lol The only con was, my hair was not fully dried at the roots... it was still pretty wet. My hair is thick and curly so my curly hair girls know the deal... I was in a rush and told her that it was okay. It wasn't that big of deal but to some people it might be. I did book last minute and I know my hair is a struggle to work with. I went home and fixed it. All and all, the blow out did last me 3 days!! Was just passing through on my way up to Oakland for a Bachelorette party and wanted to get a blowout before so I messaged Caralina that morning and she was able to squeeze me in. I came across Chic Styling Salon through yelp. While it didn't have many reviews the photos were amazing and the reviews seemed to glow from genuine satisfaction. That was enough for me to bite the bullet and schedule an appointment. I hadn't gotten my haircut in 3 years and was looking for a cut & highlight. After speaking with Carlina about what I wanted over the phone she recommended I come in for a consultation. I have never had anyone do a pre-consultation for a highlight/cut before so I was a little caught off guard but definitely appreciated her thoroughness. She explained that since I had virgin hair I wouldn't get the color I wanted in one shot. She told me what to expect in the process and we even went back and forth over the week sending each other pictures to finally nail down a style that would work for me. My hair took about 4 sessions (maybe 5?) to complete and I couldn't be happier! I went from virgin black, to various shades of blonde (to lighten for my end color), then to a steely silvery blue. I LOVEEEEEE IT! Throughout the process my hair maintained its integrity, is softer than what it was before I went in, and after years of not doing anything at all I've regained an appreciation for my hair again. After each session Carlina styled my hair and explained how to care for it to prevent it from breaking and fading. While her work is impeccable I think the best thing about Carlina is her honesty. She was upfront about the status of my hair and how much time it would take to do what I wanted to do while keeping it healthy. Other places may just sit you down and fry you up which is kind of scary especially if you don't know how much your hair can tolerate. Her prices are extremely reasonable, I overheard her prom updo quotes and realistically for the quality of work she provides her rate is a steal. I'm an idiot when it comes to hair. I don't know anything about keeping hair healthy or about styling. When I wanted to dye my hair for the first time, I wasn't going to trust myself with using products bought at the local store. A good friend told me about this place so I decided to jump in and give it a try. I walked in unannounced, and asked about a consultation for dying my hair. I was sat down and told not only about the process of what would be done, but also what I'll need to do to keep my hair healthy after the bleaching and before. That surprised me! Usually people just try to sell me things, but I was being taught and treated like a valued customer! I tried to haggle with the price for fun, I was given a quick playful thwack to my head with a clear verbal message that followed " You don't haggle for your hair!" The way it was said was more than just fun banter, that this wasn't just a job, she truly has pride in her work. At that moment I knew this was the place for me. As I got my hair bleached and colored over the next week, it wasn't just a sit down and get it done experience. I was asked about shade preferences, what kind of style I'm going for, and how I take care of my hair. I was told about pros and cons of every decision I had to make as well as taught how to treat my hair better. After the whole experience at this salon, I have to say I'm still an idiot when it comes to hair, but not as dumb as I was. When we came in and asked questions about having our hair worked on, we were pleasantly surprised. I have visited this place a few times for root touch up and styling only because they always made sure they don't handle the hair in any rough way! I have always adjusted to the fact that the services have been way too slow and time consuming! But the few times I had went for partial highlights, never had I felt that I got the color I requested! Last few times I did not bother to give review to the owner and always went with what was done ! But this time ( I went this June 29th 2019 n then 30th again to fix) I clearly specified with pictures on what color I wanted before I went and still they did their own color! My friend and I went to many different salons that offered balayage around Fremont, but Carlina was the only one that gave us a consultation and a rundown of the whole process. She really took the time to describe everything and, as newbies to salons, we had this collective sigh of relief because we knew from then on that we were in good hands. Carlina is: - A Perfectionist: Would rather take some time to make you satisfied with the outcome, instead of damaging your hair in one session for the money. Some stylists offer balayage where they bleach and dye it at once... No, thanks. You cannot have what you want immediately without sacrificing the health of your hair. Ours took 4 weeks to complete (3 Mondays for bleaching and the last for dyeing), but it was completely worth it! If you don't like something, tell her! She's a very flexible person and can turn things around as you like them in a heartbeat-- if you let her know. - A Caring Person: Gives broke college students, like my friend and I, a break. We were able to get some price cuts on the full price of our balayage and styling products, but do not expect her to be so nice to everyone, though. In between the bleaching sessions we had, she gave us face masks and a haircare package (for free!) so that our hair could repair itself for another. Carlina also taught us some tips and tricks on how to curl our hair and she had us bring our curling iron to use for demonstrations. - Very Methodical: She takes her beauty classes to keep up with the trendiest stuff out right now and can explain to you how they work if you ask. We brought two pictures that served as a reference and she was able to come up with a plan to get our hair as close to what we envisioned. Worked great and we are really happy! Yeah, sure, there might not be a lot of reviews on Yelp for this salon but it will continue to gather more positivity since their service is excellent! The only downside is that their schedule is really tight so you have to call them to set up an appointment. With only two (?) people on deck, there is not much they can do with a packed day with the addition of walk-ins that want to be taken care of.
